328. Chapter 326: 325 The Decision of the Crowd for “Starsfallin
Chapter 326: 325: The Decision of the Crowd – For Brother Starsfalling [115
“Old Edward sent a faction made up entirely of Blood Wyvern renegades to ambush a House Carpe transport on the Transylvanian border? How does this Ancient One always manage to pull off such unexpected and bad things?
Can the truth of this news be ascertained?”
Murphy quickly got the news of what happened at the border from Firmis’ report, and he personally wasn’t surprised by it; after all, the feud between the Blood Vulture and the Wolfsbane made it unsurprising that the two sides would do anything to each other.
He was just puzzled as to why old Edward would make such a choice at this time.
That Ancient One Clan Chief had clearly maintained a superficial peace with the Blood Vulture Clan just now under the coordination of Venerable Lord Pa Ying, was he deliberately provoking Venerable Lord Pa Ying?
“This is the information I dug out of the Wolf Vulture Clan’s vanguard leader’s head using some ‘secret techniques’ I learned from the Blood Alliance Knight’s torturers, it’s information that can’t be faked unless they implanted false information in that guy’s head ahead of time.”
Femis replied with great certainty:
“But it’s doubtful whether it was a direct order from old Edward or not, I personally doubt that this is a ‘solo walk’ like the previous Gray Claw faction’s operation. And the dominant one is Lady Cecilia, who has just led the traitors into the Wolfsbane Clan.
That’s right, it’s my mother who’s gone mad.”
“Right.”
Murphy played with the core jewel.
Although Phineas didn’t say it explicitly, he could already understand that Phineas wanted to obtain some kind of “permission” from him by reporting this matter.
In terms of this matter itself, Murphy definitely could not let it go unchecked, not to mention the terms of cooperation between the Capet family and the Scarlet Fortress through Major Fraser, just the production lines carried by this transportation team were important resources that Murphy could not give up.
The selection of the site for the Transylvania National No.1 Arsenal has already been completed, and is now waiting for the production lines to be in place to start producing weapons for Murphy’s army.
This was the most important matter related to the defense against the Black Plague, so this transport team had to be saved!
But Femis now meant that she wanted to take the lead in this matter, which made Murphy a bit hesitant.
He didn’t doubt Missy’s determination.
He was just worried that Missy might be “seduced” by her mother, who was now surely in the arms of the Dusk, and if Lord Payeng was so cautious when it came to Dusk-related matters, Murphy felt justified in being even more cautious himself.
“I’m guessing you wouldn’t agree even if I asked you to come back right now, would you?”
Murphy asked.
There was a delay in getting back Missy’s answer from the jewel, and that silence would have declared her resolve, so Murphy didn’t try to persuade her any further, he reached out his finger and drew a circle on the table and said in a gentle tone:
“I will ask Kudel and his escorts to go forward to aid you, besides that is something that happened on the border of the Sicorian territory, so Knight Valander and his winged cavalry have a good reason to be involved as well. I can leave this in your hands, Phimis.
But I have one request.”
“Go ahead.”
Relieved on Missy’s end, she asked, and then heard Murphy say to her:
“You are not to track down that ‘Lady Cecilia’ on your own, that is not a request but an order! In fact I now suspect that there may be a purpose in the advancement of this matter that is precisely intended to bring about a reunion between you and your mother.
I have concealed nothing from you in regard to your father.
I have good reason to believe that your mother has gone mad, nay, that she has done something beyond the realm of ‘madness’, and that the source of all that she has done is to snatch you back from Salokdar.
You need to understand the possible risks involved in this matter.
No one knows what kind of ‘gift’ your mother received from Dusk, and I can’t let my friend and important member of the family just step into the trap alone.
It must be Kudel who acts with you!
If you break that rule, then I will not give you any more privileges or even let you participate in anything related to your mother in the future.”
“I agree and can fully understand that.”
Missy didn’t insist more on the restrictions Murphy had given her.
She simply agreed to Murphy’s request and then informed Murphy of the location and information where the Wolfsbane Clan would be launching their ambush.
The vampire lord recorded this information, then hung up the communication and tried to contact Major Fraser again after a brief moment of thought, but was unable to connect. Probably because the communication distance was too far beyond the limit of what the arithmetic pearl could communicate with, which made Murphy have to shift the communication to another guy he disliked very much.
After a ten-odd second wait, the vibration of the Core Treasure Pearl signified the completion of the communication connection, and the rather disgruntled voice of the Half Dwarf Marshal rang out from it with a wave of chiding:
“I’m busy! Pussy Murphy, if you reach out to me just for something ridiculous, I’ll have your comm access removed from me immediately.
Therefore, you still have a chance to apologize.”
“I don’t think I should apologize for that, so there is indeed something about to happen that will bring shame to your face.”
Murphy didn’t want to fight with this stubborn and careful Dwarf Marshal, so he was very straightforward in informing the news of the Wolfsbane Clan’s ambush on the Carpe Clan’s transportation team.
He said:
“Although this ambush will take place within Transylvania and I have already prepared for it, shouldn’t Your Excellency the Marshal review your previous promise? You said that all actions regarding the Wolfsbane Clan in your defense zone would be handled by you, but I have seen with my own eyes that this is not the case.
At the same time that I was dryly resolving the threat of the Gray Claw faction, you let a bunch of Wolfsbane pups cause friction on the border between the two sides.
I did what I promised, but you broke your word.
So am I to understand that your control of the situation in East Prussia is beyond your ability? Or maybe the actual ability of Marshal ‘Steelheart’, whose reputation is rumored throughout the continent, is no more than that?
If that’s the case, then I don’t mind sending my warriors to help you eliminate those clowns that shouldn’t exist in the preparation for the war.
After all, seeing as we’re all about to fight side by side against the Black Plague, Scarlet Fortress has an obligation to provide assistance to the backward forces.
So, the question arises, do you and your legions really need my help?”
“So you contacted me tonight just to humiliate me?”
Marshal Loren said rather irritably:
“What makes you think that those wolfsbane pups entered Transylvania through my defense zone? Your place is literally leaky on all sides, and they had plenty of ways to sneak in. I have no problem with my defense zone! Kid.
You’ve said what you had to say, now tell me what the hell you want me to do for you?”
“We can take down those ambushers, but not enough to surround and destroy them, and frankly, I’m tired of having a bunch of ungrateful wolfsbane scumbags jumping all over my territory when I’m so busy.
I think you’re probably the same way.”
Murphy whispered:
“I just wanted to invite you along on the hunt until tomorrow night, I mean, now that they’re here. They say that the friendships of men who have hunted together are always stronger, so I’m eager to maintain a nice personal relationship with you as well.
Also, I would like to ask once again about when exactly the armed blood servants seized in your hands will be returned?
I’m really short on manpower right now.”
“Within a month, it would have been sent over a long time ago but my general suggested that I ration an extra batch of military supplies to you so there was a delay, but the good news is that you are about to have a small artillery force .”
Marshal Loren gave a definitive time as he said:
“Those guys will be following the ‘military observer mission’ we sent into Transylvania, and as if we had made an agreement earlier, this mission will be in charge of commanding the border guards that will be coming into your territory afterwards.
You can’t interfere with their command.”
“I’m not a commander or a soldier, and I’m not going to make a fool of myself.”
Murphy’s tone changed to a lighter one as he said in a tactful tone:
“Then, let’s have a good hunt tomorrow night, you’d better make sure again that your defense zone is really fine.”
Before he could finish his words, the communication from the Core Treasure Pearl was disconnected.
Obviously Marshal Loren was not interested in discussing this professional issue with Murphy.
However, within ten minutes after this “psychic phone call”, the five officers in charge of border patrol at the Pioneer Fortress were called to the marshal’s office for a scolding.
Obviously on the issue of how the Wolfsbane vampires crossed the border, Marshal Loren was not as confident as he appeared to be.
But it wasn’t the marshal’s incompetence that was to blame.
It’s because the vampire’s unique “blood servant culture” is too lethal when used to do bad things in hiding, the marshal can’t just raid every civilian and vagabond in his own defense zone as a potential blood servant, right?
Whether it’s the officers looking to make amends after the fact, or the Marshal using his army out of shame, it’s basically certain that after tomorrow night the were-vampires plotting something bad won’t be able to get out of the area alive.
This is exactly what Murphy wanted to achieve with this “psychic phone call”.
Transylvania has a lot of problems at the moment, and he really doesn’t want to be distracted by problems from within the vampire clan.
After completing his exchange with Marshal Loren, Murphy got up in his office.
He took out a set of midnight cloak from the closet and tied it around his shoulders, and hung the miser’s hunting crossbow and tamer’s long whip from the weapon rack around his waist, and was about to go out the door when he saw the office door being pushed open while Tris, who was holding her arms, appeared in front of him.
“You’re going over there yourself?”
The Archduke asked:
“Because it involves Cecilia? You’re worried that Phemis will step into a trap?” “I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t worried.”
Murphy didn’t hide it, he said frankly:
“Only Phimis and Adele know what kind of person Lady Cecilia used to be, but I can be sure that after she threw herself into Dusk’s plans she has become one of the most dangerous existences on this continent.
I can’t in good conscience sit back and watch Firmis face this threat alone.
I’m even now wondering if there was another force behind your theft of the Seed of Life over two hundred years ago.
This sounds a bit unreal.
But I’d rather visualize the Dusk a bit more than that, lest I underestimate them, and as this may be our first head-on encounter with the Dusk, I must be present.
Femis and Kudel in the light, me in the dark.
This will maximize the assurance that nothing will go wrong.”
“You’re always so cautious when it comes to protection regarding your own people.”
Tris sighed as she said:
“Just a few moments ago, that falcon of the Valander Knights delivered a letter to Natalie, that little Sherron is inviting the head of the witch hunters to their mountain forest to participate in the ceremony of her re-finding of the Spirit of the Mountain Forest.
You may travel with Natalie.
I suggest you take Eugene and Marianne with you, those two experienced master witch hunters can serve as effective force fillers in the face of vampire kills.
I will not be joining the operation.
I’m going to step up my efforts to decipher the mysteries of the Command Staff to help keep your jackals and warriors safe as they enter the Tainted Swamp.
Murph, I don’t know if you feel that way.
But Dusk.
The more I’ve been exposed to information about them, the more I’ve come to feel that these guys might want more than just the Black Plague spreading across the continent, that they want something far more horrific.
Just like the little bit of information that little Sherron harvested from old Earl Siko.
It was a group of madmen who viewed this Era as a mistake, and they held frightening power in their hands. The layers they have set up in Transylvania make even an old vampire like me feel danger and fear.
I wasn’t trying to hide it.
In fact, I’ve thought more than once of escaping with you here, and I doubt we can win.”
“You’re not old, you’re in the most beautiful time of your life.”
Murphy stepped forward with a smile and took Tris, who was showing a rare display of weakness and concern, into his arms, he patted Tris’s shoulder gently and said:
“Whatever they are, whatever they want, the moment they were pulled out of the shadows by us, their greatest dependence crumbled and dissipated.
The devil cannot have a face! That would only point the heroes to the target of their crusade, and now the devil called Dusk has a face that can be traced by us.
Lady Cecilia is a perfect entry point, along with the mysterious ‘source’.
We will win, I promise you.
Even if we end up with a bad move, I won’t let you go alone.”
Tris didn’t respond.
She pressed her head against Murphy’s chest, listening to the slow beat of that vampire’s heart, and only after several minutes of maintaining such silence did she say in a muffled voice:
“Why didn’t you show up sooner? Showed up earlier in my life, that might have given me more courage to face the whacks and provocations from fate.”
“Those beautiful things are so precious precisely because they require patience, not to mention, it’s not too late.”
Murphy said as he lowered his head and placed a soft kiss on Trish’s hair:
“There is still plenty of time for us to walk hand in hand together until the end, I confirm this, it was you who brought me back to earth from the most downtrodden of fates, you have been my deepest connection to the world, like a beacon for lost things, you were never just as simple as a sultry goddess that needed to be wooed to me .
As much as it is tempting to continue to converse with you so tenderly, it is late, Tris, and it is time for me to depart.”
“Uh-huh.”
Tris tilted her head and offered to leave a kiss on Murphy’s cheek, then watched him disappear into the shadows of the Blood Wyvern Cloisters, Tris stood in place for several minutes before returning to her office.
Murphy’s tenderness seemed to have made her finally make up her mind to face the “monster” that she had molded with her own hands in her past life.
She took the pearl bracelet representing the Source in her hand and activated a hidden spell in it with a rather complex maneuver.
The psychic energy began to vibrate.
It wove a stream of information across space in a way that even Tris had never seen before.
“Christine! I know you’re listening.”
Tris said in a muffled voice:
“Let’s meet.”
There was silence in the office until nearly ten seconds later when a muffled voice came from that distant place, more like a whimper on the wind than words.
“You have a murderous heart, and you make me feel as if I were revisiting the rise of the long-dormant Scarlet Witch, and it seems that I have angered you, my horrible honor, and that you have resolved to get rid of me but only for a foolish feeling.
You have drunk the poison called love, and have become too cowardly and sensual and stupid.
You have become what you warned me not to be.
A weak, ordinary man.
Well, we shall meet, Tris-sama.
Not now, not here.
Just be patient.
We’ll see you again eventually!”
“I’m warning you! Stay away from Murphy.”
Tris chortled over there.
But it was only met with a light chuckle in response, and after it fell, the voice resumed:
“Of course, I would never go against your wishes, just as I offer you all my loyalty, and we can certainly ignore the host of problems Murphy has caused. Just join us, as long as you are willing to embark on the path of destiny that is yours.”
“Don’t even think about it!”
Tris refused dryly:
“I won’t fall in the same gutter twice.”
“Well, then I hope your sweet little male favorite fends for himself, love, that has made the once unbeatable you now full of weakness.”
She was clearly provoking, but Tris wasn’t tempted.
Instead, she frowned tightly as she sensed the vibrations of the psychic energy, the wisdom belonging to the psychic master whirling around in her mind even causing Tris’ eyes to glow with visions like red arcs of electricity.
After a three second interval, Tris let out a long breath.
She said:
“Ice Bay . Nolto Sea Cliffs . Gotcha! Remember the first psionic tracking lesson I gave you? Little elf girl, while you’re watching me through this bracelet, I can sense you too!”
“!!!”
“Swish.”
The Serenade Scepter flew into the palm of her hand, pulling open a chasm to the source of the psychic vibrations as Tris waved it around.
In the instant the dragon wing-like blood wings opened, a terrifying spiritual energy lightning that was large enough to cover half of the city was fiercely slammed by Cuise who crossed the rift into the cold wind blowing, snow drifting sea cliffs and lonely fortress below.
In the next instant, scarlet thunderstorms rose up in the snow, crushing the upper third of the isolated fortress.
“Where to run! Little bitch!”
“Boom.”
