345.Chapter 343 342 Wealth Prestige and Power! Want it?
Chapter 343 342. wealth Prestige and power! Want them? I left them at Fight Club, go get them!
“Maxim-sama is so protective! So unreasonable, but I like it so much!”
The girls who were hiding in the courtyard garden of Maxim’s temporary office at that very moment witnessed the whole conversation between Maxim and the Yankee officer.
After seeing the latter stagger away with his cheeks white with fear, Little Vikrama was the first to jump out, waving her fists and saying:
“I declare that I am now an honorable Transylvanian barbarian!”
“You? You’re a shrunken, small, adolescent monkey version of a barbarian at best.”
Lumina, who had also risen from the garden and easily silenced the impotent and raging pint-sized gunslinger with just her left hand, looked a little sheepishly at the criminals, who were tied to the gallows and were dancing with the wind, and whispered:
“This Maxim hits hard! Aside from the few guys who were ‘shredded’ with bullets by the little reed name, they were all still gasping for breath when we brought in the rest of the scum who had already surrendered and begged for mercy.
I thought they were going to be punished hard, but it turned out that I was overthinking it, and they were all sent to the gallows by the vampire.
Not even a decent trial.”
“Have you been living in the civilized world for stupidity? Don’t even look at what kind of environment this is, what kind of trial does this need?”
Next to her, Sister Pomegranate skimmed her lips and said:
“These thugs are carrying knives and breaking into our quarters armed and injuring people, look who dares to do such things in Scarlet Fort? This is Maxim here, if it was Lord Murphy, I guess these bastards wouldn’t even have a whole body left, and his Star Realm Summoners would have a full and extra meal tonight.
Although the Administrative Office had never come up with a law, it was clear that both Lord Murphy and Consul Miriam belonged to the kind of ruthless characters who would do anything to maintain order.
And I’ll be honest, in terms of the ‘hard work’ the Northmen have pulled off this time, if we don’t come up with some tough tactics on our side, just those two thousand criminals alone could turn the newly stabilized Transylvania upside down again.”
“Yeah, referring to the way Big Brother organized the occupants of the Gulag Hotel into a disciplinary battalion in World War II, I think Maxim’s handling of the situation is not only fine but also full of generalship.
Perhaps this was authorized by Lord Murphy?”
Lady Water stood beside the trio on her own scythe as she whispered:
“Thanks to that, I’m still feeling remorseful because I triggered all of this, but I didn’t realize that it was all in the calculations of the NPCs as well. I guess even without today’s ‘random event’, Maxim would have definitely found an excuse to come after this group of Yankee criminals hard, probably amounting to a ‘killing blow’?”
“You still say that.”
Garnet reached out with a disgruntled hand on Mrs. Water’s shoulder, and she said in an aggravated tone:
“As the weakest link in our little team, can you find someone to accompany you every time you go out? Also, when exactly are you planning to do your Black Iron Trial?”
“I’m preparing, don’t rush me.”
Lady Water said with a bitter face putting on a pitiful look:
“But I’m really not good at fighting ah, challenging elites or something sounds so scary.”
“Yes, for an Avalon Priest who can use human seduction techniques with her bewitching eyes and control four pugilists in the blink of an eye, this challenge is really ‘scary’ enough.”
Sister Pomegranate said in a long drawn out voice:
“No more stalling!
This time, go back and hurry up and pass the trial, I can see that you have a physique that attracts bees and butterflies, and in the future, there will be many more of these kinds of things in the game. Don’t let it really turn over in the gutter one day, I don’t want to see a raging rich wife-favoring demon with hundreds of bodyguards to block my door”
“Woman’s Mouth Bars.”
Mrs. Water shrugged and stopped resisting the whole thing.
The four of them left Maxim’s makeshift office in the night, and soon escorted the wagons and the Transylvanian exiles who had been summoned by the Batasin Chamber of Commerce out of the city of Batasin and towards the Scarlet Fortress.
This was the first time to explore the road, and if all went well, Ms. Parian would soon mobilize the power of the Chamber of Commerce to start recruiting exiles back home in a big way in the Kavhoka region.
As far as the Pride of the Silver Moon was concerned, their connection to this matter had already come to an end, however, this ripple triggered by the Lady of Water was only just fermenting. At least in the opinion of Maxim, who was appointed by Murphy to be in charge of receiving the captives, this matter is far from over.
He returned to his office, only to push open the door and see Lord Murphy, who had traveled all the way from the Westcoast Collar, and His Excellency Kudel sitting on chairs in his office waiting for him.
The loyalist immediately straightened his body and greeted His Excellency the Governor.
Murphy, on the other hand, waved his hand as he glanced down from the window at the bodies of the thugs hanging from the gallows in the backyard, and then at Maxim, saying:
“I rushed and still didn’t make it to the first outbreak of the conflict, but since you’ve already made your decision, then I guess you must already have a full set of ways to deal with it, so let’s hear it.”
“Yes, Master.”
Maxim returned to his desk, took the plan he’d made in his hands, glanced at it, organized his language, and addressed Murphy:
“While the matter of the Yankees handing us criminals mixed in with the captives made me realize that my perception of the moral fiber of the officers under the Wolf Woman’s command was still too high, it didn’t stop me from continuing my ideas.
I was going to start by dividing the group of captives.
Armed Bloodservants are a relatively safe labor force for us to use, I will make a formal conversation with those Bloodservants and if they are willing to be used by the Clan then I will set them up with an outlet.
Whether it be a collective farm, the arsenal that is being prepared for construction in the Andromeda Hills, or even a new recruit for the Kadman People’s Army can be chosen from amongst them.
The rest of those Yankee thugs are not the kind of labor we need!
We don’t have that much time to correct them, and we can’t place them close to the cities and farms lest they cause trouble, so I’m going to throw them straight to the Shadow Barony.
There they’ll start digging up a line of defense for the position directly in front of the Filthy Swamp.
It’s still more than four months before the Black Plague arrives, so if they don’t get lazy and combine that with the rapid construction techniques developed by the Stonemason Brotherhood, then we’ll be perfectly capable of having a sturdy defense line before the war breaks out.”
“So, you plan to use them as cannon fodder? A very prudent consideration, but not too mediocre.”
Murphy nodded and commented:
“I’ve heard a saying from my warriors that they’ll joke that even a used pair of underwear or a piece of toilet paper has its own value. Mark, just because these thugs are criminals and scum, you can’t ignore some hidden ‘sparkle’ in them that can be used by us.
The Scarlet Fortress is a city we built hand in hand together, and the rules there are the foundational laws that we all agreed upon, and Transylvania will open its arms to anyone who is unwelcome.
So my thought is that perhaps we can offer these thugs, who were thrown over like garbage by their own country, a chance to be human again.”
The Vampire Governor looked at Maxim as he said:
“Even if they can’t be allowed to join the military or official organizations, places like the Blood Rats and Fight Club will always have a need for these people who wander into the gray areas. We might be able to set up a net to ‘fish’ out the scum who have a bit of talent in the bunch.
Then throw the rest of the tasteless guys into the swamp side and let them dig in with the dogheads that are being sent over there by Hogg.
They’ll reform their wayward lives with labor and pay for the mistakes they made before with blood and sweat.
I know this will add to your workload, but we really need to unearth some talent that can stand on their own right now.”
“I am willing to take charge of the advancement of this matter, Master.”
Maxim immediately replied:
“But how are we going to give those thugs a chance? We don’t have enough manpower to sift through their origins and backgrounds, and Adele’s intelligence bureau is only in its infancy.”
“There’s no need for that complicated screening, Mark.”
Kudel, standing by the window, turned to Maxim and said facetiously:
“The situation with the thugs the Yankees have sent us is as bad as it can get, and under those circumstances any fellow who wants to get out of a gray future will do his best to chase any light that appears in front of him. So all you have to do is to suggest a selection criterion, and those who have it will jump out on their own.
As for those who are capable but unwilling to step forward in this situation, they are either harboring evil intentions or have completely lost hope in life and do not care about changes in the outside world.
Neither of these two types of people can be used for us, and arranging them to beat the dust on the construction site to redeem themselves is the best choice.” “I probably get it.”
Maxim quickly jotted down the suggestion in his own notebook.
He thought for a moment and addressed Murphy and Kudel:
“So, I’ll give those bastards a chance to prove their worth, as long as they can win three or more fights at Fight Club, then they can temporarily shed their criminal past and actually join our defense against the Black Plague as facilitators.
They’re convinced that they’re good at talking with their fists, so I’ll give them that chance! That way it won’t be so bad that those guys lose all hope and make a mess on the site.
This selection ceremony will also let those assholes know the rules of Transylvania, that this land will not fail those with real skills!
We can even make this selection system a long-term program!”
Seemingly inspired, Maxim closed his notebook and said to Murphy and Kudel who were watching him:
“Throw all those thugs into the construction site first, but then hold the ‘warrior selection’ twice a month, so that by the time the Black Plague breaks out, all the usable ones among them will have been scooped up after 8-9 selections.
We can also continue this system when the Goldfinch Kingdom returns the remaining 10,000 blood servants.
Use the same set of ‘labor points’ from the Administrative Division that has been used up to now to discipline them again! Give the remaining prisoners who can’t become warriors a long-term hope, and give them freedom after they reach a certain point limit.
This will not only ensure their motivation to work, but also allow your mercy and majesty to penetrate into their sinful hearts, so that even the harshest Blood Knights will not be able to accuse our Blood Vulture Clan of callousness and killing people in front of this system.
Using labor in conjunction with punishment might be a good way to punish the guilty.”
“Very well, I am satisfied with the program you have proposed, move forward with your idea.
I will submit this method of management you have come up with on your own to Professor Malcolm, and I’m sure he will also praise your wisdom and lament that you really learned something from all those history lessons he gave you.”
Murphy got up and patted Maxim on the shoulder as he said in a hushed voice:
“I’ve seen all the progress you’ve made, Mark, keep up the momentum and you’ll be on your own in no time. But there is one last thing .
The sense of ritual!
The rituals we’ve been emphasizing.”
The vampire lord said as he removed a laminated slip of paper from his own arms and shoved it into Maxim’s hand:
“I have prepared it for you, just read from the script in a moment.”
Maxim glanced at the writing on the note.
He wore a rather odd expression, well, it was a little bit of Lord Murphy’s little bit of mischief, wasn’t it?
—
Near midnight, the Yankee soldiers responsible for escorting prisoners and captives in the makeshift barracks outside of Batasin were evacuated early, which immediately sparked curiosity among the 6,500 or so men in the large camp.
Many of the prisoners, after repeated trials, felt that freedom had arrived, and were ready to escape from the camp and find a good place near Transylvania to “resume their old occupations.”
But many more did not move.
Especially those who used to belong to the Blood Vulture Clan’s armed blood servants, they and these criminals show a clear difference, even if there is no longer a guardian, these from the Great Wilderness of the bitter cold land back to the home of the blood servants did not make a big mess.
They stayed very silent in their assigned temporary barracks, praying to midnight and preparing to accept their fate.
Soon enough, the sounds of screams rang out around the camp, and the bursts of musket fire seemed so frightening under the darkness of the night that it made the prisoners who had not escaped the camp in the first place feel shaken to the core.
They knew at last that the Yankee evacuation did not mean that freedom had come!
The wily Transylvanians had made preparations in advance, and these merciless killings that were taking place under the night were the first step in making an example of them.
But to their surprise, not all the criminals who left the camp of their own accord were killed.
Only a very small portion of them actually hung up.
The remaining ones had retreated back into the camp under the pressure of the vampire’s godlike hunting and the bullets of the veterans of the People’s Army, and those who had been frightened gathered together were then followed by a psychic who threw out a cloud of blinding light hanging high in the night.
As the prisoners watched in horror, Maxim in heavy armor, carrying several heads, appeared in front of them against the backdrop of a hundred tough veterans advancing in single file.
“Article 13 of the Kadman People’s Army wartime regulations states that any soldier will be considered a deserter when he leaves the camp without the permission of his superiors! For deserters, Transylvania has always been shoot-to-kill!”
Maxim’s low voice echoed under the dark night, paired with the still dripping head in his hand it seemed oppressive.
And the commotion caused many of the Yankee prisoners hiding in the barracks to poke their heads out and gawk, all of them concerned about what kind of treatment they would be subjected to in a foreign land.
Most of these prisoners fit well with Maxim’s perception of criminals, revealing an aura that made them unpleasant and unwilling to approach, but the vampire’s senses made him notice that among the guys peeking out to observe, there were some who did have an obscure aura.
There were even a handful that could make him feel pinpricks of pressure.
“Master Murphy was right! There really is a big fish hiding in these guys.”
Mark narrowed his eyes, but he didn’t pay any attention to the prying eyes and continued to announce loudly:
“My name is Maxim! It is Baron Lim of the Transylvania Governor’s District as well as the Supreme Commander of the Kadman People’s Army, and I will be in charge of receiving and managing you all next. Please understand that this means that from this moment onwards, your life and death will be in my hands!
Therefore I hope that you will show me the respect I deserve and listen patiently to what I have to tell you next.
As part of the Nordoff Kingdom’s agreement to prepare for the war in Transylvania, you will be sent as basic laborers to build war fortifications at the front line of the Filthy Swamp.
According to the current terms and conditions set by the Scarlet Fortress Administration, each of you will need to accumulate 5000 labor points in your own work before you can be pardoned and set free.
You don’t need to worry about what 5,000 labor points means to you, as someone will naturally explain it to you when you arrive at the fortifications.
Now I would like to announce another piece of news that is closely related to the fate of you scum!
You’d all better listen up!”
Mark said in an aggravated voice:
“The only concept that I have come here tonight to deliver with blood and death to you scum is this, that the Transylvanian Governor’s Quarter will open its arms to all who are able and worthy.
We never cared who you were in the past, we only cared who you wanted to be in the future!
The ground beneath your feet represents death and new life, the end and the beginning, the only difference is how you want to spend the rest of your meaningless lives.
Wealth, power, status or respect from others, whatever it is you scum want, you will find it in Transylvania.
Governor Murphy has placed all of these things that you chase and desire in a place called ‘Fight Club’, and as long as you can rely on your own two fists to get there, you can make a clean break with your past lives of failure.
But I want you to be ready.
Weaklings and cowards will not live long on this earth!
That’s all!
I’m not interested in talking to you any more, now get your asses back to your barracks, and someone will lead you where you belong at dawn.
Of course, you may also attempt to escape.”
Maxim paused as he said in a louder voice that could be heard by almost everyone in the entire barracks:
“As long as you think you’re lucky enough to escape from the Blood Vulture Clan’s territory! Give it a try, wretches, and I will gladly play this game of ‘lose or die’ with you.”
Ps: thanks to “who else and I rob” brother’s alliance reward, currently owed 20 chapters, next month should be able to take care of, in addition to begging for a monthly votes, this month to 20,000 votes, next month there are monthly votes plus more ten chapters.
