Chapter 45 45 Handsome Murphy’s Ambition Crisis and Opportunity
Chapter 45 45.Handsome Murphy’s Ambition-Crisis and Opportunity
A clueless Lumina and four other small players had just gotten online when Tris shoved a quest at them head on.
Luckily, they had already read the update announcement on the forums and knew that the sultry and sexy NPC in front of them was an important plot character, so they did not hesitate to accept the quest, and then picked up the Disaster Day main quest from Murphy, and then began to follow the route suggested by their group mates and started exploring towards the city.
It was now nighttime in the real world, and aside from these five players who had just come online for special reasons, most of the players had already used up their game time for the day, and had collectively laid down in the broken shacks of the city’s defense line.
This made the five small players feel a hint of loneliness, but soon they would have no time to be lonely.
Because there was just too much to do in the city ruins!
Although several blocks near the city walls had been scoured by the others during the day, there were still a lot of detailed areas that hadn’t been cleaned up here, and the careful Lumina quickly found the aged wine that Lady Tris needed in a half-collapsed store, and incidentally rescued the owner’s family from a basement that had been weighed down with debris.
They had been trapped for over six hours, and would have been tired, hungry and scared, and were close to kowtowing and thanking them when they were rescued by Lumina’s five men.
“This NPC interaction mode is so realistic, I just saw that little girl hiding in her mom’s arms and wiping her tears, other games don’t have this detail.”
The old dirt bike guy carrying a gun said to the shovel beside him as he scavenged the street:
“Do you think there could be a possibility that all the NPCs in this game are intelligently played . Shovel, what are you looking at? So out of it.”
The Shoveler who was asked pulled his gaze back from a miserable ruin as he whispered:
“It’s been over six hours since this town was dragged into disaster, hasn’t it? People trapped like this boss’s family could still be alive right now, but it’s hard to say if it’s been any longer. Remember those orders we made for the fire system earlier?
I heard them say that the probability of being alive after 24 hours in the real world is “
“This is a game!”
Dirtbike said with an unimpressed grimace:
“It’s a matter of a single line of code for them to survive, you’re thinking about it a little too much.”
“Yes, I know it’s a game, but this game claims to be completely realistic, don’t you ignore that! If the development team can really achieve 100% realism and they’re willing to design it that way, then the NPCs buried in the city definitely won’t survive until tomorrow night!”
Shovel shook his head stubbornly as he said:
“I don’t doubt that they have the technology to do the kind of realism they want, I doubt, well, just doubt oh, read this quest description carefully, that clearly says that the number of NPCs we rescue will affect the subsequent plot development.
I’m starting to suspect that this is a hole that the devs are burying, you know what I mean?
They purposely didn’t point this out, presumably because they wanted us to discover it on our own!”
“Shit! That kinda makes sense when you say it like that.”
Dirtbike pondered for a while and read the main quest instructions again and again, then slapped his knee hard and said:
“The two of us are probably going to be bullish this time, hurry up and go, explore the NPC’s mouth to go, call on the three of them together.”
“Uh-huh.”
Shovel went over and said his guess to Lumina and also Ring Rush as well as Black Silk Brother, the two brown men felt that Shovel’s oldest brother was thinking a bit too much, but Lumina didn’t think so.
The girl with a super high IQ felt that Shovel Lao’s guess should be right.
So the five of them windily escorted the store owner’s family back to the safe zone of the city wall, and after handing over the quest to Tris and receiving the other party’s high praise, they ran to Murphy, who was hunting those fear derivatives on his own, and told Murphy a whole bunch of their guesses and worries.
“It’s great that you guys noticed this, I also overlooked this important situation!”
Murphy was also shocked in his heart.
He suddenly realized that he had overlooked the truth of this world by substituting too much into the player’s mindset in the recent days, and to him, this was not even a game at all! These civilians trapped in the ruins of the city could never survive for more than two days when they were sleepy, hungry and eroded by the energy of the astral world.
And it was so out of character for him, a real vampire, to need the player to remind him of that.
Although Murphy didn’t care much about the life and death of the unfriendly people in the city, the unexpected thoughts that these five cuties brought to him inadvertently gave him new inspiration.
Just like his previous thoughts on top of the secret vault, the last part of the novice guide quest required Murphy to get his own exclusive territory, and in the present situation where the Blood Wyvern Clan had been raided and its ruling system had completely collapsed while Cadman City was about to be swallowed up by the Star Realm, the city’s manpower and material resources could be utilized for him!
He could take the opportunity of this rescue to utilize the indigenous manpower he currently had on hand, and just start with this rescue to establish his own prestige and governance system among the survivors of Cadman City.
After all, what could be more worthy of following than a leader who could bring everyone out of disaster and find a new life?
Murphy blinked.
He was still a full member of Clan Bloodwing.
In the current situation, as the last member of the vampire clan that had ruled this region for more than four hundred years, it was only right for him to inherit the Blood Vulture Clan’s rule over this land and its people, right?
Therefore, if everything was done correctly, this disaster that happened in Cadman City might not be a trouble for him personally, but instead could be the absolute key to completing the novice guide and breaking open the situation!
Yup.
This thought and plan was completely feasible!
The prerequisite was that he himself could actually lead the survivors to save more lives from the ruins as a way to let them visualize his abilities, intelligence and power.
Murphy had made up his mind in these few short seconds, and all the thoughts that passed over his expression were also noticed by the players, lifting their spirits.
Could it be that there really was a hidden quest?
“Ding.”
As Murphy gripped the arithmetic pearl hanging from his chest, a few seconds later, a wonderful quest triggering sound caused the five players to look down at their player interface in unison:
[Large-scale hidden mission – “Rescue from Dangerous City” has been triggered!
Mission Description: Thanks to your sensitivity and kindness, the indifferent but kind-hearted Vampire Murphy has finally realized the biggest hidden danger in the city, and has decided to take immediate action, and he hopes that you will also join him in this race against death.
Time Limit: Until the search and rescue of the outer city ruins is completed.
Reward: To be awarded according to the completion of the mission.
“Shit! There really is!”
Dirtbike clenched his fist fiercely as he whispered to Shovel beside him:
“That’s a deep hide, good thing you kept your eyes peeled.”
“It just came to me too.”
Brother Shovel was a bit embarrassed as he scratched his head, then said with a serious expression:
“The biggest problem right now is that we simply don’t have the specialized tools to look for those who are trapped, if we just rely on manpower to find them, even if we bring all sixteen players with us, we won’t be able to save a few people.”
“No, my warriors, you have overlooked a very important point.”
Murphy, who already had a plan and intended to put it into action at this time, shook his head as he said to his small players:
“There are forces in this world that you cannot comprehend, leave the matter of confirming the location of the survivors to me, you all rush to the survivor camp immediately! Pass on my orders to the supervisor there, Ms. Miriam, and ask her to gather all adult healthy males who are still able to move.
I need them to participate in this rescue of their fellow man.
Maxim!
You escort my warriors over there by the way to help Miriam gather those people.”
Murphy added to his loyal servants and small players:
“The restoration of order is not a simple matter, and as things stand we must learn to use violence.
Those who take advantage of the situation in the camp, those who are insubordinate, those who provoke Miriam’s majesty, those who intend to escape! Those black sheep who don’t intend to follow the rules under a disaster, in my name, execute them on the spot!
I need to show them who can lead them at this time!
I also need to show them that obeying my orders at this time can get them out of this nightmare faster.”
“Yes, my lord!”
Maxim felt that Lord Murphy had a very good point and accepted the order without any mental pressure, having always seen it as his duty and mission to spread Lord Murphy’s majesty, and then brought a few horses and handed them over to the young players.
The mudbloods, who could ride, went ahead with their shovels, and the other three were not quite so good, but these were docile old horses, and were well on their way under Maxim’s leadership. Miriam’s survivor camp was still a ways from the city as it was trying to avoid the onslaught of Astral energy.
Taking advantage of this time, Murphy found Missy who was emo at the edge of the defense line and Mrs. Adele beside her, the latter’s expression was very complicated when she saw Murphy, there was a voice in her heart that demanded that she give her full allegiance to Murphy, but the reasoning that originated from her own reasoning was obviously a bit resistant to this call.
But Murphy didn’t care about his first heir’s current hesitation.
He looked to the numb-faced Missy, combed through the draft he had made in his mind, and said to her:
“There are a lot of people trapped in the city who can’t afford to escape on their own, and I’m planning on organizing people to get them out. Not because they are so important to me, but the city of Cadman is the territory of the Blood Vulture Clan, and we, the members of the Blood Vulture, have a responsibility to them.
I would like you to join me!
The vampire’s keen sense of life allows us to pinpoint the location of the living very easily, and it’s still five hours before dawn, which is enough to save at least a few hundred people if we’re quick enough.
I remember when we first met, you praised me for the vengeance I carried out for the Blood Vulture’s lords, and you do consider it your duty to protect them, do you not?”
Missy did not answer.
Her entire body sat frozen on the stone as if she had lost her high beams, a state she had maintained since talking to Tris, and must have suffered a terrible blow because of the unacceptable things she had seen in the inner city.
Murphy waited a few seconds and when Missy didn’t answer he shook his head and got up to address Mrs. Adele:
“I demand that you join this operation! In the name of your honor.”
“Me.”
Mrs. Adele’s expression changed.
She clenched her fists, but then loosened them, bowed her head submissively, and said in a muffled voice:
“As you wish, Lord Murphy.”
“Let’s go, there isn’t much time.”
Murphy beckoned, leading Lady Adele over to Tris.
He needed to plan out three paths before moving to maximize efficiency, and the only thing he was thankful for right now was that the rift in the city split the entire city in two, leaving Murphy and the small players with only a quarter of the original city to explore.
Though that was a bit cruel to say.
But with the remaining three-fourths of the urban area completely engulfed by the horrifying Astral Energy plus the rampage of the Astral Beasts and Fear Derivatives, there was basically no need to look over there.
Unless a miracle happened in this dark place, it was impossible for any ordinary person to survive in that situation.
“Murphy!”
Just as Murphy turned to leave and walked out a few steps, Missy’s dry and hoarse voice came from behind him, the wretched and lost rich loli stood up straight, she looked at Murphy, the edge of the family, with a desperate gaze.
She said:
“The Blood Wyvern is finished . Literally! Our family sacred pool has been tainted, I have seen it with my own eyes, the entire Bloodwyvern Cloister is shrouded in dangerous energies I can hardly fathom, our most elite clansmen writhe in agony in the filth of the astral realm, they can’t get out of the Cloister.
They were hopeless!
There are only a few of us left, Murph, and we are the last of the Bloodwings.
We have no home!”
“No wonder she’s stricken like this.”
Murphy’s heart instantly realized that the eldest young lady who put the family’s interests first in everything was probably having a hard time accepting the fact that her home was gone for a while, but alas, not everyone could understand this kind of emotion of hers.
For example, Murphy
He twisted his head and glanced at Missy, aggravating his tone and said:
“Does this have anything to do with what you’re going to do now? Does it have anything to do with the civilians who are trapped in the city in fear of dying at any moment? Missy, you can go far away and no one can stop you.
Or, you could do one last thing for those in this city who had given their blood tax for the prosperity of the Blood Vulture Clan.
In fact, in my heart, I’ve always felt that you were out of place with the other vampires I don’t know why I thought that, but I could sense that your attitude towards humans was really different from the other vampires.
Maybe we could work together?”
“But what exactly are you going to do now?”
Missy snapped in a flash as she grabbed her hair and screamed:
“I heard everything you ordered your servants to do, you deliberately proclaimed your majesty and power among the survivors, what are you planning to do? To gather people? Are you going to build your own clan on the bones of the Blood Vulture?
You . Ambitious and traitorous!”
“I can’t believe she saw through it with a single glance… Was I too bad at pretending or does this great lady really have a knack for it?”
Murphy was a bit puzzled in his heart.
He felt that he had hidden his mind well enough, but when he associated it with the fact that the opposite party was perhaps a several hundred year old goblin, it all made sense.
His own little bit of Dao was really not enough to look at in front of others, so Murphy simply admitted it very baldly.
He nodded his head and said:
“I do intend to do so! I’ll be honest, Phimis, the Blood Wyvern Clan that you love and are willing to dedicate everything to is completely different in my eyes, and I don’t intend to be buried with it, but I do want to make sure that those who call you ‘masters’ can survive.
It doesn’t matter if you don’t want to help!
Just don’t add to the chaos, and I’m not afraid of you with Tris.
Also traitor?
Heh, I don’t know what happened to you in the Smuggler’s Woodlands, but how the hell did you survive? Missy, why did that horrible guy who slaughtered an entire army of Midnight Hunters leave you alone? It can’t be because you’re cute, can it?”
Murphy narrowed his eyes and asked rhetorically:
“So before standing on the moral high ground of the family and accusing me, please clear yourself of suspicion.”
“You you don’t spit blood!”
Phineas’ face went red.
She was about to retort when she realized that Tris stood ghostly in the darkness not far away, pointing at her heart with a certain strong threatening undertone.
The young lady who was still angry just a moment ago was like a deflated ball, her entire spirit weakened in Murphy’s astonished gaze.
She waved her hand feebly and said:
“Alright, I’ll help you, but I also have my demands! After the tides of the Star Realm have faded, you must make a trip with me to the Blood Wyvern Cloisters, I need to figure out a few things!
And in this matter, I can’t trust anyone but the last Blood Vulture members, that is, you and Adele.”
Ps:
There seems to be a “Reader Error Correction” feature now, so if you see a typo, just correct it, and I’ll see it in the background and fix it.
I really need this feature.
In addition, recently there seems to be a lot of fraudulent phone calls, I received five unfamiliar numbers yesterday, in short, everyone look after their own money, don’t just talk to strange strangers ow!
