237. Chapter 236 – Ranchi’s Racial Compatibility

Chapter 236 – Ranchi’s Racial Compatibility

In the winter of December, the clock struck three in the afternoon at the Ichorite Academy.

Frey’s dormitory had rather the feel of a detective’s office.

A few newspaper clippings and old maps of cases he had solved hung on the dark brown walls, the desk was cluttered with a number of papers and note pads, and there was a microscope, a handful of alchemy reagent canisters, and open geography magazines on the side of the desk.

On one side of the desk, between the tiers of floor-to-ceiling tripods, were newspapers, manuscripts, magnifying glasses, fingerprint powder, and magical props of unknown use.

Two leather sofas rest beside the fireplace for visitors or Frey himself.

Amidst the clanging echoes of this ancient clock tower, both Ranch and Frey looked out the window.

Thanks to the prestige that had been built up in the student council over the past few months, Frey’s little-known detective agency was now occasionally receiving commissions.

However, Frey’s way of doing things was very different from that of ordinary detectives, and hiring him would involve the risk of things not going as planned, and the price was directly proportional to his ability, so no one would easily ask for Frey’s help unless it was absolutely necessary.

Now after the vacation, the detective agency is completely closed.

There were newspapers and two cups of black tea on the low table in front of Frey.

But this was not a meeting of affairs, but a temporary farewell to Ranch.

The two of them had spent a lot of time together since Hubertarian had taken up residence at the Cat Boss’s restaurant, and Ranch had been more than just Frey’s legal counselor, sometimes Frey’s right-hand man in his detective work.

“Ranch, your rank is forty-six yet.”

Frey said as he held up a dark gray crystal and glanced at Ranch through the light on it.

“So.”

Rancic thought it made sense; he hadn’t felt like he’d just gotten to the fourth rank after the last Shadow World, and he wasn’t particularly far from the fifth rank, when he’d risen from the third to the fourth.

“Frey how much are you?”

“Fifty-four.”

Frey replied.

Over the past few months, borrowing this theory of grades that Ranch had first unintentionally brought up in casual conversation, the [Graded Appraisal Technique] jointly developed by the Alchemy Institute and the Magic Engineering Institute of the Ichorite Academy was now being rapidly circulated in the Southern Continent.

As its own construction in magic is very simple, more just a set of theory, in measuring, defining and calculating the conversion value spent some effort, circulated very convenient, spell version, magic card version, magic props version of the [Ranking Appraisal Technique] have already been, and even through the Shadow World Challenger’s interactions between the north continent side of the spread.

The next few months might see an explosion of popularity.

The research team pointed out in their paper that the person who first proposed this doctrine was Ranch Wilford. If this research was able to achieve a modest success this year and next, Ranch might be able to gain a modest academic reputation even if he wasn’t involved at all.

Though this identification spell wouldn’t work on a strong person in an unusual state.

Strong people usually concealed themselves, like how Dean Loren looked like a first or even a zero rank, but he was actually an eighth rank.

“However, from what I’ve poked around in the Alchemy Academy, in order to assist in the research, the development process measured Dean Loren’s rank at eighty-seven.”

“No wonder it’s so perversely strong.”

At Ranch and Frey’s level, it might be possible to beat them across a few levels by relying on talent gaps, special mechanisms, or restraining relationships, but at the end of the sixth rank, that is, starting at level sixty-nine, after measuring that each level would have a very large growth, the gap in the attributes brought about by the level became more and more difficult to compensate for through other factors.

The ninth rank powerhouses in the north and south continents of this world combined were only in the single digits, and it wasn’t for no reason that Loren could be called the supreme guardian of the Houghton Kingdom.

The two of them chatted idly.

Now that the campus was much cooler after the vacation, and without the affairs of the student union, they would surprisingly feel like they had nothing to do after retirement.

“What a pity that I can’t go to the Northern Continent with you guys this time.”

Frey sighed as he leaned back on the couch. I heard that the underground casinos in the Protoss Empire were quite impressive.

He would be watched by Dean Sphinx for the next three months, and wouldn’t be able to escape the royal capital, Ichorite, at all.

Or if he had the ability to escape Ichorite under Dean Sphinoth, then the cultivation would be considered in place.

“Frey, we may be late coming back from this trip, if you have a chance to hit the Shadow World alone once over the holidays, don’t wait for us, we may not be back until next semester.”

Ranch looked at the calendar and thought about it, and said to Frey assuredly.

It was now the middle of December, and there was a chance they wouldn’t be back until next April or May.

Frey had also reached Silver rank straight away, and could participate in the Real Shadow World challenge solo even without a group.

For a numerical monster like Frey, his own rank was especially important, and each rank up would bring a qualitative change in his combat power.

The first Blood Moon Bad World node had a Blood Baron appearing in it, while the second node had a Blood Viscount or even a Blood Count appearing in it, so the next Blood Moon Bad World’s Shadow World would most likely have a Blood Marquis.

The three of them wouldn’t quite be able to go on a challenge together even if they were cooled down, each of them needed to become as strong as possible first before they could do so.

Sometimes the intensity gap was too large, and no amount of strategy could help, and even if they went through the mechanics smoothly they would still be destroyed by the group just the same.

“No problem, but you and Huberian need to pay a little attention to the Bishop War of the Church of the Resurrection if you’re heading north these days, I heard that the route of the Sublime Bishop being hunted by the Bishop of Destruction is also gradually shifting to the north.”

Frey warned as he gazed sideways at the international column on the front page of the newspaper on his desktop.

Those were two moving masses of heavenly calamity, not the kind of fury a mortal body could withstand.

“Don’t worry, Huberian and I will set off south first, creating the illusion that we’re going south, then become disguised as brand-new identities on the road before heading over north, where no one will recognize us then.”

Ranch’s [Change Art: Demon] was a technology crystallized from the experimental grounds of the ancient Horning Empire that had undergone a final refinement and was written out of human magical text, while [Change Art: Human] was researched in reverse by demons of that era, based on [Change Art: Demon] as a blueprint, both of which were able to bypass most of the disguise-detecting spells of the current era.

Talia had already helped Ranch and Huberian rewrite the directional change card that could directly disguise itself as a similar human without being recognized.

“This spell, though, and more importantly, is more convenient in the Northern Continent.”

In the Protoss Empire, where they would land first, the human race was also the identity least likely to be involved in racial disputes.

“Hmm.”

Frey nodded, having heard Ranch speak of the culture of the Northern Continent, as Loren had called it.
“But there is one thing …… I can probably be sure of.”

“What?”

“If there are people in the North Continent who have returned and awakened their wolf bloodline like me, it shouldn’t be harmful to you.”

“Why?”

This time even Ranchi didn’t quite understand the reason for the conclusion Frey gave.

“It’s hard to explain, just as the Bloods are born to feel fear of you, the Wolves accordingly are probably born to feel close to you.”

Fray wrapped his arms around himself, slightly confused as he described his gut feeling.

“That’s fine, if I ever come across a Wolf Clan that’s facing a difficult situation, I’ll try to try to help them out as a friend first.”

Ranch glanced at the clock and stood up, grabbing his coat from the doorway and draping it over him, waving goodbye.

It was about time.

Go to the Cat Boss’s restaurant and find Hubert Leanne, and you’re ready to go.
