Chapter 557: Hijacking
Chapter 557 – Hijacking
Zane led a group of militia brothers from Tata Village and darted into the front hall of the lord’s mansion, the front door of which was now open.
The sight inside surprised them.
A big, burly man, who appeared to be the head of the public security department, was at that moment tightening his arms, which were as thick as a normal person’s thighs, around the neck of a person, and the person he was controlling was no one else but the police detachment leader, Bilair McReynolds, who had brought them to the lord’s mansion to carry out a security mission.
At this moment, McReynolds was in a bad situation, he was held like a chicken by Ruth Hayden, who was two heads taller than him, and his hands tightly grasped the strong arm that was holding his neck, and he was trying hard to break the arm from his neck, but Ruth Hayden’s arm was immovable, as if it was made of steel. McReynolds’ temples bulged with veins, obviously exerting themselves, and drops of sweat the size of beans rolled down his forehead.
The guards of the lord’s mansion tightly surrounded Ruth Hayden and the other officials, nervously guarding the surrounding area, while the police, who rushed in a little earlier than the militia, stared in disbelief at the unbelievable scene.
If there is only Ruth Hayden alone, then he may be the insurgent lurking in the city, but …… look at this scene in front of him …… he carefully observed the head of the Council of State Sir Ford and the lord’s house of the old steward Philip, they are standing in the Ruth – Hayden’s side, the expression on their faces did not have the slightest color of panic, but instead, they looked at the others with a resolute face.
Chief Steward Ford and Head Steward Philip …… mutiny? How can it be!
Although Zane doesn’t live in Lake Town, but these two people he has heard of, in every way, these two people should be the most relied upon and trusted by Earl Greiman, no matter what, it is impossible to mutiny.
As for the other officials, their reaction was no better than the police and militia, and they were also very shocked by what was happening around them.
“Let go of Lord MacReynolds! You are rebelling.”
Several police officers shouted towards their head of Public Safety.
Hearing the shouts of his companions, Lucas, who stood in the police line, frowned tightly; he could recognize that the police officers who had raised their voices were the ones whom McReynolds usually trusted the most. However, the one they were facing now was the leader of all the police officers, Lord Ruth Hayden, not to mention that the head of the Council of State and the steward of the Lord’s House on the side seemed to be on Lord Hayden’s side as well.
Ruth Hayden glared his own eyes wide and round, and the former captain of the guards’ gaze was quite intimidating.
“All hands!” He yelled, the halls of the lord’s mansion were designed to have an echo effect, Ruth Hayden’s voice sounded like thunder in the ears of the crowd.
“Burgum Valen and Bilel McReynolds are the rebels.”
“Don’t listen to him!” Bilel McReynolds was already red in the face from the hooped neck, but still spelled out to Ritchie, “Hurry up and get me out of this traitor’s hands.”
While the militia were at a loss for words, nearly half of the police raised their guns and aimed them at Ruth Hayden – who had also been issued a gun – but the Lords’ House guards who had shielded Ruth Hayden also immediately raised their guns and confronted the police.
“All of you, put down your guns!”
Ruth Hayden’s eyes widened angrily at the sight, and the arm that was hooping McReynolds applied a few more points of force, and McReynolds, grimacing in pain, hurriedly said to the policemen under his own command, “Put down your guns, put down your guns!”
Those police officers who raised their guns looked at each other and silently put down the guys in their hands.
“Chief Ford? What’s going on here?”
The officers surrounded by the guards also calmed down from their initial panic, and Cecil, Hansel, Bernard, and the others, among others, looked to Old Ford for an answer.
“Everyone listen to me!” Ford Sr., the head of the Council of State, spoke after clearing his throat heavily.
Everyone in the hall, except for the guards who were on alert, turned their gazes to him. “We’ve just received news from our lord – yes, that’s right, our lord, Count Paul Greiman, is still alive – he was indeed attacked by traitors, and that group of traitors, among whom Burgum and Bilair were came from, the House of Valen and the House of MacReynolds!”
“Ho-ho!”
A voice of surprise rang through the hall.
Cecil reacted, “That means that the rebels Bourgain was talking about were themselves!”
“Yes!” Steward Philip confirmed.
The controlled Bilel McReynolds was sweating like a pig, shocked and panicked.
He couldn’t figure out how Old Ford and Philip got the news. Lake Town should have been cut off from the internal and external channels, can they not be telepathic?
He came to see this group of “hostages”, did not expect to become a hostage.
“Militia brothers! Brothers of the police!”
Ruth Hayden shouted towards them, “Wake up in time from the lies of these traitors. Burgum used his authority to hoodwink the militia who had come to the muster while the Lakewood garrison was away, and Bilel deceived his police subordinates, and perhaps other departments as well, by spreading the news of the lord’s assassination-though it was not altogether a falsehood- and -that threw the whole city into chaos, took the opportunity to take control of the situation, and elected their own puppet lords!”
He even glared at Urio, who was still sitting in the lord’s seat, when he said the last sentence.
The acting lord in this matter no longer had the demeanor he had a moment ago, and was trembling like sifting chaff as two guards pressed down on his shoulders left and right.
“It’s none of my business! I …… really didn’t know that Bulgan was the rebel ah!”
The sweaty Urio howled miserably, his voice resounding through the hall, but no one paid him any attention.
“Hahahahaha!” Bilel McReynolds let out a laugh, though everyone could hear his colorful voice.
“Late! Too late! You all know too late. The tyrant Paul Gleeman is finished! We’ve already won a big part of the battle in fact. If you can recognize the situation, early surrender is the right choice.”
Ruth came at him hard towards his stomach, and Bilel shriveled up like a frosted eggplant.
“Everyone, don’t listen to the traitor’s nonsense, Lord Gleiman is safe and sound, the 8th Infantry Battalion has already secured him.”
Old Ford righteously refuted, though it was his guess.
“Moreover, Chief of Staff Schroeder recognized the traitor’s plot in time to get out of the city in the night to get reinforcements, and he has now fought his way back with an army at his head. Bulgan left in a hurry just now because of that. But there’s no way the militia under his command can stand up to Schroeder’s regular army – I have a lot of respect for the militia, but it is what it is, and we all have different roles to play and training inputs.”
Old Ford’s last sentence was directed towards Zane and the other militia members.
