Chapter 98 – The Cocoon of the Nightmare Butterfly
Chapter 98 – Nightmare Butterfly’s Cocoon
Ada let go of the old madman and rushed over.
The man called Jaycee turned back, full of concern, “What’s your hurry, I’m just helping you see how Penny is doing.”
“You don’t need to worry about Penny!”
Ada rushed up and grabbed the other man by the collar and yanked him over, her other fist hanging in the air as if she was going to punch him next.
Jaycee didn’t dodge or get annoyed, pulling his mouth into a laugh, “You go out every day, so you lock Penny in the house every day. I’m just teasing Penny so she doesn’t get too bored alone.”
Ada really wanted to swing her fist up this time.
But he couldn’t beat Jayce.
Saul set up the old maniac and looked on from the sidelines.
That Jayce was all scruffy, his hair and beard tangled, but his bare arms were quite muscular.
And that was covered with scars, and it looked like someone who had lived on the edge of a knife.
Although Ada was still quite strong, he was immediately much shorter and thinner standing in front of Jayce.
This was probably the reason why Ada was so vocal, but his fists didn’t really dare to swing up.
Fortunately, that Jaycee saw that Ada’s eyes were red, smiled sarcastically and slapped Ada’s hand away, “Alright, I’ll go, I’ll go okay?”
He left the huffing and puffing Ada where she was and casually tugged on his collar while passing by Saul and the old madman.
He glanced at Sol, who was all worn out, and rolled his eyes in passing.
“The great and good has brought home another one.”
Saul’s eyes followed Jaycee as she left the small courtyard before turning back.
Ada was at that moment picking at the window with the same motion Jayce had just made, talking to someone inside.
It was only after a while that he turned around somewhat depressed and saw Saul still dragging the old lunatic standing at the entrance of the courtyard.
Ada commanded Saul to drag the old lunatic into the house closest to the gate, while he went back to unlock and drill back into the house first.
Saul dragged the old lunatic into his room and found it dark as hell.
The old madman lived in a room with no furniture and all of his belongings were cluttered together.
Saul looked around and placed the old lunatic on a piece of mattress with exposed grass stalks.
The old man gave up struggling and muttered something about “savagery” and the “evil spirit” rolled over and snored.
Saul stood still, not leaving immediately, and asked softly, “Are there savages here, too?”
The old madman’s only response was a loud snore.
Saul was certain that the old madman wasn’t as crazy as he looked, and that Captain Jeff was afraid that he had noticed something as well.
If it wasn’t for the savage in the old lunatic’s mouth who was also mentioned by Senior Nick, Saul was afraid that he wouldn’t even care if he was pretending to be crazy.
Saul looked back at the gate, there was no one else in the courtyard at the moment and Ada had run to his house to deliver something.
A thin black tentacle reached out from the back of Saul’s neck and gently tapped the old madman on the back.
The tentacle spread up the old maniac’s spine a little and gently nudged his neck.
The old madman seemed to be really asleep, his snores didn’t change much, and the rise and fall of his body was smooth.
Algae returned to Saul’s side and gently shook the tentacle tips.
This was a sign that it hadn’t found any evil spirits or grudges.
Little Algae was more sensitive to spirits than Sol.
While Saul still needed to enter a semi-immersed meditative state to see some obvious spirits, Koho relied solely on his instincts towards food to find even just a little bit of large soul fragments.
It seemed that there was nothing unusual about this old madman for the time being.
Saul told Little Algae to shrink back and took a step away from the old madman’s house.
He walked out into the yard, and when he looked up, he saw a window that was boarded up horizontally in the house that Ada had just entered.
In the crack of the window, there seemed to be a pair of silver eyes that were staring at him without blinking.
Saul locked eyes with those eyes for a moment, only to feel that those eyes were so cool, like a clear spring in the forest.
However, if you really reached in, you would find that it was so deep that you couldn’t see the bottom.
“Saul, come on in. If you stand there for too long, you’ll be thought to be taking someone’s things.” At this time, Ada came out and had already taken off her sweaty top and greeted Saul over.
“Ugh, okay.” Saul answered, and when he looked over to the window again, he could no longer see the eyes.
He walked slowly towards the house where Ada was, a hint of anticipation rising in his heart.
The house was simple, with no dividing walls like Saul’s quarters. There was a large bed built of wood in the house, close to the wall. Both ends were blocked tightly.
The bed also had a cabinet standing against the wall, with several thumb holes drilled in the doors and side walls of the cabinet.
It was as if the gap had been intentionally left open.
As Saul looked over, a silver eye suddenly appeared behind one of the holes.
That eye wavered and turned into a dry, cracked and peeled lip.
Ada spread a bit of weed onto the only short wooden table in the room, then shook out a torn shirt and covered it with weed.
“It’s almost dark, so you’ll sleep here tonight. Usually don’t wander off after dark.”
“By the way,” Ada turned to the cupboard behind her and called out, “Penny, come out here. Meet a big brother who used to be our neighbor oh.”
“Squeak-“
A shrill sound rang out as a tiny girl, like a kitten, burst out of the large cabinet on the bed.
She groped her way to the edge of the wooden bed and looked up in Ada’s direction, revealing a pair of silver, nebula-like eyes.
“This is Penny, she was three last time you saw her. It’s getting better looking now, isn’t it?”
Penny wasn’t really good looking to say the least.
Her skin was yellow, her face was sunken in, and her hair was as thin and yellow as weeds.
But her silver eyes were really pretty, and made you feel like you wanted to wallow in them.
As Sol stared into Penny’s eyes, the diary suddenly flew out.
[Sol Calendar 316, April 11, Sunny
It’s such a nice day.
Your luck is good, too.
How did you find a Nightmare Butterfly’s cocoon?
Do you want to live with nightmares from now on?
Then I suggest you gouge out those eyes~]
Ada giggled, suddenly realizing that Saul’s eyes were staring unblinkingly at Penny, his face solemn.
“Hey..! Saul, you’re not allowed to hit on her!”
Saul then reluctantly averted his eyes and met Ada’s eyes as if she had her tail stepped on, “What are you babbling about, isn’t Penny just ……7 years old? I was just wondering what happened to her eyes.”
“Can’t see. When I first ran out of the village, I had been carrying Penny on my back and didn’t notice when she was injured. When I found out, it was already too late, and after the wound healed, it became like this, but it’s quite pretty.”
Ada seemed to be used to being asked and spoke calmly as he walked over and slipped Penny some food.
Penny, however, didn’t want it, pushing her brother’s hand away and staring straight at Saul.
‘She …… really can’t see at all? “Saul walked over as well, reaching out and waving his hand in front of Penny’s face.
Penny just stared at Saul’s face and didn’t dodge or blink.
“Brother Saul!” The little girl suddenly crunched out.
“Hello, Penny.” Saul bent down, looked down at Penny, and smiled in greeting.
“Brother Saul!” Penny called out again.
Ada pulled away from Saul at that moment and quipped, “No way, Penny, you remember him?”
Penny smiled in embarrassment and backed up backwards into the large closet.
Ada completely ignored the odd sensation between Penny’s actions and grumbled with some indignation, “She only calls me Ada and not my brother, what makes her so nice when she sees you?”
Seeing Saul shrug his shoulders with a look of innocence, Ada repeated herself.
“No hitting on my sister!”
Fourth shift!
