109. Chapter 109 – The Secret Report
Chapter 109 – Secret Report
The group returned to the hotel .
At the door, Copper Mirror was splitting his head against Frey .
But when he saw Heine, he immediately changed to an aggrieved expression.
“Mr. Heine, a place like Old Street is a gathering place for crooks and hooligans, representing the moral lower limit of Eagle Wing City, as Simon’s friend, I highly discourage you from going there.”
“Okay, okay, next time for sure.”
Heine smiled peacefully and stood behind Simon, using him as a shield.
Frey, on the other hand, took all the anger he had just suffered out on the tower.
He snatched up the stone and then respectfully handed it to the bronze mirror.
“My lord, can you see if there’s anything wrong with this?”
Copper Mirror lightly touched the rim of the glasses, looked at it twice, and tossed the item back to him.
“Just an ordinary souvenir, nothing of value.”
And so it went back into the tower’s hands.
…
Returning to her room, Heine saw guards standing outside the door.
Apparently he wasn’t allowed to go out any further.
But that didn’t mean he had to cancel the rest of his trip.
He called Mr. Xia over with his psychic technique.
“Can you avoid the surveillance in the hotel and go to the shipyard alone?”
Mr. Xia was shocked, then ecstatic!
“Brothers! Dude is going to do a solo mission! I’ll ask you guys if you’re envious!”
…
Half an hour later, Heine suddenly pushed open the door.
The guard was instantly alert.
Heine: “Hello, please come here.”
“Hello sir, what can I do for you?”
The guard said respectfully.
They weren’t all like this to sell face to the Lion King Trading House.
Copper Mirror’s attitude towards Heine was enough to inspire them.
Heine: “It’s nothing, I’m just talking to you, what’s the old dwarf in that bookstore on Old Street?”
The guards suddenly had a tangled look on their faces.
“Sir, we have rules ……”
Heine popped him a silver coin.
“…… There’s really nothing we can’t say, he’s a totemist, and he seems to have been a researcher at the shipyard before.”
“A shipyard? Is that where they make airships?”
“Yes, that’s the place. We used to use local wood and rely on some kind of totem or something to reduce the weight of the hull, and the wind and all that mess.
“But then it got less and less effective, and even had a couple of accidents, and immediately got better when we switched to other materials, so he got kicked out and started a bookstore selling rags in the old street.”
“Totem? Are totems really that powerful?” Heine asked deliberately.
“Uh …… this I can’t say ……”
Looking at the second silver coin, the guard cried and laughed.
“Sir, this I really don’t know ……”
“It’s fine, just say what you know.”
“Well, I actually don’t think it’s that impressive, and it says something about it being a tradition of our dwarves, that’s all a lie to outsiders ……”
The guard took out the stance of a drunken kanzan and began to talk incessantly.
His topic gradually changed from introducing the use of totems to yelling that totemists were all liars and that the power of magic and technology was the right way to go, and the more he talked, the more he got on top of it, and the more he was outraged as if he was also cheated out of a lot of money by the totems.
Heine wasn’t looking for an answer from him either, just guiding the conversation.
Catch the Goat: “I can’t, with the generic vocabulary I’ve acquired, my blood pressure is already up from listening.”
Guardian Iris: “Huh? What did he say?”
Catch the Sheep: “He said Totem Master as a sewer profession, this shall not be flushed on the forum?”
Guardian Iris: “Uh …… Nothing wrong with the timing as far as that goes, the first three years of Totemist do kinda pull it off.”
Catch the Goat: “Huh? On what basis ah?”
Wei Temple Iris: “It’s something like this ……”
…
Soon, this conversation came to a successful end.
The guard harvested two silver coins, and his desire to confide was released.
Heine learned about the role of totems from two perspectives.
Both sides were satisfied.
Totems, which sounded like a weaker version of magic scrolls, were superior in curing and lasting effects.
Much like a diluted version of a magical effect.
There were four totem poles for earthquake magic in Tuba’s bookstore, which is why he was able to unleash it in such a short period of time. And thanks to the totems, he had excellent control over the spells.
Heine, however, had a subtle feeling ……
The place where the totem pole was laid out was a bit of a weaker version of the lair, and it was harmless.
He made a silent note of the clue, intending to go back and ask Barry about it.
Then, quietly wait for Mr. Summer to return.
Just a few moments ago, someone had been sent out on a solo mission when he’d greeted the guards.
Before that he had used psionics to conduct a detailed interrogation with him for up to half an hour, almost exhausting his mental energy.
With an open-book exam, the trio circled around and confirmed that the trip was “safe enough, lucrative, and well-timed.”
Only then did he allow Mr. Xia to act alone.
The other two were envious.
…
Near the end of the night before departure, Mr. Xia returned.
He brought back a research report.
Heine read it while listening to the discussion in his head.
Guardian Iris: “What’s this?”
Mr. Xia: “How would I know, I can’t read, and it doesn’t look like a universal language, but that’s why the Brotherhood came to steal it in the first place, that’s why they opened the copy, and the progression and playing style of the different camps’ copies are different.”
Catch the Goat: “Won’t things be different because it’s ahead of time?”
Mr. Xia: “No, the box and location of the stuff is exactly the same as in the replica, and it’s an old object, it belongs to the data archive. You can question my strength, but you can’t question my professionalism.”
Catching Sheep: “……Step with me, step with me.”
Wei Temple Iris: “Then I know, it’s probably a material report. The obsidian mine in Ati Town had just collapsed at the moment this copy was opened, and there was a shortage of obsidian in the entire North, so the Floating City couldn’t even produce it. So they wanted to switch to wooden shells, so they stole the technology from here.”
…
Oh ……
If that’s the case ……
Heine would have been able to read the document in his hand.
It’s full of formulas, symbols, quite specialized, and in Dwarven.
His grasp of Dwarven was only good enough for everyday use, and specialized documents were hard to read.
But looking at the chart it wasn’t hard to tell that it was a comparison of the quality of the two products.
One of the parties had better parameters.
There is no doubt that this is a large-leaved beech log from the southern mountains.
In other words, logs from the Makara mountains are irreplaceable in terms of certain properties.
This obviously could not have been researched by the people of the Lion King Trading House themselves.
As people who supplied materials, it was obviously impossible for them to smash their own rice bowls.
Coupled with the Dwarven language, this is most likely what happened when the guards mentioned “changing the material”.
Either that, or they confirmed that the material provided by the Lion King was superior through comparison.
Either that, or they were also trying to rebel against the Lion King.
Heine preferred the latter.
It was for this reason that the research had to be done in secret, and the results had to be hidden.
What would happen if the Lion King’s people knew about this?
He tucked the information away, pondering whether or not to ask Mr. Xia to send it back again – it was good that he knew it was there anyway.
At that moment, there was a knock on the door from outside.
Pushing the door open, it was Simon.
The door to his room was open, presumably the maid was in there cleaning.
“Isn’t it time yet?” Heine wondered.
“No.”
Simon shook his head.
“The evening banquet was canceled, I heard it was a theft at the shipyard, and President Arum is dealing with things over there.”
He glanced purposefully toward the house, shrinking his gaze back at the sight of the familiar red bandana.
“So what are you doing here looking for me?” Heine asked.
Simon said helplessly, “They had a confrontation while searching the Cornu’s room, we had to go down and check it out.”
Heine frowned, “Searching? Are they crazy, how could those guys ……”
Simon waved his hand, “Just local arrogance, but don’t worry, they won’t make a move on our room.”
“Oh, that’s good. I’ll get ready then.”
As he turned around, Heine gave Mr. Xia new orders.
“Hide that report in Simon’s room.”
