Chapter 619 Eaton’s New Deal
Chapter 619 – Eaton’s New Deal
When the envoy from the Duchy of Eton uttered the proclamation of their country’s recognition of the legitimate status of wizards, a silence fell over the golden hall.
This was very different from the heated discussion caused by King Rodney XVIII when he announced the news of the engagement just now.
It seemed that everyone was frozen.
In the midst of the silence, Paul quietly craned his head to where the Lords of the Northwest Bay were, and where Laddie Sertia and Victor stood as part of their entourage.
He noticed that Laadi was looking at the Duchy of Eton envoy with some fervor.
What was going through her mind? There was a hint of anxiety in Paul’s mind.
“That one is …… Miss Sertia, isn’t she?”
Catherine’s voice came from beside her, and she noticed Paul quietly turning his neck.
Following her fiancé’s line of sight, she saw a beautiful lady with long, silky green hair and a beautiful, serene face.
In particular, there was an indefinable aura about her that made the lady seem mysterious and ethereal.
Catherine recalled that this was the very same woman who had followed her fiancé when she first met him.
“Uh, yes.”
“Is she ……?”
“Ah, it’s my …… advisor on Corner Bay issues, plus she’s in charge of education in my part of the world, haha, took over the job from Erin.”
Paul answered his fiancée thus.
Haha! There is definitely something wrong!
The woman’s intuition told Catherine so.
It didn’t really take much intuition.
A male who had just turned eighteen, the age when he was filled with wonderful visions of the opposite sex, and who was a lord, above all else in his domain.
Such a person, accompanied by such a beautiful lady all day long, it would be abnormal if something didn’t happen, right?
As far as Catherine knew, the vast majority of the noble sons of Jingyao had come into contact with women before they reached adulthood, either with prostitutes on the streets of flowers or with the maids in their homes.
But Catherine’s heart was just diaphoretic for a moment, without too many ripples.
After all, in this era, this was nothing more than a rare occurrence, especially among the noble class.
“What a beautiful lady, Lord Gle-Man Burr!”
“Well …… ahem, it’s not bad, haha!”
It didn’t seem right to stare at another beautiful lady while guarding his fiancée’s face, and Paul pulled his eyes back.
At that moment, the silence in the hall was interrupted by Rodney XVIII.
“Honored guests!”
He looked at the envoy of the Duchy of Eton who had become the center of attention.
“Are you sure you are not joking?”
The envoy of the Duchy of Eton shook his head firmly.
“Your Majesty, I am not joking, but rather conveying the will of my Lord, Archduke Cabre, with immense seriousness.”
The envoy prelate said aloud:
“The evil Horned Bay Church lackeys have waged an unjustified war of aggression against our beautiful kingdom, burning our homes, looting and slaughtering our people.” “And at this time, the wizards …… perhaps we should call them spell casters, regardless of the previous worldly prejudice against them, bravely stood up and stood together with the righteous people of Eton, and together they crushed the attack of the church goons.”
“All up and down the Duchy of Eton, from the nobles to the commoners, thanked the spell casters for their dedication, and so, Archduke Cabre issued a decree.”
“In the land of Eton, spellcasters will enjoy the same power as ordinary people, and under his patronage, spellcasters will walk safely under the sun.”
“This is a reward for them and a thank you!”
The Duchy of Eton’s envoy’s generous speech allowed the crowd in the hall to figure out what was coming.
In fact, in the past few years, because of the sensational witch hunt movement in Horned Bay, wizards had come into reality as a legendary existence.
Those who used to firmly believe that witches and magic were made up had to revise their perceptions in droves.
But witches and magic are evil – that stereotype has remained in the minds of most, both in legend and in reality.
Some time had actually passed since the Duchy of Eaton had recognized the legal status of wizards, but in this era where long-distance communication could only be achieved by writing letters, Eaton’s new policy was currently only being circulated among the Horned Bay nations.
Some merchants who brought the news to other places would only be treated as exotic gossips whose authenticity was debatable.
Now that the envoy of the Duchy of Eton had solemnly confirmed this matter on an official level on such a solemn and serious occasion, it was nothing short of shocking!
“Blasphemy! This is blasphemy!”
Before King Aldo could say anything, the envoy from the Holy See jumped out and cursed at the envoy from the Duchy of Eton.
“You will all go to hell, your Archduke, your Archduchess, your pariahs, and your wizards, through and through!”
He was emotional and defiant as he output at the Etonian Duchy envoy.
The envoy of the Duchy of Eton, however, merely glared at him.
Rodney XVIII frowned, this was an important occasion for him to meet his bannermen, why was this ecclesiastical envoy like this?
The ceremonial officer standing next to him noticed the king’s expression, and he heaved the wooden staff in his hand towards the ground, making a dull but clear sound.
“Mr. Envoy!”
Rodney XVIII said, “Perhaps you should watch your words.”
The Archbishop of the Diocese of Aldo hurried out of the crowd, handed the King an apologetic look, and pulled the Papal Envoy back.
And so, in a strange atmosphere, the envoys of the nations continued to give their blessing to the new king.
It was not until the last envoy had given his blessing that Rodney XVIII ordered a banquet to be set up, and he was to entertain his own bannermen and the envoys of other nations.
The feast was more like a buffet, with food of all colors being served and guests free to walk around to pick their favorites.
The court servants carried wine through the room, refilling it for those who needed it.
People gathered in twos and threes, eating and drinking while talking about things, most of them were talking about the Duchy of Eton, and some of them were talking about the marriage of the royal family.
Paul stayed with Catherine at first, but neither of them spoke, making him feel a bit awkward and uninterested, so he left on his own after informing them that there were a few out-of-town lords who had business dealings with Alda, and that he wanted to go and make contacts.
But halfway there, a man with a long, thin face but two large beards stopped Paul.
“Count Greiman, congratulations!”
The man stopped another waiter and asked for two glasses of wine before handing one to Paul.
“Thank you, Sir Wendell.”
If Paul remembered correctly, this Sir Wendell was the envoy sent by the Greedy Wolf Archduke Giles.
