Chapter 414 – The Weaving Ground

Chapter 414 – The Weaving Ground

“Small means?” Servia’s heart tightened, but her mouth didn’t admit it yet.

“Lord Sertia, I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Lardy sneered, “Do you think I don’t see you trying to drop hints on me the other night?”

Being pointed out to her face, Servia wasn’t flustered and responded, “Likewise to each other, didn’t you follow and investigate me all night as well? I didn’t even expect to be approached as soon as I woke up.”

Lardy stopped pestering her and turned to Paul, “Lord Gleeman, do you have any other plans next? If there’s nothing else, I’ll head back to Lakewood.”

Paul stroked his chin in thought and said, “Well …… this morning I was invited to visit a weaving farm. You shouldn’t be in a hurry to go back, so accompany me to take a look.”

Lardy said happily, “I would like to go with you.”

An idea popped into her mind and she suggested, “Why don’t you let Miss Asitini go with you, so that she can learn about the customs of the Northwest Gulf.”

Paul agreed, “I have no objection if Miss Assitini has the time.”

Servia took a step forward, “Lord Graiman, I would be honored.”

……

Patricia, the owner of the textile workshop, immediately trotted over to Paolo’s carriage when she saw the lord’s party appear in front of her workshop.

“Welcome Lord Greiman, I am truly honored by your arrival.”

Paul and his party stepped out of the carriage and said with a smile, “Patridge, I hope my arrival won’t affect your work.”

“No where, everyone in the workshop is thrilled to meet Lord Gladman, they work with even more enthusiasm.”

Patridge smiled fawningly and led Paul and the others inside the workshop, because he had inquired about Paul’s preferences beforehand, he didn’t have to organize any welcoming ceremony.

Paul and Partridge walked and talked in front of them, with Ladi, Servia and the other attendants following behind.

Servia walked beside Lardy and followed to a factory building that presented a sight that shook her to the core.

Machine after machine was neatly arranged in a wide field, with a worker sitting in front of each machine to operate it.

It was easy to see that they were weaving cloth, only to see that along with the worker’s left and right feet alternately stepping on the pedals, the rows of warp yarns on the loom were interlocked up and down, and as the worker pulled the rope, a shuttle pulled the weft yarns back and forth between the warp yarns, and the cloth was rapidly molded on the loom at a speed that could be seen with the naked eye.

Sylvia had seen other people weaving cloth when she was a child, if it was an ordinary loom, the shuttle used to pull the weft threads was passed from one hand to the other by the operator, not like the shuttle on this kind of machine in front of her, pulling the rope to “fly” from one side to the other at a very high speed.

This unfamiliar loom, not to mention the speed compared to the traditional loom greatly improved, the width of the cloth weaved is far from the traditional loom can be compared to the traditional loom, the traditional one-man operation of the loom, because of the limitations of the operator’s arm length, the width of the cloth weaved out of the general in 40 centimeters or so, and in front of the production of this kind of machine on the cloth, the width of the cloth, are nearly a meter.

Clang, clang ……

The entire building was filled with the sound of machines weaving cloth, as if it was a chorus of machines.

The wide field, the large number of neatly arranged looms, the workers with busy hands and feet, the whole picture was filled with an ineffable sense of beauty.

“What kind of power do you think can be considered ‘great power’?” The voice of the Witch of Green suddenly rang in her ears.

Naturally, it was magic!
If it was in the past, Servia would have answered so without hesitation, but she now felt that the other party meant what she said.

“You should know my answer, what’s the point of asking that?” Sevia asked back.

Lardy looked to see some looms and replied, “I used to think, like you, that magic was the greatest power in the world. It can make you unrivaled in battle, it can take someone’s life with ease, it can play others off of each other, and it can even control a person’s mind and make them do your bidding.”

“That’s true, I think so too.” Sevia responded.

Lardy, however, continued:

“But since coming to the Northwest Bay, my thoughts have changed a lot. Fighting, killing, dominating, fooling, it’s not just magic that can do that.”

She turned to stare at Servia.

“There are also swords, money, power, and intrigue, and we spellcasters are no different from the knights who are skilled in martial arts, the rich whose families are wealthy, and the monarchs who are skilled in the ways of the king.”

“You ……” said Servia, a little disconcerted, but unable to find anything to say in retort, for the other seemed right.

She asked, “And what about you? What kind of power do you think can be called great.”

Lardy shook her head and said, “I am not yet in a position to judge. But I can share some of my own humble opinions with you.”

Xavia listened carefully to what Ladi had to say.

“Xavia, my sister, although we spellcasters are much misunderstood by the world, it must be recognized that our group is also full of pretentious people with a sense of superiority of one kind or another.”

“Indeed.”

Servia agreed with that, recalling the first time she managed to cast a spell, the great joy and pride that she felt until now was heartening to recall.

I must be the chosen one – that thought arose in her mind at the time.

And there was a saying widely spread among the wizards that intensified her identity and pride in her new status – spell casters possessed powerful magic while mortals did not, and the difference between spell casters and mortals was like the difference between a stallion and an incompetent horse, where the incompetent horse was jealous of the stallion’s ability to travel thousands of miles a day, so it relied on its superiority in numbers to persecute the stallion in an attempt to destroy it, thinking that the world would be without stallions. The crippled horse is jealous of the stallion’s ability to travel a thousand miles a day, so he uses his numerical superiority to persecute the stallion in an attempt to eliminate him.

Letting go of her memories, she heard Lardy say with some self-deprecation, “If you think about it, it’s the same with the knights and the kings who wield power. Everyone sees the world from a self-centered perspective, whether it is because of their bloodline or because of their abilities, everyone thinks that they are extraordinary people who are different from ordinary people, people with power.”

“These extraordinary people, including us spell casters, think that they are writing history with their power, think that they are shaping the world according to their power, but when you think about it, how has their power ever truly changed history and the world.”

Lardy’s words left Servia a little puzzled.

Had history and the world never changed?
Though not a scholar, Servia had read quite a few books.

If history and the world hadn’t changed, then how did the history of the rise and fall of kingdoms, and the heroic adventures of epic poems come into being?
