Chapter 58 – The gentlest man is the scariest
Chapter 58 – The gentlest person is the scariest
“Book?” Saul drifted off, taking out a thin silk book from his satchel, “You gave me this book?”
“Well, a guide to the refining of corpses, I thought the knowledge on there would lead you to an interest in souls. I didn’t realize you were playing with witch body modification.”
“Pink Da is even more powerful than Mentor Kaz!” The realization popped into Sol’s head, “And he thinks highly of me.”
It was just that this appreciation of regard came from an unknown source, making Saul a little uneasy.
Saul realized something else, “At first, Mentor Kaz originally didn’t want to care about my affairs, but the next day he told me that Cid would leave the tower for a month. I thought at the time that Kaz was eccentric and erratic, but it turned out to be because there was Pink Da standing behind him! And Pink Da, helped me branch out from Cid and gave me time to grow.”
For a moment Saul’s mind recalled many things that felt alien when he was with Kaz.
And Pink Da thought Saul didn’t understand what he meant.
“Saul, sorcerous body transformation is only a momentary profit, the delving into the soul is the direction you should explore.”
His chest bandage cracked open a slit, and two fingers clipped a silken book out of it.
Another silk book.
Pink Da clutched the tome and handed it to Saul.
“Take a look at this book.”
Saul took the book in a hurry and realized that the pages were handwritten in fancy script.
Conjectures on Soul Carriers.
“If you find it difficult, you can read it together in connection with the book on corpses, I think you will gain a lot, and I look forward to your new insights.”
Saul instantly had the feeling of returning to the workplace.
Leader, I’m a newcomer ah, I can’t publish any valuable exposition ah!
“Understood, my lord, I will study well.”
“There’s no need to rush, these things, they’re enough for you to learn for a few years.”
Saul carefully pinched the book, afraid that he would tear it too hard.
At the same time, he was nervous.
Because he …… was ready to sue again.
Have a problem, find a backer.
“But my lord, I fought to the death to learn witch body transformation because I wanted to get out of danger as soon as possible.”
Sol stopped here.
He needed to observe Pink Da’s reaction to decide what to say next.
Pink Da’s silver eyes looked at Saul and listened patiently.
Saul’s throat shrugged a bit before he continued, “I have an enemy who is far too powerful than me, and if I don’t get strong soon, I will die by his hand sooner or later.”
Pink Da listened to Saul’s words, but looked up at the roof.
Sol didn’t know what the other was looking at and followed Pink Da’s line of sight as he looked up, but all he could see was the dark walls.
“Saul, there’s one thing you need to realize.”
Sol immediately looked back at Pink Da and listened intently.
“Powerful enemies, terrifying sorcery, bizarre spirits …… Saul, what is truly frightening is the unknown.”
“When you embark on the path of a sorcerer in the future, you will understand that compared to the danger of sorcery learning, the death threat of a second level apprentice is nothing at all.”
Saul’s eyes suddenly widened.
Pink Dalian knew exactly who his enemies were!
But Saul wasn’t really a twelve year old to be tempted by such a big pie.
To get a piece of the pie, first you have to make sure you don’t starve to death before then.
He didn’t know how dangerous the study of sorcery was, he just knew that if he couldn’t get rid of Cid, he wouldn’t have to think about his future studies.
Pink Da which was refusing to help Saul tackle the enemy directly.
Somewhat regrettable, but not unexpected.
“I see, my lord.”
Pink Da looked down, his eyes landing on the top of Sol’s head, “Why don’t you call me Pink Da anymore?”
But he didn’t wait for Sol to reply before continuing, “Use knowledge as a tool, not as a goal. You’re already strong, don’t get lost in the transformation.”
When he finished speaking, Pink Da stood on his tiptoes and waddled around Saul, “Go back and think about it, and by the way, don’t say you’ve seen me.”
Saul missed the point completely and blinked a bit as he turned to follow up, but saw a wall.
A wall?
Saul froze. He turned back again, but saw the door to his room in dorm 603.
How was he back in front of his dorm room door?
What a familiar scene!
Could it be that “Don’t say you’ve seen me before” is a spell for spatial teleportation?
He’s already back, so nature can’t catch up with him.
Saul had to walk into the room silently, still holding the book “Conjectures on Soul Carriers”.
The hourglass clock on the wall showed that it was already one in the morning.
No wonder the dormitory area was empty with no one in sight.
He placed the books Corpse and Soul side by side on the table, unable to figure out what Pink Da was doing to help him, to get Kaz to teach him, and to come and advise him in person today.
Love of talent?
Heh.
“Soul ……” Saul repeated the key word of the night.
“Knowledge is a tool, not a goal. My goal is to live and become an awesome wizard, not knowledge again.”
Saul still couldn’t figure it out and finally had to give up. “The bottom of the barrel is better to think about basic pursuits first. If you can’t do it next time you see Pink Da ask him to make it clearer.”
Saul had just put the two books away – he really couldn’t read them at the moment – when he heard someone knocking on the door outside.
“Knock! Knock knock!”
It was a bit loud and forceful.
Somehow, Saul could hear anxiety and a hint of fear in it.
He walked to the door, “Who?”
“Uh.”
Senior Byron?
Saul opened the door and it was really him at the door.
Byron didn’t immediately walk into Saul’s dormitory, but instead looked warily inside.
“It’s just me.” Saul whispered.
Byron immediately sidled in.
He waited for Saul to close the door before he crossed his throat.
“I got your signal, but ……” his pupils trembled, “I’m afraid to go over there.”
Saul then remembered that he had crushed a third vial and asked Byron for help.
A vial was worth thirty credits, and saving a life was worth a hundred credits, which was expensive.
“I spent thirty credits for nothing tonight.” Saul’s face was a bit ugly.
“Who exactly is your enemy? How did you make it back alive?”
Byron could recall his fear now.
He was standing in the corridor on the second floor of the East Tower, just one turn away from walking up the ramp.
He knew Saul was in danger and had promised Saul that he would make a trip over there, even if it meant collecting the body.
But that step, he just couldn’t take.
For the first time, the deaf and dumb big man beside him changed his position. The whole man cowered in the corner, head rushing down, arms covering his head, pouting and shivering.
It was a ridiculous pose, but Byron couldn’t laugh because he also wanted to borrow the pose.
Inexplicable fear made him keep his left foot on the ground and his right foot up for several minutes.
Then everything suddenly returned to normal.
Byron’s legs went numb and he nearly fell.
It was another moment before he walked up the ramp with an apprehensive heart, but there was no Saul in sight.
He wondered if Saul was dead.
Facing an enemy as terrifying as that, even if he was dead, it was normal.
Byron walked back to his quarters in silence.
When he found out that he was about to be promoted to a third level apprentice, he used to feel that he was incomparably powerful, and even planned a future life of going out on adventures with Saul.
But the experience he just had made Byron confused all over again.
He was about to be promoted, but in the face of fear, he was still weak, as if nothing had changed as before.
He stood silently in his dormitory until midnight, before gathering his courage and deciding to visit Sol’s dormitory.
To see if he had returned, if he was still alive?
But Byron didn’t realize that after facing that kind of fearful existence head on, Saul was still acting like nothing happened.
“Oh,” Saul answered Byron’s question calmly, “mistakenly, it’s not the enemy that showed up tonight.”
“Who is he?” Byron said impatiently.
“Do you really want to know?”
“No!” Byron immediately turned his head away, “I don’t want to know.”
His cheeks twitched violently.
As if trying to escape his body.
Looking at Senior Byron’s display of such fear, Saul suddenly sympathized with him somewhat.
At the same time, Saul was once again certain that Pink Da was an even more terrifying existence than his mentor.
Then who Pink Da was was actually no longer difficult to guess.
But Saul didn’t want to poke through this layer of windowpaper, and if he did, he might have to face the blood directly.
He is still small, can not afford that kind of burden.
But at the same time, Pink Da’s words also let Saul want to understand one thing.
Compared to Pink Da, and compared to his mentor, Sid really wasn’t much of a threat.
Although Pink Da was unwilling to take a direct shot at Cid, he had been watching Saul.
That being the case, instead of carefully guarding against the other party’s backstabbing all day long, it would be better to detonate this trouble ahead of time.
He was actually already very strong!
Well, what Pink Da said.
