Chapter 473 – Joni
Chapter 473 Jonny
Master Odonnell slowly stood up from the ground and patted his clothes.
His complexion had regained its calmness and was no longer as grim as it was when he cast the spell just now.
“In the garden behind the mansion, there is a camouflaged wigwam, and by rattling a tortoise-shell-shaped stone ornament on the wigwam, a passageway to the underground can be opened, and our target is down there.”
Dessen and Andy looked at each other.
“I’ll go inform them!”
He hurried outside; after all this time, the target couldn’t afford to be smoked out.
Odenel instructed Andy who stayed behind, “Clean up this place, especially this spell, don’t leave a single trace, as for this person ……”
He glanced at Master Somolette, who was still paralyzed on the ground.
“Throw him into the fire outside.”
“Yes, Master.”
Andy nodded in response.
……
Half an hour later, a blackened wigwam stood alone in the back garden of the Somolet family mansion that had been burned to ashes.
After a few rumbles, a one meter square floor tile moved open and the blackened entrance was revealed in front of everyone’s eyes.
Under Valdes’ command, the black-robed people entered the tunnel.
There was good ventilation inside, so the smoke from the fire poured in, choking them all the way.
I hope the target is okay – so prayed Valdes.
It wasn’t a labyrinth in here, there was only one straight path that should be used simply for temporary shelter.
Finally they came to the end, a stone room about twenty square feet in size.
There were no other items in the room except for the candles used for lighting, and there was an unobstructed view of the room.
In the corner, the black-robed people found the target of this operation.
A person dressed as a slave was lying on the ground covering his chest, motionless, looking like he had already died for a long time.
Next to the slave’s body, a teenager younger than the young mage Andy who had stayed outside was looking at them warily.
He was bent over with his back arched, using his left arm to block his mouth and nose, while his right hand held a candlestick that was still dripping blood, and the sharp spikes of the candlestick flickered with a cold aura.
The young man’s eyes were sharp, as if he were a young panther trying to hunt alone for the first time.
Valdes waved his hand, signaling his companions not to make a move.
“I’ll do it!”
Carol, the only female in the group, spoke up and suggested.
Valdes nodded.
Carol crossed over to Valdes and slowly approached the teenager.
“Who are you people?”
The teen asked out loud, the fear and nervousness inside him audible in the tone.
Carol slowly took off her poser pocket, revealing her face, and softly said, “Child, don’t be afraid, we are the ones who came to save you.”
The woman’s pretty face and gentle words lowered the teenager’s wariness.
He stood up straight, though still holding the candlestick in his hand.
“The one who saved me? Heavenly Father! What on earth has happened? First a group of people say they want to take me to a rich man’s life, and when my parents don’t agree they kill them and take me captive to this inexplicable place, and then you guys pop up and say you’re here to rescue me, and I’m supposed to believe you?”
As he spoke, he actually cried, the teenager had suffered a drastic change in his life during this period of time and had endured too much mental stress. Carole took advantage of his unguarded moment and took a step forward to snatch the candlestick and throw it on the ground, then unceremoniously wrapped the teenager in her arms.
The teenager struggled a few times, but in the end, his strength was too small and he stopped moving.
Carol said, “I know you’re in a great deal of pain right now, so please give us a little time to prove ourselves. But first we need to leave this place of wrongdoing as soon as possible. I assure you that your person is safe, now and in the future – the people who kidnapped you have already been taken out by us.”
Valdes waved a hand, “It’s getting late, let’s get out of here before dawn.”
The group led the teen back to the surface, following a safe passage through the flames to the woods outside the town, where six wagons awaited them silently.
Carol rode in one of the wagons with the teenager.
After the wagons pulled away from the town of River Sands, she asked, “What is your name?”
“Joanie, Joanie Landry.”
“Son, did you kill that man in the basement?”
“Uh …… yes.” The teenager named Jonny lowered his head with an expression that looked both like fear and fear that he had done something wrong.
“He dragged me down to that basement when the fire first started. Then when he heard movement from above, he took his dagger and screamed in desperation that it was all over, saying he was sending me on my way. Luckily, I was prepared, and when I entered the basement I casually fumbled for a candlestick and hid it in my shirt, then when he wasn’t looking – he thought I wouldn’t resist – I stabbed the tip of the candlestick into his chest, and then you guys showed up.”
Carol smiled and stroked his head, “You did well, that’s how you should treat bad guys without mercy, that relative of yours would be proud of you.”
Jonny looked up quizzically, “Which relative of mine?”
“You’ll find out when we get to our destination, it will be explained to you what happened then.”
As the wagon lurched, the teenager Jonny fell into a deep sleep of confusion, the ups and downs of his life had left him simply too tired.
Valdes, who was riding in the same carriage, said with emotion, “A small age is so ruthless …… or decisive in the face of danger, should I say that it really deserves to be the bloodline of the Griffin family?”
“I hope he can be a help rather than a threat to your highness.”
A cold glint flashed through Valdes’ eyes.
……
The residents of Sand River Town worked all night and finally extinguished the fire in the southwest corner of the town at dawn.
As people walked into the affected area, they were all saddened by the tragic state of the place.
All the buildings had been burned to ashes, and there were many corpses on the streets, either killed by severe burns or suffocated by the smoke from the fire.
There were actually more people who had been reduced to a pile of ashes.
The residents of the town were basically all related to each other, and there were cries in all directions.
The largest building complex in this area was the Somolet family’s mansion, and at this time, the former magnificent and luxurious mansion had also been reduced to a piece of scorched earth.
What’s even more horrifying is that in the courtyard in front of the mansion, people found the ashes of many people near the original fountain.
They may have tried to run here to escape the fire, but the flames eventually spread here.
“Master! Ah! Master!”
A man cried out in grief, and it was noticed that it was a servant of the mayor’s household.
He was pouncing on a body on the ground that had not turned to ashes but had been burned beyond recognition, bawling his eyes out.
The servant recognized his master by the gold ornaments on the corpse.
There were several other corpses lying scattered next to the mayor’s body, which would be the ones who rushed into the fire with the mayor at that time.
The entire town of River Sand was shrouded in great grief.
