Chapter 415.
Chapter 415 – The Connection
Boom!
A thunderous roar exploded deep within his consciousness, and Maurice lost control of his state almost instantly – even in the sheltered state of isolating his primary consciousness and solidifying his mind, he was still swept away by the spreading shock that swept through his mind, and staggered in the shock of the shockwave of information that followed it!
In an instant, his “psychological perspective”, which stood at the back of his body, rotated, and he could no longer see the words in his mind’s eye, but only felt an endless fog swirling and rising, while the words and phrases he had just read seemed to be like an out-of-control swarm of bees that were pounding and gnawing all over his memories, tearing away parts of his personality. In part, he even forgot his own name for a moment, and the only thing left in his mind was the name that he had seen in the last second of his life – the
The Profound Holy Lord.
However, in the next moment, this feeling of heavenly rotation was suddenly stopped by something, and Morris felt that his consciousness was dragged back to the real world by an incomparably powerful force, and in the process of this “dragging back”, he saw that there were many arrays of blinking lights in the fog, and in the middle of those lights, there was a red light source surrounding the largest one. In the middle of the many lights, there was the biggest red light source.
It was as if Rahm, the God of Wisdom, was casting a glance at him, but in the next moment the arrays of lights quickly dissipated and turned into a huge wave;
Immediately after that, the giant wave was transformed into a piece of pale dust and smoke that collapsed before his eyes, and the delicate pale ashes, like the ashes of the saints, fell down to him in an ocean;
Subsequently, those pale dust and smoke burned up in mid-air, turning into a falling rain of fire, which condensed countless streams of blinding and crimson flames, as if they were going to incinerate him as if they were raging towards him!
But just before the crimson flames fell on his body, Maurice saw that all the fire was suddenly tinted with a layer of green – the raging and bursting fire became mild in an instant, and a little bit of it fell beside his body, and one of the flames touched his shoulder, and he immediately felt that someone heavily patted him, and the next second, he violently Opened his eyes, and realized that he had returned to his own body.
The effects of consciousness isolation and mind curing had been forcibly ended, and he himself had once again returned to this world from the critical state of madness.
As soon as he regained consciousness, Maurice resisted the urge to take another look and closed the large black book in his hand with all his might.
His movements were quick, but even so, the book still violently turned a few pages before closing, and in a flash of light out of the corner of his eye, some shaky words were reflected into Morris’s field of vision with an extremely strong impression – it was a sentence, a sentence with a strong obsession as if it were a dying wish: “We will eventually return to that pure and holy origin.”
The large black leather book was completely closed, and Maurice gasped violently as the words he had seen in his last moments coiled in his mind.
Vanna immediately noticed the difference and leaned over in two steps, “How are you?”
“The daily routine of a …… scholar, dealing with deadly knowledge and then surviving,” Morris evened out his breath and held out his hand to Vanna, “It’s fine, I’m still me- -help me up.”
As soon as he was up, he asked again, “How much time has passed?”
“A few seconds,” Vanna replied with a nod, “I just saw you turn the book over for a few moments before you snapped it shut, all the while your aura was in turmoil and unrecognizable shadows began to float in the fog around you.”
“A few seconds …… ” Morris pulled at the corner of his mouth, but his mind recalled the spectacle he had seen when he had been yanked back from the edge of losing control.
In the very next second, a low, majestic voice emerged in his mind, “Morris, what did you encounter on your side?”
Morris was stunned, hurriedly straightened his expression and responded in his mind, “I was just reading a book of blasphemy seized from the Annihilationists, and was accidentally contaminated–Captain, were you the one who finally pulled me back?”
“Well,” Duncan responded, “just now I suddenly sensed that your mind was under attack, so I checked the situation with the help of the ‘imprint’ left on you. You just said that you seized a Book of Blasphemy? What exactly is going on? Are you still with Vanna? What is your current location?”
“Vanna and I are together, we’re still operating in the Upper City, we’ve discovered that some Annihilationists have entered the real world under the cover of the Mist and are manipulating some of the ‘fakes’ to attack the city-state – we’ve just found and eliminated one of the manipulators,” Morris immediately responded, and then added a few more words. We found and destroyed one of the manipulators,” Maurice responded immediately, then organized his thoughts for a moment and continued, “The situation was very strange, the cultist’s body appeared to have fused with the primordial matter after his death, which appeared to be the result of some kind of extreme ‘modification’, and he was carrying a black anonymous book. Carrier of a black nameless book, the contents of the book ……”
Morris suddenly paused, his tone becoming extra cautious while carefully controlling his thoughts, “The contents of the book are disturbing, being the original text of those sacred epigraphic narratives that the ‘Raven’ had previously transcribed, and I only had time to read a small portion of it before it was contaminated. I’m sorry, that’s all I can report right now – I can’t recall the details of what’s in there right now.”
Duncan’s voice was silent for two seconds, then sounded again, “That’s fine, safety first, don’t continue to recall what you saw. Take the book with you and report back to me in person afterward.”
Maurice breathed a small sigh of relief, “Aye, Captain.”
At that moment, Vanna suddenly spoke up, “Captain, what’s the situation on your side?”
“Alice and I are in the second waterway – it’s rather quiet here.”
Deep underground near the center of the city, in one of the intersections of the Second Waterway, Duncan raised his head and looked towards the empty corridor in the distance.
There was a thin layer of fog that was floating over the corridor, clinging to the dark dome that seemed to have appeared out of thin air inside this space, and was becoming thicker and thicker as time went by – but compared to the surface of the city-state, which had already been completely covered by the fog, the slight amount of fog here wasn’t serious.
“I’m waiting for the fire to be in place.”
He said to Vanna in his mind through the connection of the Seal.
“Spark?” Vanna’s voice sounded a bit puzzled.
“The lair of those Annihilationists is not in the real world – the Mirror Frost is their home base,” Duncan said slowly, “The Sea Mist Fleet or the Frost Navy, including the City State Guards and the Guardians of the Church. The ‘invasions’ they’ve wiped out in the real world are all just slowing down the process of mirroring up, and the only way to really fix this one is to do it from the mirror side.
“Agatha’s already gone with the fire – she’ll find the heretics’ lair, and then I’ll help her set the place ablaze.”
The response from Vanna’s side was noticeably delayed for a few seconds, “So …… there anything we can do?”
“Just keep hunting in the fog, destroy all the fakes you see, find out all the controllers behind them and hunt as many as you can,” Duncan said, “It makes sense to slow down the invasion, you’re buying Agatha time and taking the pressure off of her to face it. ”
Vanna responded immediately, “Yes, I understand!” Immediately after a few more seconds, her voice came again, “Also …… there may be another fake ‘Gatekeeper’ in action in the city-state right now, and there doesn’t seem to be any reaction from the Church’s side, do you think that ……”
Her voice sounded a bit hesitant.
Duncan, on the other hand, had known about the fake for a long time, even more so than Vanna did.
After all, he had established contact with the real Agatha.
“There’s no need to worry about that ‘Agatha’,” he responded after a moment of contemplation, “and no need to deal with her – but if you encounter her, depending on the circumstances require, help is available.”
Vanna’s side visibly froze for a few seconds, followed by shock in her tone, “Offer help? Help with that ‘fake’?”
“Don’t forget that not all fakes are under the control of the Annihilationists, the most prominent ones among them have a will of their own,” Duncan’s tone remained calm, “The Gatekeepers don’t become puppets of the heretics so easily, but of course, the specifics of the situation will need to be judged by yourselves when the time comes. ”
“Aye, I understand, Captain.”
This time, there was a strange solemnity in Vanna’s response.
It was as if her sense of mission as an Inquisitor resonated subtly with the Gatekeeper at this moment.
The contact with the followers was over.
Duncan exhaled softly, then raised his hand, and a small flame flared at his fingertips.
He stared at the flame for a moment before speaking softly, “Agatha, do you think ‘she’ will really be what you think she is?”
A cold and hoarse voice rang out from the flames, “It will.”
“Why are you so sure?”
“Because I believe in myself.”
“But that’s just a copy of you,” Duncan said calmly, “and there will be small differences between you, differences that could cause her to make different decisions than you.”
“But you did not order your followers to destroy that ‘hidden danger’ because of it,” Agatha said, “and you trusted my judgment.”
Duncan was silent for a few seconds before he sighed softly.
“There was a human named Brown Scott who proved his humanity to me, and that humanity is still in effect with the ‘fake’ – so this time, I wouldn’t mind trusting it again. ”
“What if …… I mean what if, what if my judgment is wrong too? Your trust would be misplaced ……”
“That’s okay, it’s all minor.”
Little things? ……
In the cold, damp sewer corridor, Agatha lowered her head and glanced at the small fire still burning quietly in her hand.
The faint heat escaping from that fire seemed to have become the only temperature she could feel in this world – outside of the firelight, she felt that the entire world was as cold as the grave.
The “captain’s” voice came again: “Agatha, what’s the situation on your side?”
“I’m still moving, I’m almost there, I can feel it, it’s very close.”
“I mean your situation, your voice doesn’t sound the same as before.”
Agatha stopped in her tracks.
She lowered her head, and all her eyes could see was her bruised body and the wounds that had stopped bleeding.
“It’s all right,” she whispered, gravely coldness in her voice, “it’s all minor.”
