494. Chapter 492: 491 Transylvanian Behemoth Unit “Ninkinanka
Chapter 492: 491. Transylvanian Behemoth Unit “Ninkinanka” has been deployed.
The swamp serpent “Orr” is in bad shape.
Although he had been lying here for three days and was being purified of poisonous blood by the Avalon priests, the process was progressing very slowly, not because the priests weren’t working hard, but because they hadn’t dealt with a similar situation before.
As she watched the “Magical Murphy” miraculously calm the enraged serpent, an amazed Sister Marianne stepped forward and said to the Vampire Governor:
“The serpent obviously has strong self-healing power, so it should be able to rely on its own strength to heal its wounds, but during the purification process, we found that there was a special power in the wound on its back that was preventing it from healing itself.
This is the main reason why the giant snake is constantly weakening.
I can tell that the giant snake’s injuries came from the Astral Realm, and it should have been injured by a certain powerful Astral Realm Beast to cause the current result.
If we continue purifying, it is indeed possible to help it get out of its predicament, but it will take a long, long time, and the giant snake’s current condition is so bad that it won’t necessarily be able to last.”
“It’s called ‘Orr’, don’t always refer to it as a giant serpent, it’s not a beast, in fact it’s origins are much more noble than the vast majority of beings on this continent, and it represents not only power, but also the past.
A great, forgotten era.
They, the last shadows left from that era.”
Murphy sighed and reached out to pat Ole’s head.
The latter was still indifferent to him, closing his eyes and simply ignoring Murphy’s “getting close” behavior, but allowing Murphy to touch it and not attacking it already showed that Ole no longer regarded Murphy as an evil vampire enemy.
If Murphy can cure it, I think the relationship between them may be further advanced?
Beside the Governor, the still a bit weak Archduke Tris went up to take some samples of the giant snake’s wounds, she threw out a psychic spell for detecting after distinguishing it and turned back to Murphy:
“If we can get the venom of the Star Realm Beast that harmed Orr, I can use that as an ingredient to formulate a potion to help it get rid of its weakness, and leave the rest to us. With the healing ability of a legendary creature, give it enough time and it will regain its health.”
“It’s not really that difficult, it’s just risky.”
Murphy touched the universal device that hung on his wrist as a trinket.
The first form of this thing would record the coordinates of the Star Realm banishment, and if Ole was indeed thrown into the Star Realm by this thing, then by simply activating the recording function again, Murphy would be able to easily locate the behemoth that had harmed it.
However, the real problem was that the adult body of Ninki Nanka already possessed strength comparable to that of a gold ranked individual yet it was still beaten up so badly by others in the astral realm, which was a good indication that the opponents that Ole encountered in the astral realm were strong.
With Murphy’s current rank rashly chasing after the Star Realm Beast’s fate would probably not be too good, even if he had Tris by his side to protect him, it was hard to say what kind of attitude the Star Realm Beast that had injured the legendary creature would have to face him with.
Star Realm ah, even Tris said that it wasn’t a suitable place for exploring or searching for secrets
“I need to prepare an astral communication ceremony.”
The vampire lord hesitated for a moment and told Tris:
“Tonight or tomorrow we’ll try to find the perpetrator, if the other person can communicate that would be great.”
“Astral behemoths are intelligent, the longer they live the more wisdom they accumulate, and while it is boring to measure astral creatures by earthly good and evil, I do know that the big guys are intelligent to the point of calling them cunning and malevolent.”
Tris said shaking her head:
“And the astral creatures all have powers of one sort or another, Murphy, I wouldn’t advise it, you’re an Astral Summoner, once your consciousness enters the astral realm it’s easy to be detected by dangerous things”
“But I can’t just leave it so unattended.”
Murphy glanced at the giant serpent Orr, who was lying in the muddy water with his eyes closed and swinging, and he sighed:
“This is my job as a curator, and while I don’t know if there’s an attendance mechanism in place, I’m guessing that if the death of Ole happened under my stewardship, my career would be tainted by it.
In case it’s recorded by that strange ‘Eye of the Dude’, our efforts to seek more hidden secrets afterward will also be overshadowed by it.
Most importantly, I want to see if my ‘curator’s stipend’ for next month will be a little bit higher if I revive Ole?
It was something that had to be done, as a matter of sense and reason.
But before that, there is another thing we can accomplish as a way to get closer to the Swamp Serpents, I mean, brush up on their ‘personal reputation’.
You mustn’t forget, Tris.
There are still fellow Oer’s in the other three districts, they’re just sleeping but can be awakened at any time.”
Murphy looked at the Legendary Giant Serpent in front of him that was as big as a small mountain even when it was lying in the muddy water, and he said softly with a certain subtle expectation:
“If the Jackal army tries to trample on my territory again, then I, the curator, will be forced to activate ‘lethal force’ due to the pressure. These are 7 Legendary Giant Serpents, even if they don’t really want to leave their homes, it’s enough to patrol the vicinity of the ecological zone.
What do you say?”
“Murphy!”
With a jolt, Tris subconsciously gripped Murphy’s wrist and whispered:
“You’re going to use the legendary creatures to attack the Jackals? You can command them?”
“Command, no.”
Murphy said with a regretful sigh:
“But it shouldn’t be too much of a problem for the baby giant snakes in my care to help me out when I’m threatened as a breeder, right?”
“That would be awesome! Ah, I mean, this behavior is really inappropriate!”
Tris first jumped up in excitement and was held in Murphy’s arms in a princess hug, then reacted to the fact that she might be regarded as “dereliction of duty” if she said those words in her capacity as a “curator’s assistant”.
Therefore, she quickly raised her face again and scolded Murphy:
“You really know too much about exploiting loopholes, that’s not good, Curator Murphy, we should focus more on our duties.”
“Right, right, right, I know that’s not good, that’s why I need to get on good terms with my giant snake babies in advance.”
Murphy set Tris down.
He approached the rocky egg that was guarded by Ole, and as he reached for it, the giant snake’s massive claws bristled and popped out claw blades as big as Murphy’s entire body, but the vampire didn’t flinch and just patted Ole’s massive paw and said:
“Do you remember how you were born? Your eggs couldn’t hatch it wasn’t that you didn’t try hard enough, silly boy, when those guys put a layer of restriction in your bloodline for protection.
I can remove that restriction.
If all goes well, tonight, you will see your child.”
“Ow.”
The giant snake let out a low whimper, as if to confirm that Murphy wasn’t joking, and once Murphy waved the curator’s badge he’d gotten from the control room in front of its eyes, Ole released his claws.
Apparently, it still recognized the badge that represented the power of the swamp ecological zone.
“Good boy.”
Murphy smiled and reached out to drive his psychic energy to hold the rocky dome in the air; the thing had a unique power that prevented it from being moved using spatial teleportation, so he and Tris had to once again return to the exhibition hall in that black hovering wheelchair.
Murphy, the “new curator”, finally began to fulfill his duties given by the Creator, which made him feel a hint of “great responsibility”.
Under the curious gaze of his assistant Tris, Murphy, holding the giant egg in his arms, walked into the incubation room on the other side of the staff hall. Even after countless years, the facilities left behind by the Creator still maintained a fairly good level of accuracy.
Their unmarked doors cut open silently to both sides, revealing the gentle blue light in the incubation room.
What appeared in front of Murphy and Tris was a huge precision instrument, which was encapsulated in a cylindrical metal canister, and there was a chamber in front where the egg was placed. After a layer of “disinfecting light”, Murphy stepped into the incubation chamber and put the huge egg in his hand, and then activated the instrument with the universal key.
The thing is apparently fully automated.
After receiving the authorization from the curator, the egg was quickly sent into the predetermined position by four mechanical tentacles, and then a blue-violet light erupted from it, wrapping up the egg, and a steady stream of test information was projected on the operation panel in front of the incubator.
“It’s truly magical.”
Tris couldn’t help but exclaim:
“Even if I can’t understand the operating principles of these machines at all, I can feel traces of supreme wisdom in them, it’s another path that’s very different from psychic energy, but it leads to the truth all the same.
These facilities left behind by the Creator seem to be the pulse of the technological development of the warriors’ side of the world.”
“Not even close.”
Murphy shook his head:
“The level of technological development in the Warriors’ world is far from the level of the Creator’s technology, as in the case of this incubator in front of us, even if we let Moeha, who is currently the most professional among the Warriors, come over here, she would probably have trouble discerning the principle of how this thing works.
Even if a battery is removed from it, it is enough to make them realize the development of future technology .
Wait!”
Murphy was instantly struck as if by lightning. He froze in place, staring stonily at the futuristic style incubator in front of him that was functioning automatically.
A genius idea quickly surfaced in his mind, making him so excited that he wrapped his arms around Tris’s slender waist and hugged her in a big circle in place amidst the Blood Vulture Archduke’s screams.
“I know! Tris, I know how to keep communicating with the opposite side!”
The vampire lord said with a face full of joy:
“Equal communication is based on mutual need! In the past, we needed the assistance of the warriors more than their curiosity about us, and this kind of interaction is inherently unequal, the initiative seems to be in my hands but they also have the strength and leverage to raise the table.
Now, however, it’s different!
These Creator Technologies!
Yes, these gifts left behind by the Creator represent the future!
The fact that these technologies and machines could perform all sorts of miraculous effects without the involvement of psychic energy meant that the learning of these technologies was just as applicable when taken to their side, and their thirst for this knowledge could not be extinguished once it was aroused.
I finally have the strength to negotiate with them!”
“Ah, this is really great.”
Tris was smart, she was a bit puzzled at first, but soon she realized where Murphy’s joy stemmed from, and she said with a face full of joy:
“Doesn’t that mean we can recruit more specialized and elite warriors from the otherworld without interference? It’s like a mercenary army that we can pay for with knowledge! Moreover, our current warriors are all just playing around, we need professional soldiers and commanders similar to Rod and Old Qin!
As long as we come up with enough rewards .”
“Yes, that’s the perfect state of affairs, each taking what they need and respecting each other.”
Murphy nodded.
He hesitantly walked back and forth in front of the running incubator, but soon both he and Tris realized something very important.
“If we’re going to share knowledge, then we have to understand them first.”
The Blood Vulture Archduke whispered:
“But I can’t even read . The design of this large iron pot in front of me will only make me look like an idiot and a fool.”
“That’s not really a problem.”
Murphy said, rubbing his chin:
“Getting them to send someone over to study all this Creator tech is actually an effective way to do it, but we have so few samples on hand that something like this would mean no in-depth study if they disassembled it.
So we need to find more Creator tech.
It seems like the Land of Origins must be visited once, didn’t you say that there are a lot of relics over there?”
“Yes, there are as many relics in the ten thousand miles of yellow sand as there are stars in the sky, and the Sanghai people couldn’t find all of the Creator’s gifts even after digging for a thousand years.”
Tris said:
“But still, the Sanghai people won’t allow us to set foot on their holy land, let alone dismantle their holy relics, and since the Sanghai Empire is one of the two ancient kingdoms on the continent at the moment, they are strong enough to protect their treasures.”
“Hmm perhaps we can take the path of Venerable Lord Pa Ying.”
Murphy said thoughtfully:
“If we can convince the Venerable Lord to join us as well, let’s talk about this matter afterward, before the end of the Black Plague, I don’t think either the Sanghai people or the Venerable Lord will have any extra thoughts about getting involved in our events.”
“Ding.”
The crisp beep of the incubator signaled that the testing for the rocky giant egg had ended and it was ready to move on to the next stage.
Murphy and Tris twisted their heads to look at the monitor where specific information about the egg had been posted:
Name: Orphan of the Astral Plane – code name “Ninkinanka”.
Status: unhatched – awaiting orders
Bio Template: Legendary creature – dragon serpent species
Formation Preference: nature/earth psionic bias
Biotrait: molt reborn – toxin mastery – swamp roam – seismic – gem scales/group confusion – legendary toughness – legendary endurance – legendary weapon resistance
Origin: Unknown homeworld – destroyed
Racial Status: Endangered
Below the racial information is a test of the egg, which has been rockified to be in healthy condition internally, with the incubator giving a countdown to hatching of roughly 8 hours.
Murphy activated the hatching program without much hesitation.
The incubation room showed that it needed to be shut down and enter a special environment, so Murphy and Tris left the area.
The two of them were talking and laughing, walking hand in hand in a happy mood through the staff hall that was being cleaned up, Murphy turned his head and glanced at the unspeakable “Birth Control and Entertainment Vending Machine” in the corner, and then looked at the confused Tris.
He felt an impulse in his heart, but then shook his head to calm himself down.
Hey, at this time of the black plague, let’s put the matters of love and affection on the back burner.
He took Tris back to the monitoring room and called up the monitoring situation of the swamp ecological zones B, C, and D. The six swamp giant snakes other than Ouer were all slumbering in their respective nests, and they were about the same size as Ouer, obviously born from the same batch as Ouer, but their personalities were obviously not as violent as their big brother Ouer.
All six of these giant snakes were well-behaved and accepted the slumbering procedure when the ecological zone was closed, and beside the six giant snakes there were varying numbers of giant eggs.
Murphy counted as many as five.
“These eggs have almost reached the limit of what this swamp ecological zone can bear after being hatched by all of them.”
Tris said in an affirmative tone, with the poise expected of a knowledgeable person who had traveled the continent:
“Unless you open up the entire Filth Swamp for them to live and move around, the ecology here cannot support more Legendary Giant Serpents to survive, however once the entire Filth Swamp is opened up, it’s assumed that this swamp will become a ‘forbidden zone of life’.
With the territorial awareness shown by the giant snakes, no other beings would be able to enter it.
But this might be good news, it means that the Filth Swamp will be permanently blocked, with the seven Legendary Beasts coupled with the forbidden land’s Creator Defense Force, even if it’s Murphy the Jackal, we might already be invincible.”
“Yes, it feels so good to not need to think about defeat, now we just need to think about what to do to win completely? But letting the behemoths get involved in the war is not the proper behavior for a curator, and I suspect that with the intelligence of this base, once I do that I’ll probably be stripped of my status as a curator and permanently expelled from this place for ‘malfeasance of duty’.
I don’t want to take any chances, so that choice can only be made in the most desperate of times.
It’s the equivalent of a one-time bailout program, and I’ll try not to use it if I can.”
With a sense of deliberation and pleasure Murphy activated his curator’s authority to terminate the slumber program of the remaining six giant snakes, allowing them to enter the awakening process.
He said to Tris:
“The fact that it took Ole over a thousand years to grow to this size speaks volumes about the slow growth of their race, and the baby snakes and their parents can spend a long time in the swamp ecoregion before they consider leaving.
It means centuries have passed for mortals, we have plenty of time to wait for them to grow up and become symbols of Transylvania.
I’m starting to be glad now that I’m a vampire and don’t have to think about the passage of time.
I can hatch them and watch them grow, Tris, do you remember how you said earlier that vampires as an immortal species need to find themselves a bit of a spiritual anchor?”
Murphy leaned back against the console, his arms spread wide in the backdrop of his Creator’s legacy, and said with a smile on his face:
“See, I think I’ve found it, a mission from the Creator, and it’s never just a swampy eco-zone waiting to be received in the future, there are many, many more prehistoric mysteries and Creator legacies waiting to be sorted out.
I feel as if I have found this thing that will keep me busy for a long time, another job to pass the time in my life besides chasing you and gaining the love of the Scarlet Witch.”
“Ding.”
A prompt popped up on the character card in front of Murphy’s eyes:
[The third profession ‘Historian – Pre-Age Mystery Seeker Specialization’ has been inaugurated! The hidden achievement ‘Bury you in the yellow sand for a thousand years and you’ll be worth a lot of money’ has been lit.
Achievement points +10.]
“Cool!”
Murphy laughed and stood up straight, making a very pompous scholarly salute to Tris in front of him as he introduced himself:
“So, Ms. Tris, the best theologian and historian on the continent, standing in front of you is Murphy, a newcomer on the road and a historian, please teach me more in the future.”
“Hmph.”
Tris cooperatively clasped her arms as she looked Murphy up and down, then snorted:
“Does any cat or dog dare to call themselves a historian now? Where’s your thesis? And what’s your degree? Where are your opinions? What’s your attitude toward history? Bad student Murphy, I see you need a little sharpening.
Why don’t you come and give your mentor a whack on the back? Or else you’ll fail this year.”
