Chapter 269 – Ranchi realizes that Zestila seems to worship Lamprey
Walking on the streets of Helm’s South District, Ranchi and Zestila looked like passers-by passing through the canvas of a complicated city-state.

The sights around the two of them passed by like water, colorful road signs, bustling popular stores, huge billboards for all kinds of exotic goods, and the people of Helome who were busy enjoying their weekend.

Despite this hustle and bustle around them, the two men’s pace and words were exceptionally leisurely and slow.

“Is the teacher’s teacher …… the woman you said you couldn’t marry?”

Zestila raised her head to look at Ranchi beside her and asked as if she had figured something out.

Although it wasn’t good to talk about her teacher’s teacher like that, but after all, these were Ranchi’s original words, so she just repeated them.

Staying home day after day and being self-absorbed did seem dangerous.

Zestila didn’t want to turn into a moldy old woman anyway, that would be another step away from her idol, Talia.

“That’s her, she has a cold face every day, like everyone else owes her money.”

Ranchi thought of Talia’s state when she was with herself, and then complained as she spread her hands helplessly.

“Yeah.”

Zestila slowly raised her hands and rubbed her cheeks, then tried hard to squeeze out a stiff smile.

She needed to learn to smile and not turn into that demonic antagonist Ranch had been talking about.

A truly great demon would confuse others with a subdued smile.

“…… Zestila, you’re practicing your smile?”

Ranchi looked at Zestila and asked with slight uncertainty.

“Yes.”

Zestila wasn’t shy about admitting her purpose.

She had always been matter-of-fact and had sensed that putting on a proper smile was a difficult task.

“Take your time, this isn’t hard to learn.”

Ranch said in relief.

Zestila was very young and not good at smiling there was still plenty of time to slowly learn and change herself.

She could also be introduced to a professional acting teacher if she found it difficult.

When it comes to women’s acting, it’s Hubert Leanne who is the most professional, every time no matter what kind of script she can get into the scene in a second to accompany her performance.

Big Love Poet’s acting is actually okay, but sometimes it’s too pompous, and sometimes she can be a little bit intentionally boyish, giving off an androgynous vibe.

It would be nice to have Huberian teach Zestila when she and Huberian meet again in the Northern Continent.

Perhaps Huberian could also learn some tips from Zestila on how half-demons awaken their natural magic.

“Can you perceive far with your gift magic?”

Ranch continued to ask her about talent magic.

“It’s not particularly far, probably a dozen meters at most.”

Zestila shook her head.

“……”

Ranch sniffed and held his chin in slight contemplation.

Which meant that the one who was paying attention to them had been much closer to them, earlier, than he had thought?

Even so, Ranchi and Boss Cat still didn’t half realize it.

It was a good thing it wasn’t likely to be a bad guy, or it would be hard not to be hostile to both him and Zestila.

It was also hard to know who’s interest he or Zestila had piqued.

During Ranch’s brief moment of silence.

“By the way, to speak of kindness and malice, I also met someone at school who didn’t mean me any harm.”

Zestila seemed to think of something because of the inexplicable attention she had gotten earlier.

“Hm?”

Ranch raised an eyebrow in interest. Generally speaking, people with such great loving qualities would be quite compatible with him.

“Do you remember that book you read, the Chronicles of the Holy War?”

Zestila had talked to Ranch about the book that day on the train to Helome.

“Remember.”

Ranch nodded; he knew it was distributed by the Imperial Royal Academy of Magic Press.

“The author of that book, Theodore Arendelle, is an associate professor of history at the Royal Academy of Magic in Protoss, and I took a history course for credit, and by accident it was he who taught it. His class also happens to be the only one available this semester, and sometimes he leaves the school to go on expeditions to ancient sites.”

Zestila and Ranch said.

“So.”

History was arguably one of the few theoretical things Zestila didn’t hate.

And while history itself was quite important in both Shadow World raiding and review compendiums, in the Southern Continent, where the school system and intelligence-sharing and management organizations were very mature, historians had a privileged position and ease of research in the magical towers and societies.

To be able to produce results alone in the North Continent, Sidor is a rather powerful historian.

After reading his work, Ranch was even more convinced of this.

“Can I follow you to hear his history class next week?”

Ranch asked.

If he had the chance, he would like to talk to the historian of the Northern Continent about some of the issues related to the Holy War.

After all, there were many doubts about the cause and end of that Holy War, and Ranch had less information on hand that should be unknown to any historian.

“No problem, Associate Professor Sidor welcomes students to go to him after class to answer questions.”

Zestila nodded, and after a pause.
“Going by what you said earlier, what would be the result if I were to specialize towards range?”

She asked Ranch about having a possible final growth completion form for her natural magic.

“It would turn into the highest level of enemy solving skill, being able to essentially determine the enemy’s location, status, and motivation for attack and escape, among other things.”

Ranchi had known that Zestila’s talent was far less accurate and specific than Talia’s in terms of judging information, but it was of the ranged type and could be used to proactively tend to evil, which was why Ranchi had been able to rest assured that she would be left alone in the Royal Academy of Magic in Protoss.

She was Ranchi’s rather cherished chief student, or rather she was the first Demon who claimed Ranchi as her teacher, and it was natural for Ranchi to take care of her as well.

“Even though it is a scrying and intelligence-type skill, it will nonetheless give you the capital to occupy an absolutely dominant position in any scenario of combat.”

Ranchi added.

The strongest solving ability paired with Zestila’s extreme force growth space was able to restrain a whole lot of fancy things.

Even the types of illusions that Dragon Demons were originally very bad at dealing with, she was able to kamikaze them with this talent.

“Pretty good.”

Zestila nodded.

The implication didn’t seem too happy with this.

“What kind do you want?”

Ranch inquired curiously.

It suited her, but if she didn’t want it, there was no point.

Zestila hesitated slightly, then spoke:
“Is it possible to specialize towards mental interference, allowing me to scale the target’s fear or goodwill towards me?”

“……?”

Ranch froze at his words.

The ability sounded like it might be a little familiar.

Why is it that the ability you like is Talia’s, but the one you want is the Great Love Poet’s?

“I think Talia is like that, she would be better at attacking the heart compared to force, so I want to learn the strongest heart technique.”

Zestila had noticed Ranch’s state and continued to explain for him.
