530. Babol village
Chapter 530 – Babol Village
At the entrance of the manor of Babol Village, a few people dressed as knights were sitting on their horses and looking at the eastern avenue from afar.
“Lord Fergus.”
A younger knight asked the leader, “Do you think Paul Gleeman will come?”
Fergus glanced at him, “Chacon, Lord Gleiman is a man who strictly adheres to his appointments, and since I have received a reply from him and the letter is still an affirmative answer, he will definitely come on the appointed date.”
The young knight said no more and continued to look at the end of the main road.
At that moment a cloud of dust rose as far as their sight could reach.
Gradually, the billowing dust became more and more diffuse, as if a procession was driving this way.
“It’s coming, it’s coming, under the banner of the lord family.” Someone with good eyesight yelled in confirmation.
Fergus’s heart sank, as if a stone hanging high above finally smashed down and landed heavily on his heart.
He said in a deep voice, “Everyone, the lord is coming over, now all hide your little minds, be careful to entertain them in a while, and don’t reveal anything in advance.”
“Don’t worry, Lord Fergus.”
The crowd patted their chests and responded.
The team was getting closer and closer, everyone finally saw the size of that team, Fergus roughly estimated, good lord, there were more than fifty people.
His heart was clenched tightly again. What’s going on? How did so many people come.
Is the lord here to hunt, or to …… or to …… or to arrest people?
He knew that the guards who escorted the lord were all good people with high martial arts skills, and these fifty people could beat five hundred people on their side when they moved.
But now the bow and arrow are already on the bowstring, and there is no way back for himself.
Fergus hardened his head and gently shook the reins. The mount under his crotch seemed to be able to sense the complex mood of his master, and surprisingly did not hoof it as well behaved as usual, but spun in place uneasily.
“Shaq! Be good and obedient.”
Fergus stroked the horse’s neck to calm the uneasy mount. Eventually the horse broke into four hooves and trotted forward at a trot.
As he traveled about a hundred yards or so from the group, two knights darted out from the group.
“The man in front stop! State your identity.” One of the knights yelled towards Fergus.
“I’m Knight Fergus of the Gladman family! His Lordship recognizes me.”
Fergus responded with the same loud voice, slightly unhappy in his heart. However, it had been a few years since he had left Lake Town, so these two were probably newcomers and didn’t recognize him.
The procession had stopped, and Paul recognized Fergus as he called out to the front, “It’s all right, let him through.”
The two knights then flashed to the sides, making way for Fergus.
Fergus spurred his horse and quickly came in front of Paul, he flipped down from his horse and bowed towards Paul – using the same traditional kind of etiquette that knights use to meet their lord.
“Thank you for coming to the appointment, Lord Gleeman, my friends and I will be proud of your presence today.”
“It’s been a long time, Fergus!” Paul let out a loud laugh, and he was about to dismount and give Fergus a hug, but immediately received a reminder from a stern gaze from Victor, the captain of the guards.
From a while ago, Head of Intelligence Department Cecil and Captain of the Guard Victor had repeatedly reminded Paul not to easily approach those who he didn’t normally have much contact with, no matter how well acquainted and trusting of each other they used to be with him.
Considering that what he had done recently was somewhat sensitive, Paul decided to follow their advice.
He glanced slightly apologetically at his former family knight. “I should be the one to thank you for inviting me to such an interesting event. Alas, I was too busy a while ago, so I had to put off your several invitations, I’m very sorry. Hahaha!”
“Where!” Fergus also laughed and replied, “It’s a great honor bestowed upon me that Lord Gleeman can come. It’s just that ……”
He glanced at the long line, and his words revealed a hint of doubt.
“Oh! It’s all Victor’s fault.”
Paul didn’t hesitate to snap his hat to the head of the captain of the guards next to him, “I said that it’s just a trip in my own territory, it’s not like going to Jingyao to have an audience with the king, there’s no need to make it so loud, but he didn’t listen and insisted on doing it this way.”
There was still some indignation in his tone.
Victor rolled off his horse without changing his face and moved forward to have a bear hug with Fergus.
“It’s been a long time, Lord Fergus.”
“It really has been a long time, Victor, you’ve matured. Are you in charge of Lord Greymane’s escort now?”
“Yes!”
“Where’s Ruth?”
“Lord Hayden’s head of Public Safety now, so I’m being herded by him.”
Victor and Fergus were old acquaintances, he explained the reason why he brought so many guards, “Lord Fergus, you’ve been living in the countryside without much contact with the outside world, but the current Arda is not the remote and withered Arda of the past. I don’t know how many people out there covet Lord Greymane’s power and wealth openly and secretly, of course including his life. That’s why I had to arrange so many people when Lord Gryman travels now.”
He put on a complaining expression, “Ugh, you know what, I’m under a lot of pressure right now.” Ruffling his hair again, “You see how much less hair I have now than when we last met.”
Fergus’ hanging heart slightly relaxed, listening to the words of the two people, it seems that they did not purposely bring so many people in order to come to him.
“Please, Lord Graiman, come to my manor first, and I will receive you and drive away the fatigue of your journey.”
Fergus smiled and invited Paul, “Oh yes.” He pointed to the people still waiting at the entrance to the village.
“There are a few other friends who have joined me to greet you. Let me introduce you later.”
Paul nodded, “Good! Take me to your estate and sit with me, my Fergus.”
Fergus then remounted his own horse and led Paul’s party toward the village.
……
“Here comes Gladman!”
At the entrance to the village, the remaining knights watched the entire time as Fergus ran past to make contact with the lord’s party.
The young man, who Fergus addressed as Chacon, said with a bit of apprehension, “Why is he bringing so many people with him, he can’t be knowing something ahead of time, right?”
“See what Lord Fergus wants to do later.”
The one who answered him was another young man who was slightly older than Chacon, “Hmph! What’s the use of bringing more people? This is our territory, if you come here, you have to be held by us, and even more people will just be used for Gleeman’s funeral.”
The young man looked at the team with an icy coldness in his eyes.
