Chapter 3 3 Your name is Shetter? Well, that’s a great name.
Chapter 3 3. Your name is Shetter? Well, that’s a good name.
Upon hearing the slightly accented “hometown language”, Murphy immediately realized what he had summoned, and a wave of ecstasy washed over him.
Although it wasn’t the Burning Titan that he expected to be holding a huge sword and always ready to destroy the world, in a sense, these two guys in front of him represented an existence that was even more terrifying than the World-Destroying Titan.
However, they called themselves NPCs?
So in their eyes, this was a game?
Heh, what mortal wisdom!
Murphy had already lived here for a month, and he was certain that this was by no means a virtual game, it was the real deal Otherworld, and thus theoretically these two little players were considered to be experiencing a journey across the world.
And the best part was that they themselves didn’t know this.
In this one instant, Murphy, who squinted his eyes, had already sketched out nearly hundreds of thousands of words of subsequent arrangements in his mind, but he immediately calmed down.
The most important thing right now was to stabilize these two guys and continue to deepen their stereotypes before they were shocked by the truth.
It’s like the first conversation a new employee has when they start!
Drawing a big, round pie was the foundation, and a little more advanced could be talking about ideals and ambitions and whatnot, as a social person who had been in society for more than ten years, Murphy simply had a clear understanding of this.
【Newbie Orientation Quest (1/6): Initial Summoning (Completed)
Reward: Test invitation code replenished to 10.
Tip: Invitation code is currently used 2, is the remaining invitation code issued?
Developer’s Note: Some things are not the more the better, just as other things are not the bigger the better, sometimes small is also very cute, more often than not you have to go step by step, you can’t just see a hole and think of rushing into it in a hurry.
I could go on and on, but I think you get my point].
“Hair! Why don’t you send it?”
Seeing the prompt in front of him, Murphy immediately chose to send out all the remaining 8 invitation codes, what’s enough for 2 small players in the district?
He couldn’t even afford to brush a copy!
When the natives saw it, they thought that Murphy couldn’t summon more small players with spirit, and now that he is shouldering a mission to send life, the more helpers he has, the better.
However, after confirming the send, Murphy’s “Otherworldly Creature Summoning” display is still [2/2].
It seems that the recruitment of “testers” also needs time, although I do not understand how this thing should work in the world of these players, but that is obviously not a problem that Murphy needs to consider now.
[Novice Orientation Mission (2/6): Command the testers to complete the initial basic tests (walking, jumping, attacking, and daily actions), test duration: 30 minutes.
Reward: new features unlocked.
Developer’s Note: There are always all kinds of bugs and all kinds of complainers in the initial stage of a project, but don’t panic when you encounter a problem, take a deep breath first, you can’t solve it anyway, so just make up a lie to round it off.
This should not be difficult to defeat you, right?
“Ahem.”
Murphy skimmed his mouth and coughed making the two small players who were bouncing in place looking at everything with curiosity look at him.
It was true that these two guys needed to be reigned in!
The shorter one was being conservative and trying to take off the boxers that came with the game, while the taller one had already run off to rummage through the basement trash cans.
Hell, what else can you find in there but Tris’s bottles? Are you going to collect all seven bottles to summon the King of Scum to fulfill your wish of becoming an otherworldly scum?
Don’t get carried away, man. You’ve got a living example in front of you!
“Jiejiejie this time the quality of the summons is unexpectedly good.”
Murphy sneered with the characteristic gloomy voice of vampires.
His eyes flashed with light in the dark basement, the throbbing scarlet color made the short player shrink his head and sputter that it was kinda oozing.
Wasn’t that nonsense?
Ordinary people who encountered a real vampire like Murphy in a dark basement would have been scared to death long ago, that is, the small player who was not afraid of the sky and the earth was still in the mood to flirt with a few words.
“Rude and nasty guy, stand still for me!”
Murphy picked up the NPC’s accent, holding the hilt of his sword with his hand, and with a flick of his right hand, a weak cloud of dark spiritual energy gathered in his fingers to form a spark that flew out, startling the player who was rummaging through the trash can.
“Listen! I’m preparing for something big, unfortunately this world is full of stupid people, I can only explore towards the otherworld, you two are a bit weaker, but you seem pretty smart.
Might be able to help.”
The vampire pulled his hood downward in an effort to create an air of a dark creature.
He rubbed his chin and said:
“But I need to see if you are healthy, energized and sharp enough first, I don’t want scraps. If you don’t pass my test, then I’m going to offer you up to that horrible bloodsucking banshee upstairs as ‘spare blood bags’.”
He intimidated the two smaller players for a moment, but failed to feel fear on the other’s face at all, which caused a moment of frustration before he waved his hand and turned around:
“Let’s move around here for now, this aged place is barely habitable, but I don’t have time to personally explore the secrets that have been hidden here for over 300 years.
Go find it.
Use your wits and meet me up here in 30 minutes with the most valuable items.
This is the first test.
Oh, by the way, remember my name, and remember the being who summoned you from the other world to this fresh world.
My name is Murphy!
Ravenel Murphy Le Sombra.
Your guide and your shelter, your beginning and your destination!”
After saying that, Murphy also ignored the two small players who were still frozen, and disappeared as fast as a ghostly shadow in the darkness of the night to the entrance of the basement.
The door of the room slammed shut, and the unlucky vampire who was playing an NPC for the first time gasped violently.
“This running away after pretending can be really exciting.”
He said so, and then shortened down to lie on the basement doorway to look inside through the gap in the wall, the two small players were already busy by now, and began to rummage around in the huge basement.
Murphy didn’t lie to them either.
This basement was as old as this manor, 300 years of history was a breeze, but to say something valuable was definitely not there.
But this activity of theirs was enough to fulfill their own second novice guide quest.
Murphy soon had a headache again, how should he explain to the owner of this place, Ms. Tris, the origin of these two “otherworldly creatures”?
Or just say that they are his own blood servants?
However, the players’ behavioral patterns and their language were not compatible with the world, so he had to let the two little players pretend to be mute.
Speaking of which, I haven’t even asked them their names yet.
How rude!
As an NPC this was also too unqualified, theoretically, even if the player named himself Shetter, he would have to be full of smiles and exclaimed what a great name it was.
Forget it, this is better to make up for it later.
Murphy quickly walked back to the main mansion intending to pack up his things, but the vampire just entered the house and saw that Tris wasn’t resting, but instead was uncharacteristically standing by the window.
She was like a statue, looking out of the window at the scenery of Cadman City, not even noticing the annoying sunlight shining on her fingers.
Wisps of gray smoke were rising from Tris’s white fingers, the precursor to a vampire being burned by the sun.
“What are you doing? Is this finally realizing how much of a failure your life is so you’re going to commit fancy suicide and delete your number and start over? It’s late! It’s five hundred years too late, so please just live.”
Murphy stepped forward quickly and pushed Tris away from the window with one hand, and with another swish pulled the blinds down, dimming the entire room at once.
“Ahem.”
A violent cough issued from the mouth of the awakened Tris, and Murphy asked softly while picking up a handkerchief to wrap her burned fingers:
“The wound hurts again?”
“Not bad.”
Ms. Tris was indifferent, like she had already gotten used to the pain, she wanted to wrap it herself but she was weak and needed Murphy’s assistance to complete the action.
Murphy knew exactly why Tris was weak.
It was a month ago.
Unwilling to be an invalid, the true-vampire Murphy had an accident in the basement of the manor while attempting a dangerous psychic summoning ritual out of nowhere.
Raging psychic energy from the astral realm nearly tore him apart whole.
Tris, who happened not to be drunk that day, desperately tried to save her heir from the psychic energy burst, at the cost of the venerable elder’s already poor health deteriorating once again.
To be precise, however, True Murphy, who had tried to change his fate against all odds, had begged for mercy and hung up in that failed ritual. What Tris had saved was another person.
But without her, Murphy would have gone down in history as the first unlucky vampire in history to die of anemia and thus go down in history because he bled out the night he crossed over.
Because of this, Murphy had worked hard to serve Tris for the past month, and he was a person who knew how to repay kindness, not to mention this kind of life-saving favor.
It is said that in times of trouble see true love, on the first time into the other world Murphy and Tris this month of “down and out cohabitation” is also enough to let him on this unreliable honored elders to produce a kind of “dependence on each other’s life” emotion. After all, back up a thousand steps, although this house is broken, but not to let Murphy run to sleep on the street is not it?
At this moment, the former Blood Wyvern Elder looked at Murphy, who was lowering his head to bandage her fingers, and the dilapidated house fell silent for a while.
One could almost hear the sound of heartbeats.
Vampires also had a heartbeat, it was just much, much slower than ordinary people.
After ten seconds or so, Tris spoke:
“I was just reminiscing about my life in the last hundred years or so, little Murphy, I had first embraced so many people, the vast majority of them were driven out of Transylvania to fend for themselves, a small number of them struggled to survive in the Blood Vulture Clan but did everything they could to disassociate themselves from me, the invalid, but accidents would always find them.
I can remember a time when I relied on giving those who feared death their first embrace in exchange for a cushy life, and so they called me ‘Tris with an eye for money’.
I’ve met all kinds of people, but you’re the only exception.
Little Murphy, you’re the only one who has stayed by my side and taken care of me like a blood servant, and it seems to make me feel like living the mundane, but cozy life that those silly mortals crave so much.
However, it is time for you to go.
You’ve grown up.
You should learn to stay away from danger, as well as misfortune.”
“But how can you walk long distances in this condition?”
Murphy instantly picked up on what Tris was saying, but the cunning sociopath chose to play dumb, glancing at Tris, who was having trouble even standing up on her own, and shaking her head:
“Don’t worry, I asked the guys who sent me to my death for some blood servants, and will leave a few to take care of you while I’m gone.
It’s a dangerous job, but I think I can make it back alive.
Once you’re better, we’ll discuss where to go next.”
“Pfft.”
Murphy’s reply caused Ms. Tris to round her eyes, then cover her mouth and burst out laughing.
She meant to let Murphy go alone, but this little guy actually wanted to take her, a big burden, along with him, what a naive and adorable young man.
“What are you laughing at?”
Murphy asked without a trace of anger, and Tris waved her hand and said:
“Nothing, just thought of something funny, well, this suit of mine fits you quite well, what a handsome face. Hmm? What’s all the noise downstairs?
A burglar in the house?
That’s nice!
Now we’ll have dinner!
Ah, thanks to the gift of the Mother of Darkness! Consider today an early Feast of the Holy Blood.”
Tris got excited when she heard the sounds from the basement and bared her blood-sucking canines at the corners of her mouth, but Murphy immediately stopped it and waved his hand, saying:
“It’s nothing, that’s the bloodsuckers I’m coming to clean up, don’t worry about them, get some rest and be up and about by nightfall, I’ll have dinner ready for you before I leave.
I’ll be back in a week at the most, I promise.
Don’t you dare drink too much.”
He assisted Tris back to the bedroom on the second floor of the room and covered the windows tightly again before retreating to pack his own bags.
Thirty minutes later, Murphy stood at the basement entrance, looking at the two small, god-fearing players who had turned in their belongings.
Two unopened bottles of dwarven ale.
Looking at the labels they were 250 years old, perfect for honoring Tris.
A fine set of drinking utensils in a rotting box, not sure where they came from, but they look a bit elven in art style, probably left here by the mansion’s previous owner.
Lastly, a worn out pocket watch with a dented case.
Murphy recognized it.
It was the thing that True Murphy had dropped in the basement the night he’d been psychically blown up, and it still had blood stains left on it.
But those three things weren’t even the most dramatic.
He glanced at the pile of coins at his feet, which contained several golden Portia gold coins in addition to rusted copper pieces and dull silver coins.
This made Murphy’s eyes look suspiciously at the panting two small players, really wondering where on earth they found these things?
The things he had found in the manor after living here for a month were not as much as what these two guys had found in 30 minutes.
So, was this the talent of players as terrifying as it was?
“Not bad, you guys did a great job! I’m impressed with you now, warriors of the Otherworld.”
Murphy pulled back his hood, revealing his handsome face, and said to the two players in a pleasant manner:
“I have seen your keen potential, and you are just the help I need! Now, return to your worlds and prepare yourselves!
After I have made all the preparations, I will call upon you and the otherworldly spirits I have chosen once again. At that time, you will be honored to participate in my grand plan!
Oh, I look forward to meeting you all again.
By the way, what are your names?
Please understand, but I must record this moment for those bards to sing of the beginning of my legend with you a hundred years from now.”
Facing Murphy’s inquiry, the two players looked at each other, puffed out their chests and said loudly in unison:
“My name is ‘King Woo Meow’!”
“My name is ‘Lead Big Pigeon’!”
“Worthy of being my chosen little player, this name is really sandy enough! Full of abstract beauty.”
Murphy viciously spat in his heart and nodded in passing, but he nodded with satisfaction on the surface, and with the decency that an NPC should have, he said with a smile on his face:
“What a nice name, it goes quite well with your sharpness and bravery, then, my warriors, we’ll see you afterward.”
He raised his hand, dismissing the summons.
The bodies of the two players flew into points of light and disappeared before his eyes, as if they had appeared as a rewinding of their psychic weave, and eventually all that was left was a cloud of light swirling around Murphy as he landed on the ground.
[Novice Orientation Quest (2/6): Basic Operation Test (Completed)
Reward: Perception Detection function unlocked.
Tip: You can now detect targets and obtain certain information, but this operation can be sensed and thus has a certain degree of danger.
Developer’s Note: There are two prerequisites to use this ability well; first, you cannot be a paladin! Second, you can’t be in the habit of kicking in tavern doors.
Of course, if you’re powerful enough and don’t resist deleting and retraining, then I’ll forget about the above.
[Newbie Orientation Quest (3/6): Initial live combat, commanding testers to perform a live combat basic operation test (including, but not limited to, items such as attacking, dodging, charging, dying and releasing souls, etc.)
Reward: Test Invitation Code +5, new features unlocked.
Developer’s Note: Now that you’ve learned to walk and jump, go slay a dragon and try it out now].
“? The difficulty of this quest has spiked, and what the hell kind of instructions are these? Heh, Master is in a good mood right now, so I won’t get into it with you.”
Murphy skimmed his mouth and looked around, then bent down and picked up the pile of money on the ground, humming out of the manor to buy some food and wine, lest “King of the Wastrels” Tris starve herself to death during the time he was away.
The unlucky vampire walked in the shadows at the base of the wall, hiding from the sunlight, his steps light, and he smiled from the bottom of his heart, nodding his head in greeting to everyone who passed by.
The main attraction was a classy one.
In his mind, however, Murphy smiled an indulgent smile:
“The little players are so good, it’s really a must-have for traveling at home and killing people, although I don’t know what my big plan is yet, but with you guys, why would this master worry about not accomplishing great things, pinch hahaha!
Tremble, world!
A legend will rise from this night!”
