Chapter 159: Attack and Defense of the Fortress 1
Chapter 159 – Fortress Attack and Defense 1
Seeing Samar’s hesitation, Sorcerer Scott secretly despised it.
Truly, such a coward was able to become a party commander, I really don’t know what Archduke Giles was thinking.
Scott thought to himself that with his magic, he could completely take down the fortress with ease.
He slowly stood up and bowed gently to Samar, who was sitting at the head of the table, before looking around at the officers present.
“Lord Samar, and generals, allow me to formally introduce you to the spell I specialize in – enchantment.”
“With this type of magic, I am able to apply temporary or permanent enhancements to weapons, armor, and other equipment; in the case of defensive armor, for example, with a light leather armor, I can gain its defensive capabilities to the strength of a piece of scale or chainmail, and with a light chainmail, I can gain its defensive capabilities to the strength of plate armor.”
“I believe everyone saw the performance of the scouts a few days ago, five of them fought against seven of the enemy, but achieved an overwhelming victory, the other side except for one who ran away, four were killed and two were captured alive, while only three of us suffered insignificant light injuries.”
An officer called out, “Yes, that is indeed incredible, your magic is truly out of this world.”
Scott shot him a satisfied look.
“I can enchant swords, turn ordinary iron swords into steel swords, and make crude weapons as powerful as those crafted by dwarven masters.”
The officers present let out gasps of amazement and talked amongst themselves about the significance of enchantments for combat. ,
Samar asked, “How many people can you enchant? Is there no limit at all?”
Scott said proudly, “Lord General, with the ability of me and a few of my men, if we cast the spell together, we can add the effect to 500 soldiers wearing ordinary leather armor, raising their defense to the level of plate armor, moreover, as long as the soldiers are made to wear leather boots and leather gloves, they can obtain the effect of a complete set of armor for their entire body. ”
Samar asked again, “Is this gain permanent?”
Scott’s voice trailed off for a moment, “Uh …… no, the effect lasts for about five hours, but if it is enchanted during the crafting process, it can achieve a semi-permanent effect.”
Samar shook his head, “We’ll be too late if we make it now.”
“Lord General!”
Scott’s voice rose again, “Four or five hours is perfectly enough. Think about it, 500 soldiers equipped with plate armor, if we use them as a fist unit and concentrate on capturing a certain point on the walls, with the follow up units following quickly, with the numerical advantage, we will be able to take the Thorn Fortress in no time.”
“Well ……”
Samar hesitated, 500 soldiers equipped with this plate armor? This was indeed a sizable force, knowing that the entire Kingdom of Aldo probably hadn’t manufactured more than 300 sets of plate armor in the last 100 years, most of the plate armor had been passed down from father to son, from son to grandson, and had been passed down by the knights or nobles as if they were family heirlooms.
Seeing that Samar seemed a bit moved, Scott continued, “Lord General! My enchantment has another benefit. The equipment to which the enchantment is applied still maintains its original weight, an enchanted leather armor still weighs the same as leather armor, and will not be as heavy as plate armor.”
“Alright!”
This last statement eventually appealed to Samar, having a defense as perverse as plate armor, but as easy as wearing leather armor, making Samar himself want to try it himself.
He turned to an officer beside him and ordered, “Within three days, pick 500 strong and fit soldiers, and in five days we’ll send an attack.”
The officer immediately stood up and responded:
“Yes, my lord.”
Scott revealed a satisfied smile, “Your Excellency the General is wise!”
If the Thorn Fortress was captured with his assistance, his position within the organization would rise another level.
Thinking about this, Scott was secretly pleased.
……
Five days later, the big bell used for warning in the Thorn Fortress was constantly ringing, the rebels were finally going to start attacking.
Within these few days, the rebel scouts entered the fortress’s alert area more and more frequently to probe the situation, and Lester personally caught several of them while patrolling. But none of them found the kind of situation that the injured scout had described.
The enemy’s more and more frequent scouting made the Thorn Fortress tense up and down, even though they knew that this day would come sooner or later.
On the day of November 15th, the scouts returned with fire that a large force of rebels had entered the alert area and were coming straight for the fort.
The Duke of Dodge immediately ordered the alarm to be sounded, and the whole army to be ready for battle, and the fort was immediately put into a state of bustle.
The Duke personally led the two men, Klein and Lester, up to the city wall to command the battle on the spot.
It didn’t take long before they saw the rebel flag.
“Since the last time we sneaked in during the night, they’ve never had this many people come over at once!”
“It looks like they’re coming for real this time.”
“It’s really hateful, if it wasn’t for that plague last year, it wouldn’t be so bad that I, as a Duke, only managed to put together a mere few thousand troops.”
The three of them whispered, and although the atmosphere was incredibly tense, everyone’s eyes were resolute, without the slightest bit of fear.
Duke Dodge drew his own sword and held it high in the air, the ancestral sword glittering under the sunlight.
“Gentlemen! For the Kingdom!”
Klein and Lester also drew their swords and raised them high in the air, clinking with the Duke’s sword.
“For His Majesty the King! For Her Highness!”
The three of them shouted out their determination to kill the enemy together, “Swear to destroy the rebels!”
……
Not far to the south of the fortress, the rebels were already in attack formation.
Samar had brought a total of 10,000 soldiers in order to launch this attack.
In order to keep an eye on the Thorn Fortress, the number of soldiers that Giles had allocated here was still a lot, and even though the previous plan wasn’t to attack the fortress, it was still necessary to defend against the northern kingdom’s army’s southward movement.
Although the grain silos of Jingyao were burned, no one could guarantee that the royal family still had food stored elsewhere, so the defense force in this direction still could not be understaffed.
Six siege wagons stood morosely, from their appearance they still seemed new, this was something that the rebels had rushed out in five days.
When the attack began, there would be soldiers braving the bows and arrows shot from the fortress to push them to the edge of the wall, then the ladders on the cars would be put on the wall, and the attacking soldiers would risk their lives to ascend the ladders and burst into the wall to fight the defenders.
Underneath one of the siege cars, the wizard Scott stood in an angular position, looking smug, as if he had already won.
“Finally, I’ve waited for this moment!”
“History will remember this moment! Because this will be the starting point for my Lord Scott to take off!”
A number of figures could be seen above the fortress, the defenders reacted quickly and had already taken up their positions, it looked like they had been training for this moment for quite a few days.
But the sorcerer did not put them in his sights.
“And you, through and through, will be my sacrifice! A sacrifice to the Secret Society!”
