Chapter 903: Beneath the Rift
Chapter 890 Beneath the Cleft
Sol lets Ann continue her collecting journey, then transforms into a feather and floats underground.
He didn’t take a more rapid method of sinking, as the concept of a bottomless pit that Ann mentioned, and the large amount of inert black powder in the soil, made Saul move cautiously.
A feathering spell that consumes almost no magic to maintain.
After descending about a hundred meters, Saul noticed that the rift had not narrowed, and was about the same width as the rift he had seen when he had just dropped to the ground.
Descending another hundred meters, he found the remains of a half-white bone monster in the soil aside, and then commanded Algae to gnaw out the bones embedded in the stone cracks.
Algae enjoyed the work immensely, and found treasure-like pleasure in it, and searched the crags on either side without Saul’s command.
Because Saul was not descending fast and Algae’s mouth was sharp, he soon gnawed out a few more pieces of the white-boned monster’s remains.
It was just that Saul soon didn’t have the energy to pay attention to Little Algae’s movements.
After descending five hundred meters again, a palpitating feeling suddenly ran into his brain.
He slightly lowered his head and looked at his feet.
If this fissure with no visible bottom really ran through the entire continent, what was underneath the continent?
And what did this new space represent? Why did Xander’s ancestors possess the key to this place?
Out of caution against the Black Tide, Saul had never deliberately explored the truth of the entire chaotic domain. But now that he needed more white bone monsters to fight against Frim’s strength, and now that he happened to find this rift, he naturally wanted to try exploring it.
Just like in the Lost Cloisters, the magic was absorbed and was nowhere to be found.
Thor continued to descend, he didn’t realize how far he had fallen.
Because there was nothing here but some white bone remains, it was no longer that important compared to the secret of this rift.
Otherwise there was no way to explain the Kuroshio contamination that filled this place up and down the continent – even though it had inerted into black powder.
“How did a crevice this deep suddenly appear here? Could this place have been attacked by a fourth-order sorcerer at one point, or is it something else?”
He stomped slightly harder on the bottom of his foot, then …… didn’t budge.
The bottom was still pitch black, and the sunlight above his head couldn’t shine here in the slightest. And Saul’s spiritual power still couldn’t probe to the end.
He used his magic power to try to explore the bottom.
Because of the darkness, as well as the lack of contrasting objects around, the concepts of time and space began to blur.
Saul had already made guesses in his mind as to what kind of world the chaotic domain was and what continent it belonged to.
The body felt like it had come to the bottom, but the mental power didn’t see it that way.
Just like what Ann had said, it was as if this place was a bottomless chasm, and all that could be gained by continuing to descend was still only continuing to descend.
“The Lost Cloister’s material is the same as here? Or is it the same source?”
If the chaotic domain was just a continent, then it had a limited area and should have a limited depth.
But in his spiritual perception, this place should be empty.
Then should he continue descending?
Saul didn’t hesitate, he chose to continue.
He suspected that this might be the unlucky continent that was directly swallowed by the Eye of the Abyss back then.
Saul stopped, then casually sat on the ground.
Saul didn’t know how long he had been descending again when suddenly the soles of his feet seemed to have stepped on something.
Although this place was dark, and although it had descended deep, deep, deep, it was still a chaotic domain, with no enemies around, and elemental particles floating lazily in the air.
Instead, it formed a quiet, safe dark room.
This kind of dark room was perfect for meditation and for sinking one’s mind into thought. “Magic power will be absorbed, and spirit power can penetrate. Then if one uses the out-of-body method, one should theoretically be able to pass through this compartment.”
But Saul was in no hurry to try.
“This place is full of black tide pollution after all, even the inert ones can’t be treated casually. It’s also not proper to risk an out-of-body soul here. Let’s try it out first.”
Saul thought of the time he had used his fate line in the Lost Cloisters to pass through a right-angled gap between two corridors, and also found Stuart, who had been secretly imprisoned by Flim Flam, inside.
Perhaps a gap could be found here as well for the Fate Line to pass through.
This time, Saul carefully weighed the feasibility of the scenario and felt that he could give it a try. Moreover, the fate line ran faster than the soul body, and could be evacuated in time when it encountered danger.
Saul probed his hand in the darkness and gently pressed it on the ground where he was sitting.
This ground was smooth and level, unlike land, even stone bricks couldn’t be made this smooth.
It was like a layer of glass, or a plastic film.
Saul tried to tap the membrane with his fate line. Then felt the touch as if he had struck the glass with his finger.
He pushed a little harder, and the fate line no longer penetrated through.
“If it’s a complete compartment, I’m afraid my current fate line can’t break through. There’s no gap?”
Saul poked out countless fate lines from the palms of his hands, spreading them around the gap and soon covering a ten-meter radius of space.
“The black powder here will more or less isolate the range of spiritual probing, and probing further away will be more consuming.” Saul stood up, and he decided to measure the bottom of the crevice once more with his feet.
The bottom layer of the rift was not a cone, it was still a long crack, and even the width was the same as the upper surface.
This confirmed what Saul had thought from the beginning: that it was a cracker that had completely broken off and was trying to get closer together, leaving a gap.
Compared to the breadth of the entire continent, this crack, which was less than five meters wide, was really like the gap left in the middle of the two halves of the cookie when they came back together.
And this membrane in the layer below the land is somewhat like the glue …… used to stick the cookies!
“It’s better to be cautious, don’t tear the glue and let the chaotic domain have any more problems.”
Considering the stability of this continent of the Chaotic Domain, Saul didn’t try to violently break open the diaphragm under his feet, but instead walked forward in one direction while using his fate line to continuously test the bottom, looking for any gaps that might exist.
After walking underground for nearly another hour, just as Saul was pondering whether or not to go up and report to Anne before continuing his search, one of his fate lines suddenly disappeared by a hair.
Saul hastily sensed the location of that section of the fate line, and surprisingly, it was about a meter inside the mountain at his side.
There, the diaphragm had a small crack. It was very small, perhaps as big as the tip of a needle, and it was only with the near-deathless scanning and probing of the fate line that he was lucky enough to find the crack.
“It’s no less difficult than threading a needle with your eyes closed. Algae, bite through it!”
The fissure was pressed by the mountain, and fortunately it wasn’t too far from Sol, so Little Algae was able to easily open up a passageway.
After opening up a fist-thick channel, Saul’s spiritual power was able to scan the state of the rift more clearly.
Like the smooth diaphragm beneath his feet, there was a smooth compartment beneath the mountain, or continent. This compartment might even be spread out underneath the entire chaotic continent.
Sol took a deep breath and carefully followed his senses along the vanishing thread of fate to explore the world beneath the diaphragm.
Then, he snapped his eyes open.
After passing through the chasm beneath the rift, it was as if he had arrived in an infinite universe!
Quiet, vast, while surrounded by indistinguishable distances …… starlight twinkling.
