Chapter 250 – Replicating the Formation
Chapter 250 – Replicating the Phalanx
Nick’s state was very wrong.
Sol sized up the other man once more.
Nick couldn’t see a single hair on his entire body, and the already wide cloak on him could be used as a kite to hold him up.
The bloodshot eyes twitched twice every now and then, as if they were avoiding Saul’s sight.
“There’s always a price to pay for wanting to go further.” Nick tried to sound as relaxed as possible, but there were signals of tension radiating all around him.
“Can I help you?” Saul asked.
Nick, however, just shook his head, “What do you want with me?”
“Well …… is there any more Sound Grinding Fruit here, Senpai? I have an experiment that I need to use, and I want to buy some back.”
Nick’s pupils suddenly shrunk, and he subconsciously shook his head, “No, what do you need it for? It can only stabilize emotions for a short while, it’s not very useful.”
“I just need to borrow its ability to temporarily stabilize my emotions.” Saul was already vaguely aware in the registration room that someone seemed to be hiding something in the matter of the Sound Grinding Fruit.
From the way things were going, Nick was afraid that he knew something as well.
This was a muddy water that Saul originally did not want to get into. But if the Sound Grinding Fruit could really help him stabilize his soul and enter the consciousness platform ……
That concerns his path to promotion, even if he knows that there is a pit in front of him, he will have to barge forward.
Nick’s eyeballs were constantly turning, seemingly caught in a huge tangle.
Saul was certain that Nick must have the Sound Grinding Fruit in his hands, but what he was a little uncertain about now was whether this Nick, who didn’t seem to be mentally stable, was really willing to share some of it with him?
Would he be concerned about the benefits involved and reject himself?
At this time, Nick suddenly shortened his body and drilled under a cabinet, reaching out and struggling to make a strong grip inside.
Saul followed and waited for a short while before hearing a crunch and seeing Nick stand up in some distress.
He had just moved too quickly, and his arm had scraped hard against the underside of the cabinet as he reached underneath it.
When he drew his hand back, the top of his arm had been left with bright red marks.
Beads of blood bubbled up a little, and pooled into a strand to stay.
However, the injured Nick seemed to be oblivious, only focusing on shoving a flattened plank of wood into Saul’s hand.
“Here, give it all to you, and don’t come looking for me.”
Saul took the plank in his hand in shock, feeling the heavy weight in his hand that did not match the plank at all.
He looked up at Nick, “What do you need? Credits? Magic crystals? Or other materials?”
Nick, however, shook his head straight, “I don’t want them, these are for you, take them, don’t say I gave them to you, and I won’t admit it.”
Nick’s thin palm pressed on Saul’s shoulder and shoved him towards the door.
Saul didn’t resist, he could tell Nick was in a bad state. But Nick was clearly unwilling to talk to Saul in detail.
As soon as he pulled open the duct-taped door, he shoved Saul out.
“No need to be nice, I advise you to look after yourself!” As soon as the gate opened, Nick immediately said in an icy voice.
Nick pushed Saul all the way out the gate and didn’t say another word until their stare down was blocked by the closed gate.
Saul, clutching the plank in his hand, stood outside the door in a daze for a while until someone passed by at the other end of the corridor before turning to leave the place.
He always had the feeling that Nick actually wanted to say something to him at the end, but couldn’t, or didn’t dare, say it in the end.
Saul could only tuck the board in his hand under his robes and walk towards the dormitory as if nothing had happened.
He held the plank under his shirt with his fingers, heavy as if he was holding a person.
“If the sound grinding fruit is truly of no use to Nick, why would he purposely disguise something as a plank and hide it under the locker?”
Saul ran back to the dormitory and locked the main door before taking out the wooden board that hid the Sound Grinding Fruit.
He gently broke it with both hands, and the wood snapped from it.
The sound was crisp.
The inside of the wooden board was hollow, and along the cracked slit one could see the gray, flute-like fruit inside.
A row of six was placed in the wooden board.
Saul took out two and then subconsciously hid the remaining four as well.
“Getting nervous by Nick.” He hid the two sound grinding fruits in his sleeve.
At that moment, there was a sudden knock on the front door.
Saul immediately stood up and subconsciously gathered his sleeves.
“Who is it?”
“Me.”
The answer, needless to say, was Kori. Saul went over to open the door, and outside, Kori was still wearing her metal mask.
That mask seemed thicker.
“Are you staying in the second storage room from now on?”
“Uh, it’s been a bit busy lately. Want to come in and sit down?”
Sol tried to invite Kori in, but Kori shook her head.
“I had to rush to comfort my mentor, heard the door closing on your side and came over to check.”
“Comfort Mentor Guido? What happened to him?”
“It’s just that the latest toxin …… he researched was cracked by his good apprentice Billy, and his pride was bruised. By the way, you usually have quite a lot of ideas, have you ever thought of any metal with offensive properties besides sharpness and magnetism?”
“Offensive?”
Korrie puffed out her mouth – her mask cocked upwards a bit – and clasped her hands to her chest, “The toxin I created after days of experimentation was undone by Billy in one fell swoop. This time, I’ll make sure to find an area he hasn’t researched, so he can’t get cocky anymore!”
It turned out that he was provoked to win.
But could Billy’s gloomy face really make a smug expression?
“I don’t have a study in metallic sorcery.” Saul shrugged a little; he’d only memorized the periodic table of elements when he was in school, and had pretty much forgotten it.
“If you have to look for destructiveness in terms of metals ……,” Sol did think of a big killer, “it’s worth thinking towards radioactivity, but it’s dangerous, and it’s advisable not to until you have the ability to protect yourself before you perform hands-on maneuvers.”
“Radioactive?” Kori froze, she had heard of radiation, magical radiation, mental radiation, “What’s radioactive?”
Saul rubbed his chin, “I don’t know the exact principle, but certain metals in an unstable state are highly radioactive, releasing enough particles and radiation to kill. I also don’t know if there is any here.”
After saying that Saul had some regrets.
After all, it was two different worlds, perhaps the radiation encompassed by sorcery had already included those metal radiations.
And he just didn’t know it.
Different underlying rules might lead the worlds to completely different paths.
Saul was just saying it off the top of his head, but Kori seemed a little possessed.
She kept mumbling about radioactivity and left as if sleepwalking.
After seeing Korie off, Saul hurried back to the first floor of the East Tower.
He still had to make a deal with Wright tonight.
Entering the storehouse, Saul first checked over the candles in the storehouse to make sure that the number of candles burned was not less than one hundred.
Then goes through the corpses and valuables one by one and checks them against the treasury manual he made himself for accuracy.
Only after making sure that his work for the day would not go wrong and that his experiments would not be disturbed did Saul place the Sound Grinding Fruit and the spells he had gotten from Byron on the long table.
“Constructing a consciousness platform ……,” Saul mused, “Algae.”
Black tentacles darted out from the back of his neck and came up to Sol’s eyes.
“Next I’m going to start preparing for the experiment, if I forget the time, wait until seven thirty, you remember to wake me up.”
Algae bobbed his head up and down.
Setting the “alarm clock”, Saul picked up the quill and buried his head to put his whole mind into it.
Gradually, rolled into a ball of discarded paper in Saul’s feet piled up into a small mountain.
A quill was accidentally crushed because of too much force, and the pieces were lying in the corner of the table.
A huge piece of specially made parchment lay flat on the long table, and all the other materials were forced to give way to it.
With a wave of his arm, the ink bottle that had been squeezed into the corner of the table was knocked off in one fell swoop, before being rolled up and put back by a quick-eyed Komo.
Looking at Saul, who was completely oblivious to the movement over here, Seaweed helplessly shook off the ink splattered on her body.
Then while keeping an eye on the time, she stared at Sol’s busy figure.
Saul, who had been busy from the morning until the afternoon and hadn’t even eaten lunch, finally stopped moving.
“Finished.” Saul stood up straight, a bit in disbelief of his speed.
He looked up at the hourglass clock again – it wasn’t even seven o’clock yet.
Algae sees Saul stop and burrows over to him with a somewhat puzzled arch of his head, as if to ask, “Why did you stop?”
Saul raised his hand to touch the little algae’s bare head, feeling incredulous himself.
“I… I’ve already taken the consciousness platform’s spell formation and reproduced it.”
Sol: Excellent.
