Chapter 387: North-South Negotiations

  Chapter 377: North-South Negotiations

America, the great battle that decided the fate of the governments of the North and the South, ended in a lose-lose situation.

Tactically, the Southern government was victorious, they paid fewer casualties; strategically, the Northern government was victorious.

If there was no intervention from outside forces, then the Northern government could then slowly gain the upper hand by virtue of its superiority in manpower and industry.

Unfortunately, this was not possible. This civil war, from the very beginning, was fought under the intervention of the European powers.

With the presence of numerous milksops, the industrial superiority of the northern government was not utilized at all. In the age of the great voyages, there was a well-developed sea trade between Europe and America. No matter how hard the capitalists of the North tried to produce, they were no match for the European continent.

Moreover, the longer the war lasted, the more debt the southern government owed, the more the governments could not let go.

The power of the butterfly effect was powerful, and now the southern government had not only issued cotton bonds, but also owed huge loans to various countries, and the three major debtor countries of Britain, France and Austria had been kidnapped.

It is worth mentioning that a large part of the war funding of the northern government, also borrowed from the three countries. No matter which side of the North or South is finished, the three major debtors will lose a lot of money.

Eat the top and eat the bottom, if not for the financial sector of the three countries to join together to make things happen, this war would not have come to this point.

President Lincoln said helplessly, “The fight can’t go on, negotiate with the southern government as soon as possible!”

It really can’t be fought anymore, the war has gone on until now, the northern government is already exhausted. If it continues to wear out, when they have dragged the Southern government to death, they are almost done.

Surrounded by packs of wolves, if they really tossed themselves to their deaths in order to defeat the South, they would become the meat on the edge of other people’s mouths.

The capitalists who supported Lincoln didn’t want to play America to death yet, it wasn’t in their interest. We are all adults very realistic, since it is doomed to not succeed, it is better to stop in time.

Either solve the problem while the eyes of the powers are focused on Europe now, or once the countries look back, things will not be so easy.

Secretary of State Safar thought for a moment and said, “Mr. President, would it be too soon? We have a lot of work left to do, and public opinion building is still in progress.”

Lincoln took out a telegram he had just received for ransom, “It’s too late, here’s the latest intelligence from Europe, take a look at it!

Those losers are even more useless than we thought. Let alone subverting the regime, they haven’t even started a new wave of revolution.”

Safar took a first glance and didn’t say anything. Judging from this intelligence, the performance of the revolutionaries was still up to the passing line, only that it was still far from Lincoln’s expectations.

Even the Hungarian Independence Organization, which had collapsed at the touch of a button, had kept the Vienna government busy for months. Other revolutionary groups were not far behind, buying the federal government valuable time.

Only in Lincoln’s mind, those months were too short, so short that he didn’t even have the desire to continue the war.

After fighting for so long, he had come to understand the strength of the Confederate government so well that it would have been difficult to win without years of work.

Obviously, it was impossible. Once the European countries came back to their senses, not to mention defeating the South, it was possible that the remaining areas controlled by the federal government would be subject to prying eyes.

Lincoln had expected the Revolutionary Party to set off a new wave of revolutions, stirring up the European continent, so that the countries have no time to worry about the American Civil War, thus creating an opportunity for the unification of the United States.

Now the uprising started by the Hungarian Independence Organization had failed; the independence movement led by the Irish Independence Organization had been miserably suppressed by the government in London; and the French Revolutionary Party was still in the midst of the struggle for a free France, though they were not good at fighting and were in the midst of a war of words with the government in Paris.

The only one that has accomplished its mission is the Spanish Revolutionary Party, which is still fighting with the government and won’t be over anytime soon.

Yet Spain is the weakest of the interventionist coalitions, and as soon as the Big Three decide to intervene by force, they will follow suit.

The Italian Revolutionary Organization is also considered to be fruitful, at least Gabori has occupied half of Sicily and is working towards capturing the whole island.

Unfortunately this was not what the US needed, what they wanted was for the Italians to start an uprising in Sardinia and Lombardy Venetia to hold back the energies of France and Austria.

Obviously, the Italian revolutionaries were not stupid enough to go for the jugular. After the success of the uprising in Gabori, everyone turned around to support the Sicilian revolution.

At this rate, in at most half a year’s time Britain, France and Austria can all solve their internal problems. By then the federal government that set off this chaos will certainly not have any good fruit to eat.

Lincoln does not think that countries will not know the role they play, politics often do not need evidence, only analyze the pros and cons is enough.

By compromising now, the federal government could still have a favorable position in the negotiations. If it dragged on, when the States had the energy to retaliate, the situation would be completely different.

There was no need to even think about it to know who the European countries would support. Wouldn’t it be worse for the federal government if they let the South swallow a few more states?

There can be multiple free states that are now occupied by the Southern government, and those need to be reclaimed. If he can’t do that, the money men behind the scenes won’t forgive him.

It’s not just the Northern government that can’t hold out, the Southern government can’t stand it either. The number of casualties between the North and the South now far exceeds that of the same period in history, and the cost of military expenditure is even more astronomical.

Early in the General Assembly before the outbreak of the war, the southern government to the northern government proposed peace talks, but Lincoln and others put the last hope in the General Assembly war, delayed to give a reply.

It was not until now that everyone had to admit that with the European powers as their nursemaids, they were fighting for human lives.

The population of the northern government was to be larger, but the population of the southern government was also quite large. Together with the fact that the southern army was more powerful in fighting, the difference in strength between the two sides was not great.

This is the aftermath of the butterfly effect, if there was no intervention from the countries before the outbreak of the civil war, the southern government would not have been able to attract so many states to participate.

Politics has always been the southern government’s short board, otherwise as long as the anti-war flag is raised, many of the Confederate states will choose neutrality, the Lincoln government, even if it wants to use force, the public will not support.

Historically, most U.S. states were initially neutral, and many Americans believed that Southern independence was legal and opposed the use of force to resolve the issue.

It wasn’t until the first shots were fired by the Southern government that these people shifted their stance and sided with the Northern government.

Reality was harsh, and the war, which lasted for several years, awakened many people to the political level of the Southern government.

While the European countries were napping, the North and South opened secret negotiations.

Don’t spray it, it was posted without finishing the code, purely by accident
