Chapter 10: We Should Take the Initiative
Chapter 10: We should be proactive
Heinrich Heine parked the carriage next to the Enchanted Leather, asked the guards to keep an eye on it, and then walked.
In his years of experience in rpg games, the quest density of this place is only slightly less than the tavern.
That was his main purpose for coming here.
There was nothing more reassuring than listening to a guide to find quests.
“What kind of hand crossbow? Details.”
Goat really couldn’t help but start asking.
“A self-charging magical hand crossbow with venomous armor-breaking arrows, capped at five, looks like there’s no chance.”
“It’s fine, a hand crossbow is just a hand crossbow, we can’t press him to trigger a quest.”
Teacher Xia was silent for a few seconds, and suddenly said, “Actually, there is a plate armor belt with slight thorns added protection attached to it on this street, which counts in the early stages ……”
“I think this magic hand crossbow is crucial for you, we should be more proactive.”
“Damn you, do knights still have face changing in their skill bar?”
“I call this sincerity.”
Mr. Xia was powerless to spit, but Catch the Goat’s words also inspired him.
“We can indeed be more proactive – do you think it’s reasonable for us to trigger memories in certain scenes since he accepted our ‘will fight autonomously’ setting?”
“Do you mean pretending to be a high-level NPC undead from the Makara region?”
“Yes, now it’s free mode, later when you walk to the door of the ‘Kiss of the Poisonous Spider’ you stand still and attract that alchemist to come out, whether or not you can trigger the plot depends on this dude’s perception.”
“Why me?”
“The blood dissolving wood used for the anvil of boss #3 (Hunter), what kind of blood dissolving hemp, blood dissolving grass and so on only grows near the haunted farm, that’s a copy area, normal people don’t dare to go there, he’ll borrow your anvil in the name of research, and then open the plot.”
Goat was alert: “It won’t demolish my shield, will it?”
“Good question, I don’t know.”
“Huh?”
“I was wanted back when I plowed the seventh master’s grave, and spent the first 10 levels in the Whispering Forest, so it depends on his enlightenment.”
“Then why am I standing still?”
“Well, maybe you’re the old father of the owner of this store who died in battle ……”
“…… How true.”
By now the three of them were slowly approaching the “Kiss of the Poisonous Spider”.
When they reached the door, Catch the Goat suddenly stood still, and Heine deliberately walked out a few steps before turning back in surprise.
At this time, the alchemist Rowan has come out, also frowned at the skeleton wrapped tightly in front of him.
He recognized it as undead.
“Is this your servant? Come in and have a chat.”
Rowan returned to the house, and Heine followed after feigning hesitation.
There were no customers in the store, but it was as cold as yesterday.
Heine automatically ignored this shop when he stepped on the spot yesterday, and chose the “bottles and jars” apothecary store not far away, not realizing that there was actually a plot here.
“You’re from the Burial Ground?”
“Yes.”
“My name is Rowan, I don’t like being polite, so let’s just get straight to the point – there’s something I’m interested in on your servant, make an offer.”
Heine’s gaze swept over the catching goat, as if in thought.
“Mr. Xia, how is this different from what you said?”
“Don’t panic, this NPC is at most level 5 and still a Living Profession, you can throw him to death with a flying shield.”
“And then Heine is wanted and goes to the Whispering Forest to spend the first 10 levels?”
“Look, the world line wraps up.”
Heine cried and laughed at that, but her face remained calm.
“The thing you’re interested in has something to do with Hunter Gittler?”
“You ……”
Rowan’s breathing was noticeably rougher, and hostility surfaced in his eyes.
“Don’t get me wrong, Hunter died last night.”
“What?”
“The Burial Ground was leveled by a holy light that fell from the sky, and the academy no longer exists.”
“How is it possible …… No, holy light ……”
Rowan’s face suddenly changed, he stuck his hands into his hair and said in agony:
“That Gitil is dead? Dead? Then where should I look for the blood dissolving grass, damn it, I managed to escape from that place with great difficulty!” “Talk.” Heine said, “Maybe I can help you.”
……
Half an hour later, Heine left Poison Spider’s Kiss with two vials of paralyzing toxin.
The exchange was smooth, not only did he receive the quest, he also got part of the reward in advance.
Teacher Xia lamented, “I’m really envious of this dude’s enlightenment and eloquence, if we had him on the team in the beginning, how would we have fought so many unnecessary fights …… It would have been the first echelon a long time ago.”
“It makes sense, after all, you guys have brains below the professional level, and you could even fight with the quartermaster before I joined.”
Heine heard straight scratching his head, this is a bunch of what players ah ……
Rowan’s story wasn’t exactly complicated.
He was born on a haunted farm run by the Gitille family and spent the first thirty-two years of his life there before escaping nearly a year ago.
The farmers on the haunted farm worked for the Gittillers in addition to serving as fodder for experiments.
He was chosen to join the estate at the age of fifteen because of his skill at mixing potions, and not only did he become an apprentice mage, but he also started a family and soon had a lovely daughter.
But later he realized that his wife had long been infected with a blood spell, and his daughter was even a test subject for the research on the hereditary nature of blood spells.
Buffered by her mother, her blood could be used in medicine, and the potion Hunter used to deal with the teachers of the Buried Lands added this blood – which was the reason why Shiala was still unconscious.
Heine had the other side study the anvil first, but unfortunately the thing had been altered by the potion to most of its properties and could not be used in medicine.
He then promised to go to the haunted farm and bring back some blood dissolving herbs.
Both to follow up on that magical hand crossbow and to heal Hiara.
He didn’t reveal that he also had a patient lying in his house, and Rowan naturally cried out in gratitude, sending two bottles of poison on the spot.
During the conversation, Heine kept repeating Rowan’s words in the form of rhetorical questions, allowing the two players to hear the whole picture as well.
The two didn’t let Heine down, quickly connecting the quest to the haunted farm and saying, “This copy is just right, and my return to the haunted farm is like returning home.”
This had to go.
Heine handed Mr. Xia the bottle of poison and carefully instructed him on how to apply it to the dagger, like teaching a kitten to nest in a litter box.
……
All the way north on the wagon.
Heine directs Catch Sheep to sit next to him and drive the wagon together.
He decides to give the other a certain amount of freedom, but must show enough hesitation until then.
On the other hand Catch the Sheep is nervous.
“What should I do, Mr. Xia, I feel like I’m going to turn into bone meal.”
“On the other hand, you’re the first skeleton to prepare for the next number.”
“I thank you ……”
At that moment, Heine spoke with discretion.
“Headmaster Gare says I’m not a necromancer.
“The effect of the Soul Repulsion Curse is to prevent mages from communicating with the wandering souls of the underworld, so this curse is of little use to me.
“But he mentioned Essence Souls, which are a stronger class of undead who possessed an uncommon sense of combat when they were born, and those senses didn’t die out after their deaths……. I think you should be an Essence Soul as well, and very good at it.
“Those who can summon Essence Souls are psychics, and I hope that I will one day be worthy of that title – a psychic soul.
“I don’t know why you stopped in front of Rowan’s store today.
“I asked him about the store, and he said that he had taken it over from an old man who had a son who had died in battle in a faraway land, and that it was a wonderful lad, affectionately known to his teammates as ‘Solid Back’.
“I don’t know whether you are connected with him or not, but I must admit that you are just as solid.”
The warm words were blown away by the early fall wind.
Heine was silent, and the two were speechless for a long time.
In the middle of the day, Heine sighed.
He patted Catch Sheep’s shoulder, “Go inside, think of it as a psychic trying to communicate with his summons, but obviously failing.”
Catching Sheep returned to the carriage, and it took a while before he spoke.
“Do I count as passing?”
“I think it counts.”
“So can we hint at something more obvious next time?”
“I think so.”
Heine sighed with relief as well.
It was okay, the story hadn’t been made up for nothing.
