Chapter 291: Infiltration
Chapter 291: Infiltration
Saul wasn’t sure if he had guessed correctly.
As a matter of fact, the Kemah Duchy and the Sorcerer’s Tower belonged to an alliance and shouldn’t be counting on Sol.
However, sometimes the relationship between allies could be complicated to an unimaginable degree.
Saul packed up his important things, but did not clean up the entire laboratory.
He intentionally left traces of use, and then sat quietly at the lab table as if he was studying sorcery.
Only before he sat down, he casually held up the wall. A small and inconspicuous crack was left there.
From day to night.
Black Castle didn’t have the habit of candle lights always on from morning to night like the Wizard’s Tower.
In fact, in order to save lamp oil, or just for convenience and saving time, not much lighting equipment was prepared here.
At night, the Black Castle is as dark as its name suggests. The silhouettes in the moonlight were reflected in the tops of the trees, which only made the civilians underneath them occasionally look up and think that they were blinking.
In the equally dark storehouse, a grayish-white hemisphere suddenly poked out from the bottom of a huge wooden box that had not been completely disassembled.
The sturdy wooden box did not cause any obstruction to it. It lengthened and stretched little by little, and the hemisphere revealed a pair of eyes.
It turned out that it was not a ball, but a hairless head.
The pupils of its eyes were extremely small, and the whites of its eyes occupied the vast majority of its eyeballs, the color of which could almost be mixed with its skin.
At first glance, it was as if the entire head, only the two black bean-like pupils were its eyeballs.
It slowly burrowed out of the gap at the bottom of the box, revealing its nose, mouth and chin, followed by its long neck.
It was always the neck.
No body.
Its very small pupils swung from side to side, observing the entire room in the darkness.
It then stared at the door of the room.
The neck continued to elongate, propelling the naked head to arch towards the door of the storehouse.
The doorway was narrow, but it couldn’t stop the head from burrowing out.
Easily leaving the storage room, the head peered left and right.
The storage room was at the end of the first level of the Black Fortress, and a back corridor came into view.
The human head looked from side to side, then opened its mouth wide, and a grayish-white tongue, like its skin, came out of the gap between its toothless lips.
That tongue was thin, but at the tip was a round ball. After leaving the lips, the tongue swelled and became larger. Especially the tip of the tongue was as big as the size of a human head.
That tip was suddenly cracked open with two slits, revealing a pair of eyes with extremely small pupils.
Immediately afterward, the tip split open a third slit, located below the eyes, as if it was a mouth.
That mouth similarly grinned, sticking out a long, thin tongue with a rounded tip. And after the tongue drilled out of the mouth, the same eyes and mouth grew.
At this point, the very first head stuck out a second tongue, followed by a third, and a fourth ……
And each tongue grew eyes and a mouth, and then the next tongue stuck out of the mouth.
Splitting off an uncountable number of heads began to make their way deeper into the corridor.
They continued to elongate along the floor and walls, their tiny black pupils fluttering softly in excitement, but making no sound.
Soon these heads spread over the entire corridor, gradually coming to the front hall on the first floor.
The antechamber where no guests had arrived was also dimly lit at this time. Those gorgeous chandeliers and exquisite wallpapers seemed to have changed their theme under the dim moonlight.
The first head came to the antechamber and explored forward, however it suddenly realized that it couldn’t advance any further.
Its pupils trembled as it turned to the corner of its eyes, and it saw that a black vine had wrapped itself around it.
“Demon …… ghost …… vine ……”
The grinning mouth finally uttered its first word.
It then ignored the vine’s entanglement and simply stuck out its tongue once more, releasing the next head.
Just like that, every human head that encountered the entanglement of the Devil Vine did not resist, allowing the Devil Vine to firmly entangle it.
However, they released their next tongue before the Devil Vine could seal their mouths, and continued to move forward, exploring the entire Black Fortress.
The Devil’s Vine that didn’t feel any resistance, perhaps treating these weird long-necked human heads as snakes, insects, rats, and ants sneaking in from the forest, didn’t send out an early warning to its temporary owner.
In the laboratory on the third floor of the Black Fortress, Saul was writing furiously. Suddenly his movements stalled for a moment, “An unknown intrusion was encountered and no warning was signaled?”
He looked sideways and whispered, “The other party came prepared and broke the most sensitive means of solving the enemy in Black Fort in a single glance. Then the rest of Black Fort’s protective capabilities may not be reliable.”
If it wasn’t for Saul’s control over the Devil’s Vine being far beyond the range of perception of the temporary master, I’m afraid that he wouldn’t even be able to notice if he was approached.
But now well ……
“If I kill my way out, can I defeat the enemy lurking in the shadows?”
The diary in his mind slowly unfolded.
[316th year of the Sakura calendar, September 5th.
A nasty visitor knocks on the door of your room.
A passionate host wants to keep him forever.
The guest sends a bouquet of flowers.
The host cooks fresh seafood.
A little back and forth between you and me.
You ask the guest to stay forever.
But unfortunately.
you passed by the second guest as well].
Seeing the contents of the diary, Sol froze for a moment.
He had just purposely given the diary his own thoughts on the enemy, wanting the diary to judge whether or not he would encounter a death crisis.
As soon as the diary appeared just now, he thought that he would not be able to defeat the visitor and might die at the hands of the other party.
This prejudgement really surprised him, after all, Saul thought to himself that a person who needed to sneak up on him couldn’t be a formal sorcerer, and a general third level apprentice, he was already completely unafraid of.
But when he read the content of the diary was not a death ending, he was even more surprised.
As the diary said, he did defeat the enemy. But it also meant that this time, the diary’s warning was no longer limited to death!
He had merely subdued the first guest while deterring the second, causing it to not dare to enter.
“The diary’s warning has been upgraded? In the future, it will no longer only give out alerts for death crises?”
In order to prove what he thought, Saul immediately changed his mindset again.
“What if I hide it?”
The diary reappeared with a few lines of text.
Still not a death warning.
“Sure enough ……,” Saul hooked a smile, “this is the first warning since the diary became a locator, so I didn’t realize until now that the way to trigger the warning had changed.”
As Saul and the diary deepened their connection, the diary was giving Saul more feedback.
“If I speak according to the diary’s inertia, I’m afraid that this matter of me missing the second guest will in the future affect me adversely in the future, I still need to find a way to find him out.”
“Knock, knock, knock!”
Just then, the door of the laboratory was suddenly knocked on.
Saul glanced at the door, and there seemed to be some kind of shadow swimming in the crack of the door, trembling gently.
“An uninvited guest has arrived yet.”
Saul smiled slightly, ignoring the late-night knock, turned his head, raised his left hand to fasten the hood of his cloak over his head, and continued to write.
“Swish swish swish ……”
The room was quiet, with only the sound of the pen tip rubbing against the paper.
Outside the door, the visitor gently knocked on the door with his own forehead, and every three knocks, he paused for a moment, grinning and waiting for the homeowner to open the door.
Around the door, on the floor, walls, and ceiling, there were dozens of other heads that looked exactly like the visitor, pressing against the doorway with the same expectant faces.
Pushing and shoving each other, they crowded around the doorway, their large white eyes with black pupils straining to look inside, and through the gap they vaguely saw a figure with its back to the heads of the crowd, covered in a cloak.
Their eyes were twitching, and they waited with great excitement.
Waiting for the owner of the house, to open the door for them.
Sorry, I’ve been running to the hospital for the past two days and I just don’t have any more saved up, so I’ll have to post it until this time, and try to get back to my normal schedule tomorrow.
