57. Chapter 57: Open Book Examination
Chapter 57 Open Book Exam
In the eyes of outsiders, it was undoubtedly a comical thing for a necromancer to treat his summon like a friend.
Meno frowned.
Tooth and Shadow barely stifled their laughter, but the stern gaze of the Servant kept them in line with Nyssian etiquette.
Not that Heine cared about that.
He just understood himself.
As Guardian Iris said, the two did talk for a couple of minutes.
But they were interrupted before they could go through the first process.
That’s why Heine kept this matter in mind.
And he didn’t promise Meno directly, he just said he’d come up first.
Meno readily agreed, after all, this was a good opportunity to show his great strength to the recruited object.
He also mentioned Dylan.
So Heine walked over and extended an invitation.
Dylan scowled, “I’m not interested.”
Heine lowered her voice, “Don’t you want to build one yourself?”
Dylan looked at him in shock, then walked reluctantly to the elevated platform.
Then he shrank his fists, clenched from excitement, into his sleeve robes.
…
The floating city looked roughly in the shape of a square octahedron from the outside, slightly flatter.
The lower bottom was cut off at the tip, leaving an entrance and exit in the center plane.
Upon entering, what jumped into the eyes was the towering dome of obsidian brickwork, with dense silver runes floating above it.
The primitive religious style and the mysterious magical style were perfectly blended.
Eight Shadow Technicians wearing light purple robes were on either side, their heads slightly hanging down.
Several lines of sight fell on Heine.
Curious ones were there, contemptuous ones mostly, but more than anything else, they were jealous.
It was too naked.
They had a clear view from above here to below, and naturally saw the two men being intimate.
Heine ignored the sights as he detected a faint fluctuation of Yuan Spirit.
But not the ones enveloping the dome.
His gaze fell directly in front of him.
A black ball of shadow energy was held in check by silver arcs of light, and a black ball hovered silently.
Below it was an intricate spell formation outlined in purple lines, with two brass-colored metal plates embedded in each of the two long edges, and silver runes dangling above it.
It was here that the meta-spiritual fluctuations came from.
Compared to the magical maps in the Lion King’s Trade House and the Lord’s Mansion’s secret room, the device here had more of a retro flavor and less of an industrial texture.
This was what this world really looked like.
Heine admonished herself in her mind.
…
Catch the Goat: “If I’m not mistaken, this is an antique from the ground, isn’t it? Can they read it?”
Mr. Xia: “I don’t know wow, they had already switched equipment by the time I was chased.”
Mr. Sa: “What about Elder Brother Wei? Have you seen this thing?”
Wei Diankui: “I’ve seen it, it was dismantled when it was scrapped.”
Mr. Sa: “…… This is too hardcore.”
…
Between a few people chatting Maynor had proudly introduced on.
“The control hub of the Floating City is this piece of Shadow Essence, and controlling it is the control module that the Sanctuary researched on its own.”
As he brushed his hand over the metal plate, the runes above were projected onto the black sphere.
“This is the spell that is responsible for controlling the energy balance, and it is now sucking in particles of holy light from the neighborhood ……”
“This is the spell formation responsible for controlling floating, ahem, just now it was just an abnormal fluctuation ……”
Heine slightly moved closer with her senses, but was stopped by a thick wall.
The wall of isolation encompassed almost the entire Shadow Essence with the operating table.
Thinking about it, this was a “machine room”, how could it not be defended.
Shiala signaled with her eyes that he should not act rashly.
As the only level 5 caster here, her senses were strong enough to detect any movement.
But spare her some curiosity, Heine’s perception seemed to be different from others ……
Was it an illusion?
She looked to the runes above the metal plate.
Much like those.
…
Meno finished introducing the console, and then described each of the common amenities in the hall, and the intersections to the different rooms, but clearly had no intention of taking the crowd for a stroll.
Finally he stopped in front of a roaring, pitch-black flame.
This flat but huge black bonfire had flames nearly three meters high.
It wasn’t hot, but instead had a deep and ethereal feeling to it.
It was located in the center of each of the two halves of the hall, along with the Shadow Essence, and was surrounded by a simple fence.
It was more for the protection of the visitors than the facility.
“This is the Shadow Blaze Furnace, and the …… of all obsidian.”
Before Meno could finish his words, he saw someone jump in!
It was Guardian Iris!
“Come out!”
Heine wasn’t panicking at all in her heart, but she had to put on a liver and guts look on her face.
“Come out!”
Guardian Iris walked out dipped in black flames at his forced order.
Pitch-black bones, pitch-black soul fire, pitch-black flames.
He was blacker than Dylan’s raven. That bird at least had blood pupils.
But the flames quickly dissipated.
Mr. Sa was shocked, “Wei brother, don’t think about it, I know that the matter of crossing over is difficult to accept, but this may not be able to wear back ah ……”
Wei Temple Iris: “…… I want to learn skills, this is the only chance.”
Catching sheep: “Holy shit, so hardcore? Have a feeling?”
Guardian Iris: “That’s a must.”
Mr. Xia is a little stupid: “Could it be that the Shadow Cloak is also ……”
Mr. Sa: “My Xia alas, you use your brain ah! That color is all wrong!”
“It’s also ……”
…
The crowd was left with nothing but amazement after the shock.
They all recognized that this was the weird skeleton that had absorbed the Shadow Energy, and they didn’t expect it to be unafraid of the scorching flames of the Shadow Flames.
Shiala’s face was grave as she said, “Do you need me to check it for you? It doesn’t seem too safe.”
Heine stared at the dark soul flame of the Guardian Temple Iris:
“A similar situation will only appear in scenes that can cause him to recall, in the past, they didn’t have such a strong reaction, but this time it’s extra strong, I suspect that it’s the previous Shadow Energy …… No, the focus is on the Floating City!”
He looked to Meno excitedly, “Can I borrow your synergy beacon?”
With Xiara around, no one dared to refuse.
Soon, the props were brought over.
Guardian Iris shivered, but didn’t hide this time.
One beacon was strung around his skull like a head ring, and the other piece was attached to his own forehead by Heine.
A vague connection was established between the two.
If the Genin’s bridge was cast in steel and concrete, this was a few ropes covered with wooden planks with great gaps between them.
But it was barely functional.
Heine asked in his head:
“The pronunciation that indicates affirmation is …… If you can understand it, answer me with it.”
“Yes.”
Going through the process, Heine asked him directly:
“Shadow Blaze stirred up memories for you?”
Silence.
Guardian Iris: “He asked me ‘Did Shadow Blaze stir up your memories’, what should I answer?”
Heine was shocked, this was even an open-book exam!
The three brothers were also shocked and offered their advice.
“Yes.” Wei Temple Iris returned.
Heine: “Are you sure you can survive the scorching?”
Guardian Iris relayed the question again.
“What does that say? I don’t think it’s right to answer any shit ah ……”
Mr. Sa: “Wei is cautious ah, in my place I would have just answered ‘yes’.”
Catch the sheep: “According to my experience, you now have to answer two ‘yeses’ to indicate the negative, and then progress to three ‘yeses’ to indicate ‘I do not know. ‘, step by step, don’t give it away.”
…
This communication was a bit more laborious, but Guardian Iris proceeded to the final session as expected.
“Yes, yes, yes.”
Heine asked rhetorically after a pause, “Did you mean to say ‘uncertain’? Uncertainty is pronounced ……”
Guardian Iris: “Yes, uncertain.”
Again, Heine pauses, a torn look still emerging on his face.
“Even so, are you …… going to try?”
This time Guardian Iris could finally answer seriously.
“Yes.”
Without further hesitation, Heine nodded to Meno and signaled for him to remove the “child watch”.
Then he released his hold on Guardian Iris and watched him walk into the fire.
“It won’t affect you, will it?” He asked Meno.
The latter smiled proudly.
“How could it affect?”
This was nothing more than a strange skeleton.
But what was the furnace in front of him?
It was the power core of the Floating City!
If the Shadow Essence was the brain of the Floating City, then the furnace was the heart.
It gathered all the Shadow energy contained in the tens of thousands of obsidian stones used in this casting shell and made it flow by burning it.
Want to destroy something of this size?
It’s better to weigh how many seconds your skeleton can last in it first.
Although it strangely absorbed Shadow Energy and might be able to form a layer of insulation, what difference was that from a piece of paper?
Ten seconds passed quickly.
Thirty seconds ……
One minute ……
Three minutes.
Meno sighed deliberately and looked at Heine rather quickly.
“Condolences, even though it possesses some self-awareness, this is after all ……”
Boom!
The floating city suddenly shook violently, and the light on the obsidian dimmed for a moment!
It was as if a brightly lit room suddenly had an unstable power supply.
Then a pitch-black figure stepped out of the furnace.
Intense surprise welled up on Heine’s face, while a large ballast-flavored growl resounded in her head!
“Hahahahahahaha I’ve learned, I’m so tired of working for such a crappy (pe) thing!
“Ninth level Shadow Blaze, ninth level ah!”
Guardian Kite held up two pitch-black flames in his hands.
The flames were as meek as a kitten that had just grown fluff, but the color was as deep as a black hole.
Meno’s eyes went straight.
In his eyes, the purity of this flame was even higher than the furnace ……
Unsurprisingly from now on it’ll be two more chapters around 4:00 😛
