Chapter 280: Catching up
Chapter 280 – Catching Up
“Your Highness, why are you in the Northwest Bay?”
When he saw Erin again, Mond Langdon’s face still wore a few looks of disbelief, and for a moment he thought that he was hallucinating about what happened when he left the lord’s mansion.
How could Her Highness, the little princess of the Ordo Kingdom, be in such a remote place, and …… and …… seemed to be working under a local lord.
Hearing Meng De’s words, Erin unsatisfiedly pouted her small mouth, ”What Your Highness or not? Senior, how many times have I said that you can just address me by my name. But …… here you have to call me Betty.”
“Uh …… okay, Betty.” Mond squirmed and called her by her current name.
Erin explained to him why she was here, “I was forced to come here!”
“Forced?” What could force a princess to leave her home?
Irene immediately became furious and said with her arms crossed in a very unladylike manner, “That old man Rodney the Seventeenth is trying to marry his youngest daughter to the Duke of Eastland!”
“Uh …… His Majesty the King he actually ……”
It turned out to be running away from home and rebelling against the marriage arranged by the king.
Mond was surprised, he hadn’t even heard of it when he was in the Gabella Empire, it looked like the news was blocked.
He looked at Ayrin with more sympathy in his eyes. When they were studying together, although there was a difference in status, Mond’s heart had always treated this lively and lovely little princess as a sister.
Alas! Girls born in the royal family have marriages that are more or less politically colored.
This schoolmate of his is really courageous, Mond secretly marveled in his heart.
Then again, has the royal family of Aldo been pushed to this point? Thinking of this, a pang of guilt welled up inside Mond’s heart and asked, “Can you tell me about the exact situation?”
“Well, I was just about to find an acquaintance to talk to about it!”
So Erin sat down as well, and told in detail how she and her retainer, Lia, escaped from the royal capital, how they traveled all the way north, and were finally rescued by Paul Gleiman when they were shipwrecked in the woods.
Perhaps feeling too ashamed, Irene didn’t say that she had planned to go to the Gabella Empire, but ended up coming to the Northwest Bay in a confused manner because of her road-wariness.
Mond heard that the female guard named Liya accompanied Irene, and asked after a sigh of relief, “Looking at today’s situation in the lord’s mansion, Count Gleiman still doesn’t know your real identity, right?”
“Well, I took the name Betty Diaz and stayed here as a scholar.”
“I see… …… Then you …… seem to be working within the lord’s mansion?”
“Yes, as you can see, I came just as the lord’s mansion was recruiting, so I applied for the job, at first as an advisor, and then Earl Gladman appointed me to head up the education side of things.”
“Education? I can’t imagine that this young lord still values this so much?”
“Yes! That’s one of the things I admire about him, there aren’t many lords in the north, or even in all of Aldo, who realize the significance of this aspect.”
“Oh, Ai …… cough! Betty, it’s not that they don’t realize it, but …… it’s not good for the common people to know too much.”
“Alright! Stop it!” Erin pushed her hands forward, “I have little interest in those so-called [Art of Domination]. Tell you oh, the six schools that have already been established through my hands are, of course, still of the very elementary kind, and my ultimate goal is to make everyone in this land know how to read.”
As she said the latter words, Erin’s face was filled with pride.
“That’s a daunting task!” Mond said so with his mouth, but in his heart, he was secretly shaking his head. What on earth was that lord thinking? Allowing the little princess to act this way, could it be that she was overwhelmed by Ayrin’s beauty?
“Speaking of which, is teacher’s health good? And how did Senior Monde come here?”
“Mentor’s health is fine! I came here to claim a child who was recognized by the tutor a long time ago. Haha, you’re about to have another schoolmate.” Surprise surfaced on Ayrin’s face, “Teacher came here too? What a lucky kid, what’s his name and which village or town is he from? I already know the names of the places here like the back of my hand.”
Mond then introduced him to Kevin and how he was almost exiled to the northern forest to clear the wasteland.
“A fortunate boy indeed,” Irene lamented again, “Had it been a little later, perhaps the schoolmaster would have had to go to him in the great forest to the north.”
Erin asked again, “So …… cousin is he all right?”
“His Royal Highness well …… how can I say it, our eastern neighbors are getting restless again, and His Royal Highness led the army to settle them.”
Irene both surprised and worried, very nervous to ask: “Ah? Cousin he will not be in danger, right?”
Mond laughed and said, “Haha, just be relieved, not to mention the fact that Gabella’s army is immensely powerful, just based on His Highness’s talent alone, nothing will happen and everything will be fine.”
“Ugh ……” Erin was still a bit worried, “Damn wars, how come they’re everywhere. The south is at war, the north is at war, and the east is at war.”
Mond suddenly thought of something and asked, “Are you safe here? I heard that Earl Gleiman and a few other lords seem to be at war with the current Northwest Duke?”
“It’s safe!” Ayrin said confidently, as a senior member of the Council of State, she naturally knew the strength of Arda’s army, and it was definitely more than enough to protect herself in this land of the Northwest.
Mond reminded him, “In short, reveal your true identity when necessary.”
“I will.”
“Erin ……,” Mond whispered the young princess’s real name with a look of shame on his face.
Seeing the other man looking like that, Erin was very puzzled, “What’s the matter, Senpai?”
Mond said with some hesitation, “How do you feel about using despicable means if it’s for a noble goal?”
Why did the senior inexplicably ask such words?
But Erin quickly replied, “From an outsider’s point of view, it’s self-heatingly heroic.”
Mond’s eyes lit up, “Oh? So you agree?”
“Not exactly, if it was from the standpoint of someone on the inside of the bureau, especially the victim of the so-called [despicable means] tactics, then I’m afraid I’d be filled with hatred.”
Mond’s face instantly turned dull.
“Irene, in the future you may come across something so hopeless that you can only choose the least bad of those bad methods.”
That was all he could explain, but the remark made Irene more and more puzzled.
“Senior, what on earth is wrong with you? Suddenly chatting about this.”
“I …… ugh~ Never mind.”
Erin’s words left Mond at a loss for an explanation, so he had to cover it up softly.
