Chapter 249 – Ranchi’s work went exceptionally well

The winter sun was gradually rising, and the light in the courtyard of the lord’s mansion had changed from oblique to more vertical, causing the entire room to be bathed in a warmth and geniality.

The slow conversation between Zestila and Ranchi and the sound of pages turning, and the lilting sound of leaves outside the window.

Whenever Rancic mentioned a problem, Zestila would listen intently and then share her insights with him.

Though Ranch had a difficult time learning the actual techniques of magic.

But Zestila taught with great patience and would not let that make Ranchi feel clumsy.

She didn’t think too much about magic phasing though.

Her own best skill was fire magic, so she taught Ranchi about casting fire magic.

For Ranch, the phasing of elemental types of magic was greater for light than for fire than for any other element, and the phasing of actual fire magic wasn’t really much better.

The end result was that more than two hours had passed, and Ranchi’s progress in learning first-order fireball magic had managed to advance about a tenth of a percent thanks to Zestila’s efforts.

This kind of progress was already quite good for the average first rank magic beginner.

But Zestila didn’t realize that Ranchi was Fourth Order.

As the town clock struck lazily and reached their ears, Zestila realized that the clock in the room was also pointing to twelve o’clock at the moment.

Without realizing it nearly three hours had passed in this class.

“You may go.”

Zestila said.

She figured it was about time, and that this teacher should be able to go and give her father a piece of her mind as well.

“Thank you, but with my level of magic, learning the most basic first-order fireball spell will probably only help people light their cigarettes, wasting your precious time for nothing.”

Ranch sighed and smiled.

This was the relentless truth that his housemaid had told him back then, and now he was sure of it himself.

“Doesn’t the magic of using your fingers to help someone light a cigarette work?”

Zestila gave him a look.

The sea was so windy and Viscount Francis was used to smoking, so it might indeed be convenient to have this magic to help him light his cigarettes.

Someone like her, who was bad at controlling her magic, instead could not manage to use miniature magic so delicately.

When she was a child, she had burned a servant in her house because she couldn’t control her magic.

It was also after that that many of the servants in the house would look at her with awe.

“Like this.”

Ranchi nodded thoughtfully.

“Then, Ms. Zestila, I’ll see you tomorrow.”

Ranch scooted his chair back into place and turned back with a smile as he walked to the door of Zestila’s room.

At the desk, Zestila was silent for a moment, then gave a small nod.

She wasn’t sure what the point was of wasting her morning with this “tutor”.

But without realizing it, she had already talked to him a lot.

……

On the second floor of the lord’s mansion, Rancic had just walked out of Zestila’s room, and within a few steps he unexpectedly found himself in Viscount Francis’s line of sight.

Viscount Francis was standing in the hall on the second floor, gazing at himself with a complicated expression.

“Viscount Francis, not only did I fail to teach the young lady anything today, I instead delayed her teaching me magic for over an hour.”

Ranch owed Viscount Francis.

“No, no, no matter.”

Viscount Francis said with a relieved wave of his hand, then walked briskly over to Rancic’s side

“You just need to keep the communication going with her, I’m glad to see that she’s willing to spend time with people, it doesn’t matter if she’s in class or not, just think of it as her friend talking with her.”

Francis’s vicissitudes of the eyes could not hide the feeling of relief in his heart.

He had originally thought that Zestila would continue to close herself off even more resolutely for the rest of her life, but he hadn’t expected that someone would finally be able to open her heart a little, even if it was just a little. This young man who came across the sea from the southern continent is indeed a good person who is pure, true and kind.

If he wasn’t sincere, he definitely wouldn’t have been able to gain Zestila’s approval.

“Alright, I’ll do my best to help her so that she can complete the Proteus Royal Magic Academy’s preparatory exit exams and then move up to the first year without any problems.”

Ranchi assured the Viscount.

“Then I’ll leave it to you, Mr. Lodge.”

Viscount Francis was sincerely grateful.

He had actually asked for nothing more.

It was still too difficult to expect Zestila to accept teaching, and keeping the status quo satisfied him immensely.

……

In Zestila’s room, after Ranch left, she was still sitting at the table silently looking at her book.

Just like in the morning, she was alone again.

Only because it was midday, the furniture began to look brighter in the light, but it wasn’t obtrusive, instead adding a soft layering to the whole.

After the maid of the house had brought her lunch to the door and put it away, she stood up as well, ready to bring it in.

Until it was time to walk through her room.

It was only then that she noticed a textbook on the genealogy of magic from the Royal Academy of Magic in Protoss sitting on the low cupboard next to the chair where Ranch had been sitting.

“……”

She silently shifted the direction of her walk a little.

The guy forgot to take the book away.

Zestila remembered that he seemed to be writing something in this book to begin with.

It must have been just some boring knowledge too.

She thought as she casually flipped through it.

It was mediocre, and it was really just annotations.

What surprised her slightly, though, was that this teacher from the southern continent used very little of the Protoss Empire’s script, even with translation magic.

He had written clear and nice demonic magic text in more places.

The Protoss Empire did not prohibit the use of demonic magic text, as the Imperial Capital side was already using demonic heritage in large numbers.

Zestila’s bookshelf was even filled with books related to Demon Magic Text.

“I didn’t realize that there were people in the southern continent who knew this …… Is there a demon race over there as well?”

She muttered.

As far as she knew, there should be very few Demon Race stragglers over in the Southern Continent, and humans who were good at Demon Magic Text were even rarer.

Unlike the Demon Magic Script that was popularly used on the Protoss side, compared to the extreme modification of human facilitation, his script appeared to be more respectful of the achievements of the Demon Race’s sages, and fused with human wisdom, very much in the style of the ancient times.

Outside the window, the wind blew gently, bringing a hint of natural sounds – birdsong from the distance, and the sound of leaves gently rubbing together.

Unconsciously Zestila had followed the handwriting left by Ranch and finished the first few pages.

Turning further, there was no more of his handwriting.

“……”

Zestila closed the book and looked out the door.

It had been kind of tempting to walk out with the book and give it back to Ranch.

But thought about it.

The guy should be here again tomorrow.

In this brighter room, Zestila finally put down her book and opened the heavy door to her room.
