Chapter 461: A Little Bit Different

Chapter 461 A Little Bit Different

Seeing the city of Kaukoust from the outside was a completely different feeling than living inside.

The carriage was traveling on a road that wasn’t exactly wide. Compared to the tens of stories of tall buildings casually on both sides of the road, the narrowness of the road made the originally magnificent buildings suddenly become depressing.

Especially when walking between two rows of buildings, huge shadows were cast down, and the bottom floor was dark, damp and gloomy.

And when you look closer, those tall buildings are not that grand either.

The windows are so small that an adult would have trouble getting through them.

The densely-packed windows were depressing, as if they were eyes hiding behind the walls, coveting everything on the street.

In stark contrast to these dense and depressing buildings, there were surprisingly not many people on the streets.

Occasionally, a few oddly shaped rickshaws sped by.

Saul swept a glance at them, and they seemed to move forward through gears and other machinery as well, but at a fast speed.

Marsh, apparently dazzled as well, couldn’t drive fast enough to keep up with the speeds he’d had in the wilderness, and was soon overtaken by the rickshaws.

Then there was a buzzing overhead, and Marsh looked up high to find a small airship flying by more than ten meters overhead.

As the sky grew dim, the tops of the black pillars on either side of the road suddenly lit up, startling the horses pulling the rickshaws.

Seeing this, Saul was also marveling and puzzled, ”Lighting equipment has magic power fluctuations appearing the moment it lights up. That means at the very least there is a magical infrastructure running through these blocks!”

If it was just a separate architectural facility like the Sorcerer’s Tower, it would be normal to use such magical equipment, but this was a city!
How on earth did Archaeust, or the Baidon Academy behind it, manage to use so much sorcery resources on ordinary people?

The underlying productivity of sorcery simply wasn’t enough, was it?
Five minutes later, Saul finally arrived at the destination located on the Guidebook’s map.

The Intermediary Center.

The Guidebook stated that this place was responsible for finding jobs, houses, spouses, and a host of other intermediary matters.

It is the first recommended place to go when you first enter Kaukoust City.

Even if you just come over for some sightseeing, you can find the right guide here.

The carriage had just parked under a particularly square tall building when Saul heard the faint sound of a zither coming from the tall buildings on both sides.

Immediately afterward, as if a switch had been flipped, the buildings on both sides simultaneously resounded with booming human voices.

A dark shadow drilled out from the exits of different houses, slowly converging on the street to form a dark torrent.

“This …… so many people?” Even the knowledgeable Agu was stunned by the sight before him.

Not only the buildings on both sides of them, but also the front, the tall buildings in front of them, and the buildings on the previous street, were all spewing outwards to converge on the crowd.

The originally not-so-broad street was suddenly packed to the brim.

As far as the eye could see, except for a few rickshaws, everyone else was actually traveling on both feet!
Most of the people who passed by were numb, only occasionally seeing a few vivid smiles when talking in low voices.

“This is concentrating all the population of the surrounding cities and villages into the city of Kaukoust.” Saul was still holding his chin, looking out of the car window, the scene in front of him, more or less evoking his previous memories.

“Concentrating a large number of people, extremely regular lifestyles, and utilizing novel readings to continuously attract people into the city …… The owner of this city has turned people into parts of the city. What is he trying to do?”

Agu listened to Sol’s analysis and said in a low voice, “The real owner of Archaeust City is Baidong Academy. And the current person in charge of Baidong Academy is their old dean, Pound, a second-ranked sorcerer.”

Baidong Academy was also selling various sorcery props to the outside world, and it was heard that as long as one had the money, even those who were not so well qualified in terms of magic and spirit power could become sorcerer apprentices.

Baidong Academy cast its nets widely, and the nets were filled with both sorcerer apprentices, and even ordinary people were not spared from these small fry.

“They’re afraid that they’re doing a big project.” At this time, the crowd coming out of the buildings on both sides had become sparse, so Saul jumped off the carriage, “There’s no use in thinking so much, we’re just a group of tenants looking for a house now.”

On the bright side, Marsh stayed put, and in the dark, there was actually a small algae detachment rooted into the soil to keep watch.

Saul only took the compressed traveling bag where he stored his important items and Agu, and the two of them entered the red square building on the right side.

After entering the building, Saul and Agu were again introduced to the gate that could be automatically guarded and required a pass to open.

Hatches that run up and down like an elevator, except they require a special person for hand crank control.

The piano, which just seemed to be off duty, saw few people inside the building now.

The “elevator” takes the two to the 20th floor, the top floor of the building.

The top floor was an oval shaped hall with hidden rooms on both sides. The center was empty, with only a few benches and a circle of counters around it. Posters and confetti were spilled all over the place, and someone was cleaning them up.

As soon as Saul entered, he saw a boy dragging a woman in an argument with a woman behind the counter, as if it was about the rent.

Another glance at the sign above the woman’s head behind the counter showed that it was indeed a rental area.

Saul then walked over to the adjacent counter and inquired, “Do you have any houses for rent to wizards over here?”

The man behind the counter was originally lowering his head and organizing information, when he heard the voice and looked up, he instantly revealed a wide smile and casually threw the things in his hand to the side.

“Of course, this lord, welcome to Kaukoust!”

After only ten minutes, Saul successfully obtained a key. The key was a copper leaf, but the pattern on it was constantly changing, and the pattern would only stop when Sol’s hand pressed on a certain spot.

The man who entertained Saul was attentive and sent Saul to the door.

Originally, he just took out a book of documents with his normal enthusiasm, who knew that when Saul chose a house and took out his silver passport to prepare for registration, the man’s complexion changed drastically, and his attitude actually doubled in respect, and he also took out another book of house information from the back of the room.

The house that Saul originally selected was the top floor of a tall building.

While the new house information the man took out was at least a villa.

Saul took a moment to look twice and compare the prices before choosing the original top floor.

It couldn’t be helped, the wizard tower had fallen down, and he still had a small wizard tower, four consciousnesses, and two pets to keep, so he had to economize on expenses.

Even though Saul didn’t choose a bigger and more expensive house, that agent didn’t lose the slightest bit, and took out a business card and respectfully handed it over with both hands when Saul left.

“This is my business card, which is my information. It has our transmission number here on it, so if you need anything in the future, you can find the agent center through the communicator in your room, and I can come to your home at any time.”

Such a familiar scene made Saul a bit nostalgic, and he took the other’s business card and looked down.

“About …… John ……” Thinking of a certain novel, Saul looked up and asked, “You wouldn’t be Little John the Farmer from the book, would you? ”

The man named John laughed nervously, “Actually, after the book was promoted, many people changed their name to John, hoping to be as lucky as him.”

Taking John’s business card, Saul once again declined the service of traveling in a flight cabin.

Nothing else, it wasn’t free.

Back in the carriage, Agu had been shocked beyond belief.

Saul looked calm on the outside, but was actually surprised on the inside.

If he hadn’t realized that the underlying logic of many props had the shadow of sorcery runes, he would have really thought that some extra all-powerful traveler had come here to be the city lord.

However, he finally confirmed that although certain things were similar, the essence was still much worse.

After returning to the wagon, Saul asked Algae to retrieve the doppelganger hidden underground, told Marsh the directions, and prepared to head to his new home.

However, as soon as the wheels were set in motion, Koho suddenly reached out from the back of Saul’s neck and purred headfirst into Saul’s face.

“Well …… Little Algae, what are you doing?”

Little Algae wrote a word crookedly in the air.

“Big tree.”

Several people came together at once.

“Big tree? What big tree? Which big tree?” Penny asked in a rambling voice.

“The word tree has a dot missing.” Agu said with a frown.

Thor was however struck by surprise, “Here, there doesn’t seem to be a tree in sight.”

He slowly lowered his head and looked at his feet.

“Did you say the big tree …… is underground?”

Finally catching up.
