Chapter 624 – Sevia’s Plea

Chapter 624 – Sevia’s Plea
The white waves lapped against the shore in bursts, and flocks of seagulls foraged between the sky and the sea.

It was an all-too-usual morning in Richland Harbor.

A passenger ship slowly sailed into the harbor and docked steadily at the pier under the tugboat’s tow.

Passenger ships are a recent phenomenon, as the number of people traveling between the Northwest Bay and the major trading points has increased dramatically, the original mode of transportation by cargo ships is gradually unable to meet the demand, after all, cargo ships are mainly used for transporting goods, leaving little room for people, and a small amount of space makes for poor accommodations.

So one after another, some shipping companies introduced passenger ships dedicated to carrying passengers.

Considering that the average passenger does not have the sailor’s hands, the way to get on and off the ship from the original simple springboard improved into a gangway with guardrails on both sides.

A tall and beautiful woman stepped onto the gangway, her waist-length emerald green hair swaying gently behind her as she walked.

“Sevia Asitini?”

Not far ahead, a certain woman with chestnut colored hair caught her attention and surprise.

“Why are you here?”

Lardy Sertia approached her and questioned the female caster.

Sevia offered her a faint smile.

“I’ve been waiting for you at the docks every day for the last few years, and you said you’d be back this this time of year.”

But the expression on Sevia’s face quickly shifted to one of puzzlement.

“Where is your Count?”

“What my earl?”

Lardy’s response startled Sevia; it was a tone tinged with a trifle of mortification, as if she had been touched on some sore spot.

And in Sevia’s impression, Lardy thought of a character who was as light as water and unperturbed by change.

There was definitely something going on when she came back alone, Sevia thought darkly.

“I mean …… where is Lord Greymane? Shouldn’t you be returning with his fleet?”

Lardy’s eyes dimmed, “Plans have changed, and Lord Graiman is staying in Crystal Glory for a while. And I had a bunch of official business to take care of, so I came back as planned.”

Sevia pursued, “What happened? Still need him to stay in Jingyao?”

Ladi skimmed her head, “Paul Greiman is now the son-in-law of the royal family! Hmph~”

The last “hmph” was faintly audible, but Sevia heard it.

“What …… what?”

Sevia Asitini was shocked!

“Count Greiman is married to the royal family? Lardy Sertia, can you let him get away with this?”

“How could I let him do this? What can I do about it?”

“My God! You’ve been so close to him all day ……”

Sevia got a little antsy, but she immediately realized that the dock area where people came and went was not the place to talk about such things.

“Come with me!”

She pulled Lardy along and made her way to the alchemy store not far from the dock area, a store run by casters who had fled from Horn Bay.

In a room in the backyard, Sevia began questioning Lardy.

“Lord Seretia, why is it that after all this time, you still haven’t taken down Earl Gladman?”

“What do you mean?”

Lardy asked rhetorically with a raised eyebrow and an unkind tone.

“Okay, okay! I’ll put it another way! Why haven’t you been taken down by Count Gleeman yet? He …… is a lord with a lot of power in his hands! And you’re so beautiful that the Count can stand it?”

“What take down or not take down? I solemnly repeat it to you! Paul Greiman is my lord, and I am a vassal loyal to him, nothing more!”

In the face of Sevia’s blabbering, Lardy took up a rare high-pitched door.

Seemingly feeling that she was being overly pushy, Sevia sighed and softened her attitude.

“Alas, Lord Sertia! Do you dare to beat your own breast and swear by sacred magic that you yourself do not have the slightest hint of an ulterior motive for Count Greymane?”

“I ……” Lardy was dumbfounded, a flush rising on her fair face. Sevia asked, “Which of the princesses of the royal family is Count Graiman to marry?”

“Catherine Rodney!”

“That princess? Oh, it can be difficult, with that princess’s status, the boost given to the Gladman family will be immeasurable.”

“I don’t need you to tell me.”

“Then what are you going to do in the future?”

“I’m going to apply for a transfer out of Lakewood and take a job as a principal …… teacher in one of the other towns as well – after all, I swore an oath of allegiance to him.”

The expression on Lardy’s face was indescribably sullen, “I’ve warned myself countless times that if I bonded with him, it would only bring him calamity, so just smile and watch him find a suitable partner to marry and have children with. But when this day really comes, it still feels a bit hard for me, so I’ll just retreat and find a place where I can’t see him and quietly serve Arda.”

“No!”

Sevia suddenly drew up her voice.

“Why not? It’s my own business!” Lardy was a little exasperated.

Sevia slowed down and said in a serious tone, “Lord Sertia, if it’s the way I think of it, since you’re so close to Earl Greiman, why don’t you make good use of that advantage?”

“Earl Gleiman is now already the most powerful lord in the Northwest Bay, and a lord who takes a tolerant attitude towards us spellcasters. Imagine if his first wife was a caster, it would prompt a further improvement in his view of casters. How much will this help our fellow casters improve their existence in the Northwest Bay?”

“I don’t want to be one of those evil witches who charm men!”

“How is a normal relationship between a man and a woman seductive? How is it evil?”

Laadi sneered back, “Is that so? You’re not bad looking, why don’t you try it yourself?”

“Ahem, you’re joking, I can’t compare my looks to yours. Anyway, I implore you, even if I don’t become his wife, to remain by his side, as his assistant and as a link between my fellow spellcasters and the ruler of this land.”

“Why?”

Sevia said with earnest words, “I know that you are a kind man. And as the most powerful spellcaster among us, and our natural leader, don’t you feel that you should have some sort of obligation to your compatriots for their situation? Even a little.”

“Count Graiman does not oppress spellcasters!”

“But he still has a hint of wariness; do you not recognize that? If you, who are the only link in the present, choose to banish yourself, God knows if his attitude will change at some point in the future.”

Lardy lapsed into silence, a torn look on her face.

The person in front of her moved and Lardy looked at Sevia in surprise.

The haughty witch had dropped to one knee and knelt down to her.

“Count Greiman needs someone by his side who can represent us, and that person can only be you, Lord Laddie Sertia.”

She bowed her head, her tone filled with anxiety, as if she was afraid that Lardy would utter a word of disapproval.

The green-haired witch looked at her compatriot, unable to say a word.

The two didn’t move a muscle, and time passed in a silence for who knows how long.

“Ugh!” Lardy bit her lip, “Fine, I’ll remain in Lakewood then.”

“You promise?”

Sevia held her head up, and it was then that Lardy realized that she had crystalline tears in the corners of her eyes.

Her body was suddenly bound as the other woman stood up and embraced her tightly.

“On behalf of my fellow spellcasters in general, I thank you a million times over, Lord Thothia. If there is anything you need to send us, please don’t hesitate to do so.”

Lardy’s tone returned to light, “Saying anything about dispatch or not, since we are all stranded, it is reasonable to help each other ……. By the way, what was the matter you were waiting for me at the pier for?”

“I had wanted to give you some advice ……”

“What suggestions?”

“Actually, I’ve already indicated it in my words just now.”

“Hmm?”

“It would be best for you …… and the Count to develop a more intimate relationship.”

“Don’t you give me an inch!”
