Chapter 191: Like Yesterday’s Gone
Chapter 191: Fading Away Like Yesterday
The World’s Creation hung high in the night sky, a cold wind blew across the infinite sea, the fine waves gently floated around, and the boat rocked like a dream that would wake up before dawn.
But Alice didn’t really know what “dreaming” was – she had been asleep for a long, long time, but had never really dreamed like a human being, but she guessed that dreaming should be a state similar to this.
Floating in a big, big place, her thoughts drifted along with her.
She looked up and saw that there was nothing but ocean water in the distance, and the distant lights of the Lost Country were like little tiny candles floating on the surface of the sea, which even gave her a feeling as if this whole world had disappeared, and all that was left was herself, the little boat under her body, and the infinite, boundless sea.
Oh, and the three quintuple-bound Final Preachers across the way.
Miss Mannequin withdrew her gaze into the distance and curiously surveyed the cultists bound before her.
These were humans, the bad kind – Alice didn’t know any humans, but she knew that there were good people and bad people, good people who did very good things and whom Captain Duncan appreciated and sometimes helped, and bad people who did very bad things and whom Captain Duncan despised and sometimes reported, and these three in front of her …… are among the captain s least favorite kind.
They believed in subspace, followed vicious beliefs, and would go out and kill anyone for their own fictionalized righteousness, even to the point of attacking a poor little girl who was dependent on a dog, and wouldn’t hesitate to shoot them randomly in the street if the city-state’s defenders found them, or hang them from the masts if the sailors at sea found them – -Even the vicious pirates, if they found them, would stuff these madmen into wooden crates and throw them into the sea, praying in this way for the shelter of the storm goddess.
But now they were tied up, and peaceful, and there was no sign of any crazy out-of-control impulses – Alice remembered the frightening look of these people when they first arrived on the ship, when the men were as excited as if they had taken the wrong drugs.
Now as time went on, these Final Preachers were getting more and more honest.
“Are you guys scared?” After holding her tongue for a long time, Alice finally couldn’t help but speak up, it was really hard for her to be here, even though she knew that this was a “safety test” that had to be carried out in order for her to be able to move around in the human city-states, this kind of feeling of drifting in the infinite sea still made her feel unsettled.
One of the final preachers responded to the voice of the mannequins, his withered skull-like head slowly raised and stared into Alice’s eyes, “Stupid filth, clumsy shell …… Your soul is so pale and empty that subspace won’t even take it in… …”
Alice froze for a moment, and only reacted after a few seconds, “Hey, why are you cursing!”
On the opposite side, the Final Preachers only let out a series of hoarse and unpleasant laughter, and they didn’t seem to have the slightest bit of fear for the “Anomaly 099” that terrified the world.
Or as they themselves claimed, they had long since transcended the concept of life and death, and no longer cared about the coming of death in the real world.
Alice could only sulk by herself, but after a while, she shook her head again, “I’m not angry anymore.”
The other Final Preacher looked up at her without saying anything.
Alice spoke to herself, “I shouldn’t be angry, you can complain a few times, after all, you’re the ones tied up right now and not me, and you’re the ones who will have to do this kind of head-dropping test and not me, the captain said that you can’t get too carried away when you’re going downwind because the waves capsize the boat and people jump too much and don’t get killed… . and since you’ve all been reduced to this, I’ll be generous and allow you to mouth off a few times.”
The Endbringers sat in silence in the cabin, listening to the mannequin’s ramblings as if they were completely blocking out the latter’s voice, but after a while, Alice noticed that the men were making some “small movements” – they were motionlessly hitting each other.
They were motionlessly sizing up each other’s heads, moving their necks from time to time, and occasionally glancing cautiously this way with a puzzled look in their eyes.
Alice thought carefully, and thought that these people might be curious about why their heads were still on their necks.
These cultists obviously knew about Anomaly 099’s intelligence, and they might not really be afraid of death, but as usual, they had a sense of curiosity – after spending so much time in close proximity with Anomaly 099, they found it hard to understand their own survival.
“I’m actually a bit scared,” Alice said suddenly, “I’m just afraid that your heads will suddenly fall off – the captain said that I have the ability to decapitate people, and I was taken aback when I first heard about it. Humans aren’t like me, and humans can’t be put back together if their heads fall off ……”
A sound of flapping wings suddenly came from above, and Alice looked curiously in the direction the sound had come from to see the pigeon, Aey, suddenly flying off into the distance, and then, not long afterward, it flew back over from the direction of the Lost Country ship, with green flames rising from its body.
Aey spun around twice on the sea surface near the small boat, and the ghostly green flames rose up into the air, and in the grand swirl of flames, a gorgeous wooden box appeared out of thin air, and then fell onto the sea surface next to it with a fluttering sound.
“My box!” Alice’s eyes widened in amazement, and immediately after, the words “sweep away” appeared in her mind, and her head almost fell off her neck – but then she noticed that there seemed to be a note attached to the crate, and hurriedly paddled twice with her She paddled twice, leaned over and took the note down, and saw a line written on it:
“The guillotine ability may also be related to your wooden crate, send it along for testing. Also: you must be imagining again that I’m going to kick you out of the boat-don’t think about it, and hurry back when you’ve finished the test.” Alice held up the note and read it upside down several times, realizing she didn’t understand it.
She couldn’t read ……
But soon she saw something else on the back of the note, a scribbled sketch of her rowing back to the Lost Country with a smiling expression at the end.
Miss Doll then realized – whatever was written on the front of the note, the captain had no intention of kicking her out.
She put her heart down, carefully put the note away, and then casually picked up the wooden box from the sea, and threw the heavy box onto the boat with a bang, before looking up at the cultists across the street: “Are you hungry?”
The preachers didn’t respond, and she didn’t care, just mumbling to herself, “Although the captain said you were men who deserved to die, he also said that if you could actually complete the test without dying, he wouldn’t kill you – he was going to get you back to the city-state to use for …… what’s it called ……”
Miss Mannequin got a little stuck and tried to remember before she remembered what the Captain had told herself earlier, “Oh, to use to show the concern of dedicated citizens for the safety of the City State …… He said you guys were worth at least seven bicycles. What are bicycles?”
“Subspace will grant us satiety and warmth …… Subspace will grant us peace …… Subspace will bless all who perish, after all the end has come as it should… … “One of the End Preachers mumbled vaguely, as if responding to Alice’s ramblings, or as if he was merely offering some sort of blasphemous prayer, “As we walk in the End, and forsake this accursed flesh and blood, our minds will pass over that wall, and our eyes will be opened once more in the new world ……”
“Huh?” Alice listened in confusion, “What are you chanting?”
The Final Preachers, however, had stopped responding to her and gave no further response after this.
For the rest of the day, they just kept their heads down and mumbled, mumbling about things related to subspace, mumbling about the end of a certain time, a certain doom that was destined to come and deserved to come, and in the windy sea, apart from the movement of the fine waves lapping against the boards of the ship, the only thing left was the ceaseless muttering of these madmen.
It was the kind of atmosphere that could give a normal person the creeps, and the content of their prayers could cause the weak-minded to be cursed, infested and haunted by the shadows from the depths of the world, but Alice only felt the noise.
She had gotten a little note from the captain, and therefore was no longer afraid of the drift, but was now filled with boredom.
But the boredom was finally over.
A ray of morning light suddenly appeared on the surface of the distant sea, and in the morning light, the World Creation in the sky quickly faded and became fainter, while the sun that was locked by the double runes little by little floated out of the sea and leapt into the sky.
Dawn.
Alice did not behead anyone.
Miss Doll looked on happily at the sight of the sunrise as she stood up from beside the crate and turned her head to the cultists, “Hey! It’s dawn! You guys are still alive! We can go back!”
But the three Endbringers did not respond to her, they just remained hunched over in the cabin, heads bowed, muttering softly, calling for subspace’s “attention” one last time in the brief darkness before the sunlight poured into the cabin.
It was only after Alice reminded them again that one of them finally raised his head, and this cultist glanced at the sunlight that was gradually spreading over, a bit dazed, but gradually, a strange smile appeared on his face.
“Oh, another day of ours is over ……,” the maniacal man sighed softly, then slowly turned his head and looked into Alice’s eyes, which were as perfect as carved jewels, with a smile that was an eerie mixture of insanity and calmness, “Dolls , we’ll meet again someday.”
“Huh?” Alice froze, “What do you mean by that? You can still run away from thin air ……”
The sunlight spread over.
The silhouettes of the three Final Preachers disappeared soundlessly into the morning glory, like fading phantoms of yesterday.
“Can’t you run away ……” Alice finished this half sentence under inertia and stared, “And really run away, huh?”
