Chapter 747: Rejoice, holy light believers, I seek for you the
Chapter 745 744.Rejoice, Holy Light Believers, I’ve got a big daddy for you!
As a matter of fact, Murphy had an uneasy feeling when he heard the harsh contents of that frontier pact.
The Feathered Serpent God’s warning in the following also verified Murphy’s suspicion that the Sentinel Legion’s pact with these New Gods was more like a deal than mutual assistance.
The Sentinels used the Creator’s power to help the Star Realm Giant Spirits step into the realm of Deity, the price was that these New Gods had to keep fighting in the subspace battlefield until they died, and as long as the pact was still in place, He could not retreat.
Although the New Gods who had contacted Murphy before did not explicitly say so, the story of Avalon and Lady Spider as well as the process of Vam’s birth illustrated that this war was very brutal even for the deities, and this fight-or-flight situation lasted for more than a thousand years, and it was actually quite normal for certain Giant Spirits to want to back out of the contract.
After all, they were not born gods.
They were just powerful creatures born in the Astral Realm, and could not be expected to be born with some sort of “divinity”.
These were molded gods, and it was well known that no matter what the reason for the creation of something new, there would eventually come a day of rebellion.
To put it nicely, freedom cannot be constrained, and the harder the pressure, the stronger the rebellion.
To put it bluntly, it is an instinct or inferiority that exists in the heart of every living being.
All living things tend to avoid harm, even without intelligence will instinctively do so.
However, Murphy had seen the world along the way, he didn’t panic, instead, he looked towards the Feathered Serpent God’s projection in front of him that was molding its form with the fire of the sun, he said in a subtle tone:
“So there’s a place for you among those despicable gods who tried to break the covenant? Ms. Kurkan who is in a terrible situation but doesn’t know who to ask for help.”
“I’m not, I’m not, don’t you dare say that.”
The Plumed Serpent God immediately gave a negative answer, but Murphy also got the answer he wanted… Well, it seems that there are quite a lot of individuals among the deities who want to “take a step back”.
Probably because he felt that it was pointless to pretend in front of the Alpha, Kurkan simply changed the topic.
She said:
“Let’s talk about us.
As you can see, those subspace lapdogs have contaminated me in my realm using very nasty methods, and a dark, manic consciousness has been born in my divinity, which I must expel before He changes me completely.”
“Avalon has done something similar, why don’t you go to Him?”
Murphy asked rhetorically.
Kurkan was silent for a moment and sighed:
“Because in His eyes, I’m a cowardly traitor, and I’m the first god who dares to discuss this openly.”
“Ha, I see, you are the ‘Judas’.”
Murphy laughed and said:
“So, Avalon is a faithful fulfillment of the Borderlands Pact, and I guess the gods of the Old Continent are loyal, because He’s fighting the subspace invasion in their respective goddoms right now, and doesn’t even have the time to pay attention to the calls of the believers.
But there is a schism amongst you, so they are sitting back and watching your situation get worse day by day, and when you couldn’t reach them on the battlefield in subspace they sent your priests all the way across the ocean.
What?
Is the great Sun God intending to express repentance to His companions in this way so that He can pull you along for the sake of the past?”
“Shut up, wicked Alpha!”
Kurkan said with great annoyance:
“We’re not traitors, and we’re not trying to defect to Subspace; it’s already been proven that even if we individuals who relied on the Creator’s power to ascend to godhood surrendered, we’d still be transformed into something quite horrible by Subspace.
This is a war of your death!
There’s no turning back when we receive the power of creation, but even the bravest warrior can’t stay on the battlefield all the time!
Do you understand me?
We need a backwater where the wounded and weakened among us can have time and space to recover, but the Frontier Pact says we can’t. Do you know when our differences were born and grew?
It was when the War Giant Thiokol was besieged to death by the servants of subspace, and He was the bravest of us all, and He didn’t bow down to the point of death, and called on us to continue the fight.
But what was the result?
His godly body like a giant mountain was torn apart, most of it was snatched away by the Subspace Shadows, and only a small portion of it crashed into the material world along with the shattered godly kingdom
Well, you might not understand when I say Him, you’ll know when I say the other name.
Vam!
Vam was born from the broken divine body of Thiokuk.
That could be seen as another kind of resurrection, and it was Vam’s resurrection that gave us a glimpse of what was to come.
Vam never missed any battle with subspace, and He was wounded many times, but He was much happier than us poor gods.
He had choices!
Do you understand?
In the most critical moments, Vam can pull back from subspace and return to the material world to recuperate, but we can’t Sulphur Ghulk’s tragedy was enough once.
We’re not trying to tear up the Frontier Pact, Alpha.
We’re just trying to modify it!
You know, if Avalon could have gone back to the Astral Plane and slowly healed himself when he was tainted in the first place, He wouldn’t have even needed to make that bracing move of having a part of Himself hardened out to form Ms. Spider.
Ah, hell!
I’m facing the same dilemma now.
What’s worse, I’m just a victim of the fact that subspace has found a way to corrupt us from the material world.
Haven’t you realized it yet?
Gaia has just dodged a bullet, Avalon had to abandon His faith in mankind to avoid a repeat of the plague, and in the far east from your place, Oo’s earthly servants are doing their best to purify the polluters among them.
And Leviathan.
The shark followers of the God of the Sea fight in every part of the Sea of Mists against enemies who seek to pollute Him.
But all the gods have similar pitfalls, the rear has become unsettled, and the frontier pacts that made us what we are have become shackles that bind us.
All gods are tired!
This is not an exaggeration, we have been fighting at the forefront for more than a thousand years, even the bravest of the brave Sue has been overwhelmed, and the evils of subspace need only a chance to hit Him hard.”
Kurkan, the God of the Feathered Serpent, was now like a branch manager who had made a mistake and was trying her best to explain herself to the inspectors sent down from the head office. She tried to rationalize her actions, but it didn’t change the fact that she was suspected of trying to be a “deserter”.
But there was no point in dwelling on that now.
Murphy wasn’t a full-fledged administrator, he hadn’t fully inherited the Creator’s gifts, and he only had a deterrent effect on the gods, but no real jurisdiction over them.
Therefore, the vampire lord asked very directly:
“Let’s talk about these things afterward, and I’m not the one you have to confess to, so tell me, how can I help you?”
“It’s best if you can unravel the frontier contract.”
Kurkan said resentfully:
“But I know you can’t do that right now, you don’t even know where the Sentinel Legion is, and they’re not going to obey an administrator who doesn’t even have access to the creation.
So I’ll just have to take the old Avalon approach and split off a Dark Side to keep myself pure.
The Astral Dragon could help purify me, but Ao that character
He’s even more extreme than Avalon, he’s the guy among us who longs the most to give birth to true divinity, he takes the power given by the Creator as a mission and duty, he longs to be the embodiment of some kind of rule, so speaking to him as a human being is unnecessary.
A ‘deserter’ like me would kill me with His own hands if I dared to appear before Him.
So find the original shrine of Ms. Spider, I’m going to learn a little bit about splitting my self from her so that I won’t be too weak after this ‘surgery’.
Also if possible I would like you to intervene in the deteriorating situation in the Aztec kingdom, my mortal servants are very loyal and they are still fighting back against the evils of subspace, but I no longer dare to grant them too much power.
For I myself am becoming more and more defiled.
Ah, shit!
How good the faith thing is to use, and how deadly it is when it goes wrong.
We are tied to the believers when we receive aid from the material world.
I’m truly envious of Su and Ao right now, they’ve never used the power of faith too much, so they don’t have this kind of terrible pitfalls and problems.”
“Well, it just so happens that this is in line with my goals, and I can help.”
Murphy agreed, but then he reached out and touched the bright sun fires that surrounded him, then the conversation turned and said:
“But I can’t do it for nothing, can I?
Considering that I will become the Creator’s sole spokesperson in this world in the future, when it really comes to that time, even if the two of us have a very good personal relationship, I will have to consider the opinions of the other deities, and drop punishment on guys like you who are trying to evade their responsibilities.
It wouldn’t be a good idea to really get into that situation.
So what I’m saying is, since you have the intention to repent, why don’t you start seriously fulfilling the correction of your mistakes from now on? And also let the other deities who still hold fast to their duties see your act of atonement.”
“I’m already regaining my duties, and I’m also fighting off the filthy servants in subspace, otherwise would my corruption have gotten this bad?” Big Sister Kurkan said with great displeasure:
“I admit that it was very wrong of me to swing for the fences for hundreds of years, but I have now rejoined the battlefield, and technically, how is this a lost cause for me, and don’t mortals always say that you can change when you know you’re wrong”
“Your explanation is like saying I killed someone on the road because I was in a bad mood, and then I decided to clean up my act and become a good person again, so I get away with it?”
Murphy said slyly:
“Although this analogy is not quite appropriate, I think you can understand what I mean, knowing that you have done something wrong you should do something to make amends to express your remorse, rather than bowing and apologizing and then you can act as if the world is at peace and nothing has happened.
That’s trying to fool the world and, saddest of all, trying to fool yourself.
A god like you wouldn’t be able to come in front of me and say a stupid answer like ‘I’ve apologized, what more do you want’, would you?”
Kurkan was speechless with dislike.
It seemed that this awesome big sister wasn’t a good debater, as she grunted and panted as she moved her Sunfire into various divine forms, before sighing after several seconds:
“So? What are you going to have me do? Get directly involved in your Black Plague?
I wouldn’t mind descending the fire of the sun to incinerate your enemies, but the problem is that in my current state, do you really dare to let me descend into an incarnation on earth? Not to mention, in order for a deity to descend into an incarnation across the three dimensional barriers of subspace, the astral realm, and the material world, you’d have to prepare a sufficiently powerful ‘earthly body’ for me to be able to do so.
In the past thousand years only the Sharks had accomplished such a great feat with the help of the ancient kingdom of Calum, and Leviathan’s earthly body was still cruising around the Sea of Mists to this day.
That thing is so troublesome to make.”
“It’s not that complicated, I’ve always believed in the concept that gods have their battlefields and people have their wars, it’s better for both sides not to interfere with each other, lest we get the tragedy of Avalon and Gaia.”
Murphy waved his hand and said:
“But not long ago there was a ripple in subspace called ‘holy light’, I think you also felt it, right?”
“Well, it was indeed felt, a very peculiar seed had been planted, and of course the filth of subspace wouldn’t leave it alone, they tried to corrupt the thing the first time, but it was strange.”
The Feathered Serpent God said in a strange tone:
“The idea that thing carries is so pure that it can’t be corrupted by subspace, as well as the entity that carries its beliefs is so out of place with the other believers that even subspace has nowhere to go. That thing is currently the most discussed topic amongst the gods, and many of them are speculating where this odd thing came from.”
“No need to guess, that was one of my attempts, and it seems to be working just fine so far.”
Murphy waved his hand in a Versailles-like gesture and said:
“But it’s too hard to try and shape a god, I need your help Ms. Kurkan, you have ‘purification’ as part of your priesthood, right?”
“Yes there is, but my purification power is derived from combining it with the symbols of ‘sun’ and ‘flame’, it is not my main priesthood, and that purifying fire is more of a collateral effect of the blazing fire that burns away the defilement, so there is no way for me to purify myself.”
Kuretan said depressingly:
“I don’t have ‘purification’ as my main divine priesthood like Ao, dammit! I even laughed at Ao for picking the most useless auxiliary ability from the Creator’s treasure trove when I signed the Borderlands Pact back then, but more than a thousand years later the facts have proven that I’m the one who’s stupid.
The Star Realm Dragon fought valiantly against subspace for over a thousand years, he was the worst enemy of the subspace shadows, he fought bravely in every battle yet remained the purest of us all. The Subspace Shadows all feel nowhere to lay their hands on that pervasive purifying power of His.”
“Since it’s an incidental ability and there’s no way for you to use it properly, you might as well strip it away.”
Murphy narrowed his eyes and said:
“Give your ‘Purification of Fire’ power to the Seed of Holy Light or even not have to give it to Him, just grant Him that ‘tokenism’, I learned from my girlfriend that conceptual powers between deities can be ‘gifted’, right?”
“It can be, but why would I do that?”
Kurkan snapped:
“It would cost me some of my power! I’m already in bad shape.”
“If you don’t give it, I can still go to Brilliant Blaze! People aren’t personality gods like you, they’re concept gods! Don’t think that I don’t know the grudge between you and the Creator, who calls you ‘little animals’.
That’s not exactly positive!
How cute little animals are when they’re good, and how annoying they are when they make a mess”
Murphy also stopped pretending as he threatened:
“The concepts of the Death Moon and the Brilliant Blazing Sun are probably some sort of ‘iterative update’ by the Creator after He got bored with you meddlers, symbols of death and new life that were given to Him by Himself.
He has a very different form of existence than you, and is more advanced than you!
As long as the sun and moon remain, these two conceptual gods will not die out.
I think it would be much easier for me to borrow power from Him than from you, so bother to recognize your current situation, Kurkan, and I could actually do without your help.
You can also refuse me!
But at some point in the future when you sit in the Court of Creation presided over by me, may your eloquence be good enough to convince me and those ‘juries’ to overlook your crime of ‘desertion’.
Perhaps a little more extreme!
You could just defect to the subspace side and crush me before I grow up, but I think that the Sentinel Legion might not sit idly by.
Since they can mold new gods, slaughtering one or two stupid ones shouldn’t be too hard for them.
To summarize, I can clearly tell you that I’m not requesting you!”
“Let’s do it another way.”
Kurkan, who was tired of speaking because the situation was so bad that he didn’t have a few words to say, said:
“I helped that seed to grow in subspace, nurturing it with the fire of my sun while bestowing power in His name on His followers in the material world, a symbolic process of empowerment.”
“Don’t promise Him! Murph.”
Mannis the Endless suddenly whispered in Murphy’s ear:
“My seemingly rude but actually cunning kind is swindling you from understanding the mysteries of these gods, He is trying to use this method to bind Himself to the Holy Light, so that when the Holy Light is born, He can proudly call Himself the ‘Mother of the Holy Light’!
And He’s already tainted.
Allowing Him to nurture the Holy Light might cause subspace to take advantage of the situation.
This head of my kind is really cunning, no wonder it can do something like desertion, let Him strip the power of divinity, oh yeah, by the way, ask for a copy of the power of ‘Flight’ for me, I suddenly feel like it seems cool to grow wings.”
“Shut up! Mannis, do you think I can’t hear you?”
Kurkan chided:
“You don’t want to mess with me after messing with Oo, do you?”
“Well, never mind my collaborators.”
Murphy said as he spread his hands and showed his cards to Kurkan:
“Strip away your Fire Purification power and grant it to the Seed of Holy Light. And I promise you that I will help you complete your own purification as soon as possible, you don’t even need to completely divest yourself of that part of you that is dark, you just need to expel it with assistance at some point.
I will help you persuade Ao to help, I think I have the honor.”
“?”
Kurkan looked at Murphy in a skeptical manner as she said:
“You’re pretty cute when you’re confident . Well, I believe you, but you have to remember, Alpha, that you are the Administrator, and an oath you utter carries its own symbolism.
You make a promise, you have to do it.
So I suggest you don’t swear in the future, lest you get into some trouble you can’t handle. Also, I don’t know what you’re trying to do by shaping the holy light, but you’re doing something dangerous.
The fact that you can make holy light means that you can also make something even crazier than just the beliefs you’ll utilize, it’s a double edged sword.
End of speech.
Thanks for your help, and by the way, put in a good word for me in front of those guys, I won’t let you do it for nothing, Alpha.
Remember!
Be sure to help the Aztecs, because the Heart of the World is in that forest they guard! And the kingdom I protect is the gatekeeper of the Heart of the World in the material world.
That is why Dusk must contaminate me.
Avalon still owes me a favor.
His damned minion killed so many of my followers and made it back to the Old World alive all because I opened the door to a favor, and I’m giving that favor to you now, Alpha.
You took something from me, might as well take something from Him as well.”
