Chapter 5: Encounters

Chapter 5 Encounter

The snake-bodied man had an extraordinary sense of smell, and could sniff out smells five kilometers away, although Richard and the others were carrying things to disrupt their own scent, still revealing traces.

In less than half an hour, the four snake-bodied human professionals had slowly approached, not very far from them.

Walking in the primitive forest, Richard and the others could not speed up, their speed was relatively slow.

After their whereabouts were exposed, Soros made a snap decision and decided to take the initiative to kill the snake-bodied people and solve this trouble.

At his command, the crowd was immediately on high alert.

While encountering an enemy for the first time, Richard’s heart was very calm. He didn’t feel scared at this moment, instead, he had a feeling of excitement.

The Iron Horned Horse herd had not yet been tamed and was not able to cooperate with Richard and the others in battle, instead, they might take advantage of the chaos to escape.

Soros led the crowd to first tie the four hooves of the Iron Horned Horses, and tied the reins to a big thick tree.

Then in a scattered formation, they rushed towards the snake-bodied people without any hesitation.

In the six years since he came to this world, Richard had been careful on a daily basis for fear of revealing unusual behavior and being suspected of demonic possession and going to the Inquisition’s stake.

On just his third day of traveling through, he had seen a burning living man at Castle Black River.

In a world where religion runs rampant and transcendent powers exist, any unusual behavior can lead to murder. In order not to go to the stake, Richard had to be careful not to reveal his identity or cause trouble.

Fortunately for Richard, his mother was already very sick when he crossed over, Black River Fort was facing a war, and his father was too busy with his military duties to care about his family.

After being possessed by a demon and experiencing such a big change, his behavior and habits were more introverted, and some changes in his personality could be justified.

Even so, Richard was brought to the church of the Morning Glory Church several times, and only after the high-ranking priests confirmed that there was no problem, did he gain the trust of his father William.

A year after arriving in this world, his mother died of illness, and a few months later his father William married his third wife, Ola Masar.

Over the next few years the Harland family welcomed three new members, William’s fatherly love shifted more to the little one, and his stepmother, Mrs. Ola, didn’t care much about the Richards.

In this way Richard quietly integrated into the otherworld and showed talent over the next few years, getting the Harland family to focus on training him to enter the Knight Academy.

Living in a depressing environment for a long time changed Richard’s character, making the optimistic and cheerful man of his previous life somewhat cold-blooded. Became cautious and silent.

Among the seven people of Richard, Soros, Roland are all experienced middle-ranked professionals, and are also the tip of the loose team.

Soros was good at using bows and arrows and had a very good enchanted bow and arrow in his hands.

This bow and arrow was already a sixth-ranked enchanted weapon, the bowstring material came from the dragon tendons of the high-ranked magical beast Bipedal Flying Dragon, and the bow body was also melted with the fourth-ranked mineral Zing Copper, with a price of more than 5,000 gold coins, and it was the favorite weapon of the first-generation Baron Dak.

After Soros advanced to middle-ranked professional, the previous generation of Baron Darke passed this enchanted bow and arrow to him, and it was said that because of the ownership of this enchanted bow and arrow, the Darke family also had a lot of conflicts.

The relationship between Soros and this generation of Baron Darke also became even worse.

Soros was not known for his strength amongst the professionals, his physical strength was more prominent instead. Even so according to Richard’s estimation, Soros’s strength is still more than fourteen points, and he can move a one-ton weight of goods.

Soros’ arms exerted force, opened his bow, and the arrow burst out with a cracking sound, instantly piercing through the scale armor of the snake-bodied man, ferociously penetrating through the snake-bodied man’s abdomen, and nailing a third-order snake-bodied man to the thick tree trunk.

Soros was about to shoot a second arrow when the snake-bodied man jumped ahead, opened his mouth, and with a roll on his tongue, shot out three missiles.

The snake-bodied man was very smart and didn’t attack the strongest Soros and Roland, the three missiles traced an arc and instead aimed at Richard, Hayden and Morgan.

The three hadn’t become professionals yet, and they didn’t have any fine enchanted weapons on them to defend themselves.

Once they were hit by the Venom Missiles, they would be severely poisoned or lose their lives. Seeing the three Richards in danger, Soros immediately inserted the ends of his bow into the ground, raised his arm shield, his hand blossomed with light, and transferred his fighting qi to the top of the shield, and without thinking, he protected his second son, Morgan, first.

Richard’s reaction was also fast, he opened his bow and was about to aim.

Seeing a Venom Missile coming towards him from a distance, he immediately turned around. Estimating the amount of advance, he shot the arrow towards the Venom Missile.

Richard’s basic archery skill was already at the third rank.

A third-order basic archery skill could easily hit the bull’s-eye from a hundred meters away.

In terms of archery accuracy alone, Richard was only slightly worse than Soros.

Even professionals such as Roland and Powell were not as accurate as Richard’s shooting.

After shooting this arrow, Richard didn’t care if he hit the Venom Missile or not, and immediately turned around and hid behind a large tree.

If he was shooting at a fixed target, Richard had a nine out of ten chance, but if he was shooting at a fast moving target, Richard’s success rate was less than 30%.

The arrow flew by the side of the venom missile, seeing that the venom missile was about to hit the big tree, Roland leaped forward, immediately spanning a distance of five or six meters, the red light of the big sword in his palm flashed, accurately hitting the venom missile.

Two of the venom missiles were stopped, and the last one hit hard on Powell’s shield. In order to protect his nephew Hayden, Powell blocked in front and used his arm shield to catch a Venom Missile.

Powell was only a second-ranked professional, his strength and reaction were far inferior to Soros and Roland, plus he had been retired for a few years, his physical condition was only slightly stronger than Richard.

His strength, according to Richard’s estimation, did not exceed eight points at most.

He was instantly knocked back by this force and crashed into Hayden, and the two of them rolled on the ground a few times in a sorry state.

Seeing the venom splashing around coming towards the two, Kent threw out the leather tent in his backpack, blocking the splashing venom and protecting the two.

The two sides were engaged for a very short period of time, just a few seconds to start a short fight.

Soros was too late to use his bow and arrows, and raised his lance to stab at the serpent-bodied man, and Roland stopped the other serpent-bodied man with his heavy sword in hand.

Powell and Hayden scrambled to their feet and formed a small foxhole formation with Kent, Morgan, and Richard. Surrounding the last snake-bodied man.

The snake-bodied men had a lot of strength, average speed, and a four or five meter long tail that gave them very good balance.

This species had decent physical strength, as well as scale armor defense, making them natural heavy infantry.

In orc armies, serpent-bodied professionals often act as guards for commanders and are responsible for attacking in the event of a fierce battle.

In close combat, a serpentling is a match for a mid-ranked professional.

Today, if it was Soros alone, relying on the enchanted bow in his hand and his speed which was much faster than that of the Snake Men, even a small team of Snake Men would not be a match for him.

Using kite-flying tactics, Soros would be able to kill all the enemies. It wasn’t too difficult for him.

However, there were still Richard, Morgan and others in the team, and in a sudden encounter, they were the equivalent of a liability and trouble, which in turn dragged Soros down into a melee battle that he wasn’t very good at.

Soros was already a fifth-ranked warrior, and despite not being good at attacking, he was still comfortable against a serpentine man, and still had a good chance of winning.

Roland, who was highly skilled with the sword and had also learned several fighting skills from the Wild Lion Legion, clearly had a better chance of winning.

Although Richard’s team was large in number, it lacked the power to make a final decision, so it was a bit troublesome in the battle with the snake man.
