Chapter 402: Fog?
Chapter 402 Fog?
The center of the city-state, the highest place in Frost, the Silent Grand Sanctuary stood quietly at the top of the hill, the gloomy sky made this majestic and dark building seem to have more of a repression in reticence, and its forested spires stood in the mist, like thorns and blades, overlooking the entire city.
A tall figure that stood out in the crowd strolled across the square in front of the church, looking around as if he were an ordinary tourist.
Not long after, another old gentleman in a dark brown coat with an elegant and gentle demeanor walked out from the crowd and headed straight towards the tall figure.
Vanna saw Maurice coming through the crowd and moved to a relatively secluded spot without moving.
“There’s nothing out of the ordinary on this side of Church Square.” Vanna leaned against a street lamp, her eyes gazing at the church doors not far away, and said in a low voice.
“The same goes for the town hall side, at least on the surface, no one here shows signs of mental or cognitive contamination,” Morris rubbed his monocle, “but I have noticed one thing.”
“A situation?”
“There are people discussing the recent authorities’ exploratory operations into the sewers near the plaza, and if that’s correct, it would be the Second Waterway they’re talking about,” Maurice said, “In their talk, they mentioned the Gatekeeper, Agatha- -that gatekeeper was leading the way in person.”
“Agatha the Gatekeeper?” The expression on Vanna’s face changed slightly, “But the Captain said ……”
“The real Agatha, at the moment, should be trapped in a mirrored Frost City,” Morris whispered, “The one who is leading the group …… is more than likely a fake.”
Vanna inhaled softly, then immediately jerked her head up and looked in the direction of the Great Sanctuary of Silence.
The lofty and stately building stood against the backdrop of the gloomy sky, its forest of spires standing silently in the mist.
Her expression became grave, “The …… cathedral doesn’t have any unusual symptoms, so there are only two possibilities, either, the forgeries have concealed themselves from the eyes of the cathedral, or ……”
“Either the Frost Church is no longer trustworthy, or at least something has gone very wrong in the cathedral,” Morris nodded lightly, “Either way, the Frost Church has clearly lost control of the whole thing – We should get out of here, this matter must be told to Mr. Duncan immediately.”
Vanna nodded wordlessly and walked with Maurice towards the exit at the edge of the plaza, and before she left, she raised her head one last time to the clearing across from the Great Sanctuary of Silence.
That was where the Town Hall stood, where the Queen’s Palace, once known as the “Court of Winter”, stood – it was foggy on the hilltop, and in the slightly thickening mist, Vanna could see that the building stood just as silent as the Great Hall of Silence, its spires soaring and its towers lined with trees. spires soaring, its towers standing tall, one tower like thorns and blades in the fog, silently overlooking the city.
Vanna’s steps came to a sudden halt.
Morris turned his head at once, “Vanna? What do you see?”
Vanna stared dead at the hazy mist.
In the mist, the town hall was restored to its original state, a palace-like building with various curved vaults, the majestic and atmospheric grayish-white main building was surrounded by long halls and continuous undulating vaults that extended out on both sides like feathery wings.
There were neither gloomy black spires nor forests of tall towers.
“Vanna? What’s the matter with you?” Maurice’s voice sounded from the sidelines again.
“I just saw another cathedral – right where the town hall is,” Vanna suddenly whispered, her expression looking stricken, “It was only for a moment, but I’m sure I wasn’t mistaken! ”
“Another cathedral?” Maurice was taken aback, and he instinctively looked across the square, but as far as the eye could see, there was only the city hall, which looked no different.
But he didn’t doubt Vanna’s judgment for a moment.
“This is not a good sign,” the old scholar’s voice was low, and he raised his hand to press the bowler hat on top of his head, “It looks like you were the only one who saw that scene just now, and this is probably because your psychic vision as a cleric is far superior to that of normal people-that scene of vision appeared directly around the cathedral, which is evidence that the erosion is getting worse.”
Vanna, however, didn’t say anything, she just frowned tightly, her gaze cast to the city area at the foot of the mountain, and only after a long time did she slowly speak, “It’s fogging up, it’s everywhere.”
The fog had risen, initially in the center area of Frost City State, then the fog began to spread towards the entire city area, from only wisps of mist at the beginning, to the fog rapidly becoming dense, within just a few hours, the entire city had been shrouded in a haze. “There’s a huge fog rising outside!”
Shirley yelled with a look of surprise on her face as she lay on her stomach at the window of her second floor bedroom, stretching her neck to look out at the scene on the street.
Dog also plopped down next to the window, his ugly bony head squeezed side by side with Shirley, and after staring outside for half a day, he suddenly came out with a string of words, “The reason for foggy urban areas is usually the large temperature difference between day and night, and human activities lead to the rise of water vapor and the increase of dust in the air, and the watery air between the buildings meets with a sudden drop in temperature and then it will be formed… …”
Shirley listened in a daze, “What are you talking about, Dog?”
“Dog’s talking about the second chapter of ‘The Logic Behind Nature’, he’s been reading the book for the past two days,” Nina, who was working on her homework at the desk next to her, twisted her head to look at it and said casually, “It’s about time that you tried reading simple reading material on your own once in a while, it’s useful for becoming proficient with words –It’s really not possible for you to start with a picture book.”
Shirley thought for a moment, not quite sure, “Are you mocking me for recognizing so few words that I’ve learned to read only picture books?”
Nina’s attention had turned back to her own homework, “No, because you really can only read picture books, and describing the facts doesn’t count as taunting ……”
Shirley glared at once, as if she wanted to get angry, but then she was immediately distracted by the even thicker fog outside the window and waved her hand back and forth, “Hey I’m not going to talk to you about this – come and look! It’s really foggy out there! I haven’t even seen this much fog in Pouland ……”
“There’s a small temperature difference between day and night in Prand, and it’s windy in the mornings and evenings, so it’s not supposed to be foggy,” Nina didn’t even look up, “I’m not looking, I haven’t even finished my homework yet, and this set of papers Mr. Maurice has left is really hard, and the multiple-choice questions are so confusing I always feel like choosing the wrong one… …”
“Hey, when you can’t figure out an option you just pick C,” Sherry blurted out, followed by a twinkle in her eye, as if floating on a new idea, “Nina, do you want to go out? It’s just around the corner, not too far – there’s a confectionery store across the street, there’s bound to be few customers in this weather, you might be able to get a really cheap cake ……”
“I’m not going,” said Nina casually; “if you are, go yourself, and I won’t tattle when Uncle Duncan comes back ……”
Her words had barely gotten out of her mouth when a strange, rustling sound suddenly sounded in the room, interrupting the conversation between the two girls.
“Did you …… just hear something?” Sherry quickly jumped back from beside the windowsill, looking around with a wary expression.
Nina similarly tensed up, and just as she subconsciously tried to survey her surroundings, the remaining light from the corner of her eye suddenly saw a touch of abnormality appear on the surface of the test papers and books spread out in front of her.
Words were moving, symbols were rotating, and the black and white ink marks were trembling as if they had come to life, and at the edges of those trembling pen marks, black shadows were spreading rapidly just like haloed ink and quickly filling the entire surface of the paper.
Almost instantly, all the books and volumes that Nina had just read began to tremble violently, and heavy murmurs and whispers mixed with rustling sounds echoed throughout the room!
“Ah! The book you’re reading is possessed!” Shirley instantly exclaimed in shock, while subconsciously raising the chains linking her to Dog, and the moment her exclamation fell, the evil thing that had come after the smell of knowledge and uplifted towards the real world entered the room as well!
Black smoke swirled wildly, entities coalesced and emerged from the smoke, skeletal fragments clattered to the floor and blinked into ugly and lurid demons – three Phantom Hounds landed on the floor, letting out fearful low growls, their chaotic scarlet eyes filled with madness and confusion!
Then they caught sight of Dog, who was sprawled out in the open space next to the window and seemed to be a little frozen.
The Hound and the Hound looked at each other – Shirley even thought she saw a moment of bewilderment in the gesture of the chaotic and unintelligent “Primordial Demons”.
But that didn’t affect her reaction in the least.
The black chains clattered instantly, and Shirley raised her arm high, swinging Dog around like a meteor hammer with tremendous force, and the next moment it whistled into the demon closest to the window!
“I’ll fucking whip you!”
In a loud bang, the two dog heads had a shocking collision, and the demon that had just run out of the deep, deep sea was obviously no match for Dog, who had already been practicing in real combat with Shirley for many years – both in terms of the hardness of his brain and in terms of his reflexes.
The first Phantom Demon was smashed to pieces in a single glance.
The second Profound Demon, on the other hand, only had time to open its mouth before it was able to let out a roar before it suddenly felt a swift onslaught of heat.
A flame came from the side, and Nina raised her leg to deliver a 6000°C flying kick.
