Chapter 180: Setting an ambush
Chapter 180 Setting an Ambush
Anthony held the bishop’s hand tightly.
“Now I’m even more certain that I didn’t look away. Lord Elvis, when you sit as the Archbishop of Horn Bay, you will be able to compete for that supreme position! And those of us who are in the Holy Capital but are powerless to change the status quo are waiting for you to preside over the big picture!”
Elvis’s heart leapt wildly within him, and a wonderful picture instantly drew up in his mind!
He didn’t really question why Anthony didn’t work towards that direction himself, after all, the other party was in a special system within the Holy See, and basically had no chance with that supreme position.
So it was only logical to look for like-minded people on the outside and secretly assist them to the throne.
“We are all servants of the Heavenly Lord, and there is no division between the high and the low.”
Elvis realized that he had just been a bit too emotionally outgoing and hurriedly restored his usual bishop’s majesty.
Anthony held back his laughter, “Please don’t blame me for talking too much, although I can secretly assist you with a helping hand, in the end, it still depends on your performance, and it’s likely that I’m not the only one shouldering this secret mission. Moreover, if you do become the Archbishop of Horn Bay and are interested in that position, then you will have to show better and more performance.”
“I know this, and I thank His Eminence Anthony for reminding me.”
Although his face resumed its ancient appearance, Elvis’ heart was lit up with fighting spirit. How to make better achievements of others? Let those worldly rulers prostrate themselves under the Lord’s might, completely and heartily!
Anthony grabbed a small handful of grain and sprinkled it on the ground, and a large flock of birds came up to compete for it.
One high-crowned parrot that had flown in from nowhere mingled with them.
“A green high-crowned parrot? That’s pretty rare, aren’t they usually white or gray?”
Curiosity flickered in Anthony’s mind, glancing a few more times towards the strange parrot.
He grabbed another handful of grain and sprinkled a little more near the parrot.
“Speak up!”
Something suddenly occurred to him.
“The Grand Duchess already knows that her sister is in this church, doesn’t she?”
Elvis nodded, “Though I didn’t say so explicitly, I feel certain she suspected this place first.”
A look of concern crossed Anthony’s face.
“What if she comes into the church and robs someone?”
“She …… she dares! This is not the Duchy of Eton.”
Anthony shook his head, “Fear not, fear not, once a woman loses her mind she can do anything, but we have her own sister locked up.”
“Well …… you are also right.”
“I would suggest that it would be better to move the people for now until it is clear that we are waiting for a reply from the Grand Duchess. Are there any good places to hide people around here?”
“There’s a remote village on the northern outskirts that not many outsiders go through on weekdays, and it has a country church inside. That place is quite suitable for hiding people.”
“I think you’d better transfer the people there!”
Elvis nodded, “I’ll do it now!”
“No!” Anthony stopped him, “The road is crowded now, it’s better to wait until after dark, it’s not that bad.”
Elvis accepted the suggestion.
“Also, let’s just go straight through the north gate when it gets dark, the north gate will be the only one that won’t be closed at that time. “
The green parrot on the ground seemed to be well fed, stronger and bigger than the other birds, and none of the other birds could grab it.
The parrot fluttered its wings and took to the air, circling over the church a few times before flying off into the distance ……
Helen fidgeted in the room of the Archduke and his wife within the Eton Embassy, pacing back and forth across the room at times, going to the window and gazing into the distance.
It was evident that the Grand Duchess was now disturbed, and after looking out through the window once more, she made her way to the edge of the bed.
On the bed was lying a person, handsome and green-haired, none other than her schoolmate, Laddie Sertia Gerard. At the moment, Lardy’s eyes were closed tightly, and she looked as if she was asleep or unconscious.
Helen reached out her hand and probed Lardy’s nostrils, there was nothing out of the ordinary, the worry in her heart eased a little.
A green parrot flew in through the window and landed on the nightstand.
“Lardy!”
Helen let out a yelp of surprise as her schoolmate finally returned safely.
The parrot nodded to her before jumping onto the unconscious body on the bed.
It reached out its own head and gently touched its beak to Lara’s forehead.
After about half a minute, the person on the bed slowly opened her own eyes.
Helen asked worriedly, “Lardy! Is everything alright with your body? Is there any discomfort?”
“Sister!”
Lardy, however, didn’t answer Helen’s question right away, but grabbed her hand as soon as she could.
“Fanny should be in the cathedral, but they’re planning to move her to a country church on the northern outskirts tonight, and it’s directly through the north city gates.”
Before answering the previous question, “Don’t worry, I’m all right and in good shape.”
A look of both gratitude and joy crossed Helen’s face as she took Lardy into a tight embrace.
“Thank you, my good sister, once again you’ve done me a great favor.”
“Let’s not talk about that for now, schoolmarm, let’s plan how we’re going to rescue Fanny, I think tonight was a godsend.”
“Well, you’re right!”
The Grand Duchess took out her handkerchief and wiped the corners of her moist eyes.
“But it’s not clear how many people the other side will have, it won’t work with just the two of us.”
Hearing Helen’s words, Lardy remembered her friends from the Leachman Adventure Group, who happened to have taken on the commission of finding Fanny, but as soon as she thought that this was a head-on confrontation with the church, she immediately pushed the thought out of her mind, and definitely could not drag them into it.
Then she thought of the crew of the Southern ship, they were equipped with dozens of guns, but this idea was also immediately abandoned, in case the commotion was too big, it would seriously affect Earl Greiman’s trade plans, and they couldn’t be dragged into it either.
Besides, people are just helping to pick up their own families by the way, whether they are willing to help or not is still a matter of opinion.
Helen, however, had a look of confidence.
“In these recent days, in order to search for Fanny, the Horned Bay Alliance has agreed to us transferring a group of men from Eton, which includes many people from my mother’s family. I will gather them to set up an ambush near the north city gate to recapture Fanny.”
“How many men can you muster before nightfall?”
“Thirty or forty men or still more.”
Lardy nodded, then suggested, “Sister, I’ll go with them, I might be able to help.”
Helen held her hand tightly, “Appreciate it, but follow them in the dark, if the other side is small, just let my people deal with it directly, if my people can’t deal with it, then you will make your move.”
“Okay! Don’t worry, senior sister, I know how to hide my identity.”
“La Di!”
“Anything else?”
“I’m coming along.”
