Chapter 100 Barnett
Chapter 100 Barnett
At this time, Fort Bailan had become a large barracks, and one after another, the men and horses attached to the Kent family converged here.
The nobles and knights who arrived first hunted or held jousting tournaments every day, and the previously silent Fort Bailan became noisy.
On this day, Earl Kent held a banquet in the castle hall for the family vassals who had already arrived.
While drinking the wine of the feudal lord’s house, the people cursed the lord of Alda and expressed their intention to clean up this wild and insolent boy for the feudal lord.
The reason for war that the Count gave to the vassals was not that the other side had refused some of his “demands”, but under another banner:
Paul Greiman, the lord of Alda, put Myron Garnard, the lord of Bairdine, under house arrest, and sent his troops to occupy the whole territory of Bairdine by force, and Viscount Angelo, the chief seal of Bairdine, fled to Emden to seek help, and of course, the Kent family couldn’t just sit back and watch this kind of overbearing and bullying behavior of the Greiman family.
Angelo was also invited to the banquet.
Since the last meeting to open the price, the count has never summoned him, his request for a visit have all fallen into the sea, Angelo’s heart is getting heavier and heavier, day by day more and more desperate.
Just when Angelo thought that the Earl of Kent intended to dishearten him by ignoring him and then leave him alone, and he was indeed disheartened and began to pack up his things, looking for another place, the Earl sent someone to notify him to meet him at the castle.
At this meeting Angelo was told the news that the Kent family had decided to send troops to Arda to teach Paul Greiman a lesson about bullying.
Angelo immediately had the feeling that the clouds in the sky had lifted, the count’s face did not stink as much as before, and the castle was not as gloomy as before.
The next series of actions of the Kent family convinced him even more that the earl was going to use force, the knights and militia began to gather towards the Bailan Castle, if the earl was still perfunctory, there was absolutely no way that he could have made such a big show.
Now he feels that Maltz Kent is more dear to him than his own father.
Before this feast began, he was told to be fully prepared, and Angelo took it to heart and drafted in his stomach for days.
Once the banquet began, in his impassioned speech, Paul Gleiman had become a tenuous bastard, spurring some of the guys whose brains had been burned out by chivalry (and there were still some of those guys) into righteous indignation and a call for war.
Count Maltz-Kent sat on the first seat with narrowed eyes, sipping his “drink” while watching Angelo’s performance.
The effect is good, huh? I’ll see what you’ll do this time, Greiman.
Just as he started to think about how to distribute the spoils of war, the butler quietly walked over and whispered in his ear, “Master, Dr. Barnett is here.”
Earl Kent was so shocked in his heart that the glass in his hand almost fell to the ground when he couldn’t hold it.
He hurriedly asked, “Did you invite him in?”
The butler nodded his head repeatedly and said, “I remembered your instructions and have asked him to wait for you in the small parlor at the back.”
Earl Kent nodded as he turned around and beckoned towards his son.
Jaaius quickly made his way to his father’s side, only to hear him say, “You will host the banquet for me, I have important business that must leave me for a while.”
After saying this he got up and hurried away without waiting for Jaaius to respond.
Jaise looked at his father’s back with a puzzled expression. In the past, when his father talked about “important matters”, he would always look for himself to discuss, but what happened today?
……
The Earl of Kent almost jogged to the door of the small parlor, he did not push the door to enter, but first stood outside the door to straighten his clothes.
Then he instructed the butler: “Go and find ten guards and personally lead them to guard this place, no one is allowed to approach.”
“Yes, Master.” The butler immediately went to find the guards.
After feeling that everything was in order, the earl reached out his hand and gently pushed open the door. A man clad in a black cloak was inside standing in front of a fresco, seemingly admiring it. He happened to have his back to the door of the parlor room, and even when the door opened, the man had no intention of turning around.
Earl Kent closed the door of the parlor behind him, bent down to bow to the man, and greeted him softly, “Mr. Barnett, it’s been a long time.”
The Earl’s posture and voice at this moment was indescribably humble and respectful, and if others who knew the Earl, such as Angelo and Emerson, or even the Earl’s own son, Jia Ace, had heard that he was able to speak with such a posture and in such a tone of voice, they would have absolutely shocked their own eyes out.
Only then did the cloaked man slowly turn around and remove the hood covering his head, revealing his face.
This was a stocky man in his forties, not a single hair on his bare head, instead there was a strange tattoo pattern, these tattoos extended downwards, passing through his face to form a pattern again, and then continued to extend downwards into the collar of his coat.
The tattoo pattern was a bit like some kind of writing, or some kind of symbol, revealing a weirdness everywhere.
The man’s eyes revealed a kind of indifference, a kind of indifference that regarded other people as nothing, in short, he gave people the feeling that it did not match with the profession of “healer” at all.
“Maltz, long time no see.”
The cloaked man responded, his voice thick.
Only then did Earl Kent straighten up and walked over to the man he called “teacher”, named Barnett, and said, “Teacher, please sit down and talk.”
The man named Barnett nodded and walked over to his seat and sat down, Count Kent then sat down across from him.
Without waiting for Earl Kent to speak again, Barnett said first, “Maltz, your physique and spirit are quite a bit better than when I last left.”
Earl Kent smiled and said, “Thanks to your careful guidance, Teacher, the ‘secret techniques’ you taught me are just too useful, I now feel like I’m getting younger and younger as I live.” A hint of gratitude was revealed in his voice.
Unexpectedly, Barnett said: “I still have to remind you, everything is too much, if you follow the method I taught you to practice the ‘secret art’ step by step, naturally you can achieve your wish, the least you can also be strong and healthy, prolong life. But if you are greedy for more and drink too much, and rush to achieve success, it will bring unimaginable disasters to yourself, and even jeopardize your family, and in the end ……”
Barnett said word for word, “You wouldn’t be who you are now!”
“I know, I will honor your orders, teacher.”
Earl Kent promised repeatedly, yet inwardly, he did not quite agree with his teacher’s words.
Barnett asked again, “When I came over, I saw quite a few people gathered near your castle? Did something happen?”
Earl Kent replied, “Nothing major, just cleaning up an ungrateful little lord.”
Barnett asked, “So, you’re going to attack another territory this time?”
Earl Kent honestly admitted, “Yes, teacher.”
However, the other party’s next words made him very puzzled, “Maltz, stop this military operation at once, I came to the northwest with a mission, don’t you give me any extra trouble.”
Earl Kent hastily asked, “Why?”
But he then reacted, “Could it be? Could it be ……”
What the other party said proved his suspicion, “Yes, the ‘Secret Society’ is going to strike in the Northwest.”
