Chapter 609 – The Changes at Gambella 7
Chapter 609 – The Change of Gabella 7
Antonio arrived in front of the emperor’s chambers, but hovered in front of the door for a long time, hesitant to enter.
Aldrich, who was following him, took a step forward and said to him, “Your Highness, now that it has happened, the next scenario is that it has to be faced, and evasion will not solve anything.”
“You are right, my Maester.” Antonio said.
He straightened his clothes and with a stern look on his face, he lifted his feet and walked up the steps.
The guards standing in the doorway saluted him, but of course, they were all Antonio’s men. The Emperor’s original guards had all been placed elsewhere.
As soon as Antonio entered, he saw that Amborov was standing there. Amborov walked up and said, “Your Highness, your father is in a rather low mood right now, he is in need of comfort from someone close to him, so please hurry and go in.”
Antonio patted Amborov on the shoulder, “You did a great job, thank you for being a guard and for protecting my father.”
After saying that he crossed over to Amborov and walked into the bedroom inside.
On the bed in the bedroom was lying an old man with a haggard face and a sad expression. It was as if the Emperor of the Gabella Empire had instantly aged a dozen years.
His eyes had lost their former luster and were filled with cloudiness, and his hair had become disheveled due to his own tearing. The skin was devoid of luster and became dull.
His Imperial Majesty no longer seemed to care about the outside world, and even when Antonio came into the room, Bartlett Griffin didn’t lift his head a bit.
The court maid standing by the bedside had a look of awe in her eyes when she saw Antonio arrive. The current her already knew that the young man in front of her was the future ruler of this empire. His words would determine the fate of countless people.
The maid bowed and saluted, and Antonio waved his hand for her to retreat. The imperial son came to the bedside and softly called out, “Father, I’m here.”
It was only then that Emperor Bartlett Griffin slowly raised his own head, “You have come?” He said, a hint of hoarseness in his voice.
Antonio, gently sat down on the edge of the bed. The Emperor looked at his second son beside him. Suddenly, he reached out and hugged Antonio as hard as he could, letting out a loud cry.
Ambrose, who was outside the door, heard the Emperor’s cries and immediately burst in, and then saw this sight.
Antonio also stretched out his arms and hugged his father tightly, and his eyes became moist.
Antonio slowly said, “Father, I will govern this country even better, and she will become the greatest country in history and carry the glory of every human being.”
Antonio stayed in his father’s room for half an hour before coming out. Outside he saw someone who surprised him – Siegfried.
Antonio went up to him and embraced him, “My friend, my brother, I need you by my side so much right now.”
Siegfried responded warmly to his embrace, “I will always stay by your side, your highness.”
He glanced once toward the bedroom door and asked worriedly, “How is he, Your Majesty ……?”
Antonio shook his head, “This event has hit him too hard, my father will need time to heal the grief in his heart, but eventually he will realize that this is now reality.”
“Speaking of which. How did you end up here?” According to the plan, Siegfried was supposed to lead the army with Marshal MacDonald to move near the Imperial Capital and attack the Acropolis garrisoned by Duke Diaz’s cronies.
Siegfried laughed and said with some disdain, “Those cronies of Duke Diaz are just too unbearable to attack, there is only one acropolis left that is still resisting.”
“Marshal MacDonald said that leaving him in command of the army would be more than enough, and asked me to lead a portion of the soldiers to hurry back to the imperial capital in order to deter those who are still riding the wall and watching.”
Antonio said, “While we were doing it, Duke Diaz got the news from somewhere and actually ran away. He ran and lurked outside the imperial capital, and we haven’t found him yet. Therefore I suspect that he is lurking in this Acropolis that is still under resistance. You send word to Marshal MacDonald that you must be careful and more careful, and that the Duke himself and any remnants of his party must never be spared.”
“”Your Highness, I will do it properly, please don’t worry!”” Siegfried replied very seriously.
After coming out from the emperor’s chambers, Antonio held a meeting of the ten-man corps.
“Your Highness!” Master Matt presented a motion of his own at the meeting.
“This Barnett fellow has disappeared for too long, we should go get him back.”
As the most powerful melee caster, Barnett held a pivotal position in the Secret Law Society and was the undisputed leader of their faction. But embarrassingly, Barnett had been unheard of for several years.
In the early days, the Secret Society’s executives didn’t take it seriously, because Barnett had an arrogant personality, was never alone, and always did what he wanted. His character was not pleasant, and there was a certain amount of compromise involved in absorbing him as a member of the Order of Ten.
Many people were still secretly glad that the guy didn’t show himself often.
But even so, being such an important figure, disappearing from the organization for so long was not justifiable by any means. He was even absent from such an important operation as Emperor Antonio’s seizure of the imperial capital.
This was no longer some character flaw! Rather, it was a serious dereliction of duty, and he had to be punished.
But before that, the Secret Society must find him. Figure out what he’s currently doing? Or if he was no longer on this earth. In fact, many hope it’s the latter.
Antonio said, “Considering that he hasn’t returned to Gabora in such a long time. So we have to factor in the possibility that Barnett has gone rogue.”
“I agree with your idea!” Master Matt said with a nod of his head.
“And in order to deal with his possible defection, we must send strong characters to deal with him; Barnett is, after all, a powerful melee caster, and it will take the level of the Order of Ten to deal with him. Your Highness, let it be appointed by you!”
“I would like to hear your opinion on that, Master Matt.”
Dougherty Matter considered for a moment, “I would suggest appointing Master Odennell and Lady Mariana of the Red Flame to find Barnett. Odenel is a master who specializes in spirit magic and has a powerful hold on Barnett. And Lady Mariana was good at manipulating flames. If Barnett went rogue, with the two of them cooperating they would definitely be able to impose sanctions on him. Moreover, Barnett’s last trace of activity was in Aldo. Ms. Mariana is from Aldo, and she is very familiar with the place.”
“In that case, let’s do it.”
Antonio agreed to Dougherty Matt’s suggestion.
