Chapter 817.

Chapter 817 Rotten Tail
After Alfonso’s soft introduction, the underwater coral seemed to hear the sound and timidly raised its head, looking towards the surface.

This also allowed Sol to get a good look at her face, which was covered by her red hair.

Surprisingly, he had a sense of immediacy of seeing the little mermaid in a fairy tale.

The top of the mermaid’s skull and lower jaw named Coral were a bit narrower compared to ordinary people, but it could already be called a melon face.

She possessed the same red eye pupils as her hair, which glittered like rubies.

However, before Sol could continue to admire the mermaid’s appearance, the latter flipped backward in the pool of water with a tilt, revealing the lower half of her tail.

Sol immediately frowned.

The coral’s fish tail, surprisingly, had half of it rotted off.

Her tail was greenish-colored, like a clear sky after a rain, but it was missing most of it, revealing the tailbone and a large amount of rotten flesh that had soaked white in the water.

There were also scattered chunks of meat attached to the tail by tiny threads of flesh that seemed like they could be ripped off with a hard struggle.

The translucent tail fin clearly reflected a colorful halo of light like a mother-of-pearl, but it was also much more chipped and tattered.

In short, it looked like it hurt.

“Is this the Kuroshio contamination you were talking about? Its surface features aren’t quite the same as the Kuroshio pollution I’ve seen before.”

Alfonso said seriously, “The possibility of other items causing the contamination has been tentatively ruled out. As long as they stay in seawater with Kuroshio, the contamination will increase.”

If Alfonso wasn’t lying, there was a real possibility that the Kuroshio pollution was causing the decay.

“Well, Kuroshio pollution manifests itself in a variety of characteristics, so maybe this is an emerging one.” Sol didn’t put words in his mouth.

“I’m naming this contamination disease ‘rot’.”

Saul nodded, “Very graphic.”

“The first case of rotten tail disease was Coral. Because she’s a returning mermaid, we’re paying more attention to her. It could also be because of the return of ancestry, causing her to be less tolerant of black tide pollution than the current merfolk. Luckily, we discovered the disease in time and found out that it was contagious, which made it possible to quarantine all the sick mermaids before the disease broke out on a large scale.”

Saul then observed the other mermaids and realized that they also had rotting tails, but the one with the highest degree of decay was still the coral.

“I’d like to take a bit of her diseased tissue.”

Alfonso didn’t object, “That’s fine, but you have to be careful, these mermaids are very wary of wizards and may struggle very violently if they scare her, she’s the first patient, we can’t let her die just yet.”

“Don’t worry, I’ve been a healer for a few years as well.” Saul took off his sorcerer’s robe and casually threw it on the sand behind him.

He then jumped into the water, entering so silky smooth that the surface only rippled shallowly.

Alfonso stood on the shore holding his arms and watching Saul’s movements, wondering what came to mind and somewhat stunned.

When Saul entered the water, the mermaids in the water that were fighting for food immediately panicked and hid in the crevices of the rocks.

But strangely enough, the coral that should have been equally fearful of humans remained where it was, and there was a hint of curious closeness in its gaze as it looked at Saul.

When Saul approached, the coral even swam towards him.

At this distance, Saul acutely realized that the coral’s mental body was slightly stronger than the other fish. Perhaps it was due to the return of her ancestors, her intelligence was closer to that of a small human child.

After Coral approached Saul, she stretched out her hands and pulled one of Saul’s arms.

“Is it because of Floco, there are remnants of Floco’s spiritual energy in me, making her closer to me?” Sol ventured a guess.

The Water God Floco was the Green Scale Race, and with the return phenomenon occurring in Coral’s body, she might be more familiar with Floco’s spiritual energy.

Sol reached out and transformed into a translucent tentacle that covered Coral’s half-rotted fish tail.

It didn’t hurt, and Saul took a few samples from the coral and wrapped them in his tentacles to retrieve them from his body.

Because the contamination on the coral was still unknown, Saul cautiously isolated the samples from his body.

After taking the samples, Saul once again swept over Coral’s spiritual energy, looked at the other party’s large ruby eyes, and raised his hand to gently caress the other party’s cheek.

There were tiny scales on both sides of Coral’s cheeks, which were smooth in their coarseness to the touch.

Coral closed her eyes, like a kitten, just short of making a “purring” sound of enjoyment.

Saul carefully examined the coral’s body structure and turned around to float up. The coral opens its eyes in confusion and even swims a few meters after Saul.

Just then, she suddenly saw a small black tentacle emerge from the back of Sol’s neck.

The tip of the tentacle grinned, revealing a black tongue.

“Pfffffffffffffffffffffffffff ……”

The small algae spat out its tongue and a string of bubbles came out of its mouth.

Coral’s eyes widened and she reached out to glean the black tentacle, but in her afterglow, she saw the brooding man in the water not far from her.

Coral moved and shrank her shoulders, seemingly in fear, then with a flick of her tail, she fled and burrowed back into the depths of the waterhole.

Saul didn’t pay attention to the movement below, and could only sense that Coral gave up after chasing after her for a while.

He climbed out of the clear, cold pool of water, used sorcery to clean off the excess water and stains on his clothes, and put on the sorcerer’s robes that he had thrown aside.

“How did the coral get so close to you?” Alfonso had long since watched in awe, and couldn’t wait to ask as soon as Sol was out of the water.

“It’s probably because I have a mermaid with me as well, and she finds the scent more familiar.” Saul said casually, “And it’s only natural that I, a healer, should know how to pacify my patients.”

Alfonso was thoughtful, “Can you teach me how to pacify a mermaid?”

“You need to pacify mermaids too? I thought your ruling court was used to solving problems with violence.”

“That’s not violence, just necessity.” Alfonso retorted, but thinking of Saul’s method of pacifying mermaids, he softened his tone in a rare moment, “I can exchange my unique dark attribute sorcery with you.”

Saul rubbed his chin, “I’ll think about it.”

After seeing the mermaid, Alfonso’s introductory work for the day came to an end, and the next contact would have to wait until Saul understood the information and samples he had gotten from Alfonso.

Otherwise, without even knowing the underlying theory, there was no way for him to carry out further research.

Returning the same way, Saul didn’t need Alfonso to send him back, directly locating Kate and instantly moving back to his palace.

After returning to the palace, Saul didn’t wander around. The Judgment Court’s attitude towards him was still not too clear, so Saul naturally wouldn’t wander around and get himself into trouble.

After both Saul and Alfonso left, the cool moonlight shone on the beach as usual.

In the deep pool of water by the sea, a coral with red hair was swimming towards the deepest part of the pool.

Swimming to a depth not visible to the naked eye, she suddenly turned around and crashed into a rock.

Then her whole body disappeared into it.

The rock turned out to have a mechanism underneath it, not relying on sorcery, but only using colored seaweed algae, disguised as part of the rock.

Unless the patrolling sorcerers came down personally, their mental probes couldn’t tell that there was a problem here.

Behind the mechanism is a gap that only allows a mermaid to pass through, and keep swimming out of the gap, the coral came to a dimly lit cave.

She jumped out of the water, dragging her tattered fish tail with her, and crawled toward another pool of water on the opposite side of the cavern.

“Sister, don’t move, I’ll go over!”

A voice suddenly rang out in the cavern, bringing up a broken echo.

Coral’s face suddenly took on a spirit of anger, “Keep your voice down!”

Her voice was not loud, but her expression was enough to convey the message.

Another mermaid suddenly emerged from the opposite pool of water.

It was a male mermaid.

He looked almost exactly like Coral, except that his hair and eye pupils were turquoise blue, as deep and beautiful as aquamarine.

His name, too, was Aquamarine.

Second shift.
