Chapter 19: Underground Assembly Grounds
Chapter 19 Underground Assembly Grounds
The hooded figures in their hooded robes rightfully noticed Duncan, who stood in the middle of the road without flinching.
At this moment, Duncan still looks the same as when he just left the cave, his thin and shriveled body is covered with tattered clothes, and the temporary rags on his upper body block the big hole on his chest, he just stands in the middle of the road with a big grin on his face, but he looks as if he is scared by the sudden appearance of the “Hooded Men”! –The hooded figures were clearly surprised, and they stared blankly for a moment before the leader of the group suddenly shouted, “One of the sacrifices has escaped!”
Immediately afterward Duncan saw them running this way, and another shouted as he ran, “Quick! Stop him! Don’t let him get away!”
Duncan shrugged and just continued to look expressionlessly at these figures running towards him that didn’t look like good people no matter how he looked at them, after weighing the current situation he pressed on, but a few of the men on the other side were still rushing towards him while yelling, “Don’t let him get away!” “An offering has escaped!”
Duncan stood in the middle of the road without dodging, but instead made the atmosphere awkward, those who ran and shouted this way obviously felt something wrong halfway through the run, their shouts involuntarily stopped, but had to continue to run this way, Duncan could almost smell the smell of embarrassment mixed with annoyance from under their dark hoods – – then these embarrassed and annoyed -and then these embarrassed and annoyed men surrounded him front and back.
Only then did Duncan look around at the silhouettes around him, and after a moment’s hesitation said, “Shouldn’t I have just run away? After all, the atmosphere is all the way here ……”
The several figures in hooded robes, however, seemed as if they did not hear Duncan’s sneer, they just gave the latter a wary and cautious glance, and then immediately looked in the direction behind Duncan, and two of them darted their heads down to talk for a few words, and Duncan vaguely heard what they were talking about:
“Why did one run out?”
“Could it be that the Church’s gang of hyenas found this hiding place …… but it’s not like he was let out ……”
“Anyway, take it back first, this sacrifice that ran out isn’t quite right …… it needs to be dealt with quickly.”
“Let the messenger make the decision.”
Duncan is completely confused about what the bottom of this group of people, not to mention the other party mentioned the “messenger” means, but associated with the situation seen along the way and the other party mentioned the word “sacrifice”, he has already vaguely guessed some of the truth here. The truth.
He didn’t know how he should react in order to be considered a “normal sacrifice”, and he had no intention of cooperating with these people’s “performance”, so he had very little to worry about in a place other than the Lost Country ship and using a temporary body. After observing the situation around him for a while, he simply asked, “Where are you taking me?”
The men in hooded robes were obviously surprised to hear the “sacrifice” in front of them speak calmly, even though their hoods were still covered with a black veil that completely hid their faces, but even so Duncan could guess their surprise at the moment, and one of the black-robed men gave the “sacrifice” in front of him a vicious look through the mask, and his voice was very loud and clear as he asked, “Where are you taking me? One of the black-robed men gave the “sacrifice” in front of him a vicious look through the mask, and his voice was low: “You are in no position to ask questions – take them away!”
Several black-robed men immediately stepped forward, but before they could do so Duncan took the initiative to take a step forward, “No need for you to do it, I’ll just go with you.”
Several black-robed men looked at each other, probably because they felt that the spirit of this “sacrifice” in front of them was a bit abnormal, but the leader of the black-robed man waved his hand: “This is the best, you can’t run away anyway……. Come with us, you might still be able to meet glory with dignity.”
Several of the black-robed men gathered around Duncan, blocking off all of his “escape” routes and leading him deeper into the sewers.
The stench of the sewers was disgusting, but the black-robed men walked blithely along the filthy, moldy path as if they hadn’t noticed, and Duncan was expressionless and silent as he followed the black-robed men forward while listening to their conversations – there wasn’t much conversation between the black-robed men, but during the occasional The black-robed men didn’t talk much to each other, but in the occasional sentence, Duncan heard words like “Prand”, “Consul”, “Church” and other useful words.
“This is the city-state of Prand?” Duncan spoke suddenly, as frankly as if he were making small talk with an acquaintance.
“Nonsense ……” one of the black-robed men subconsciously shot back, but reacted immediately afterward, giving Duncan a hell of a look, “You’re pretty cool, kid, do you know what’s going to happen next? ”
“Could probably guess,” Duncan nodded, a smile even on his face, followed by a tentative question, “The real Sun God …… right?”
Several of the black-robed men visibly paused in their tracks for a split second, they seemed to have misinterpreted Duncan from this unusual response, one of them whispering to his companion, “Wait, is this a follower of the Lord as well?” “Impossible, he’s obviously an escaped sacrifice ……” whispered another black-robed man, followed by a glance at Duncan, “You’re quite resourceful, but don’t think that you’ll be exempt from the sacrifice The …… Lord has decreed your fate, and you had better accept it gladly.”
Duncan didn’t say anything, he knew that his overly calm reaction had given the suspected cultists the wrong idea, most of them thought he was trying to survive by playing it cool and masquerading as a “believer”, but only Duncan knew the truth.
This temporarily occupied body is even difficult to move normally, the muscles of his face is as stiff as a necrotic end …… then of course, only the calm expressionlessness remains!
But he also did not care what this group of cultists in the heart, he only wanted to collect as much information as possible in this “one-time exploration action”, so immediately after that, he casually asked: “Do you think the current ‘sun’ in the sky is a fake sun? You think the current ‘sun’ in the sky is a false sun? Do you think it will fall sooner or later?”
“Of course the false sun will eventually fall!” This was clearly a topic that would stimulate these cultists, and Duncan heard, as expected, a positive and fervent response from one of them, “Even those lackeys of the Papacy would have to admit in the General History that the sun in the heavens is a twisted and grotesque thing that came into existence only after the Great Annihilation! It was the Sun God who truly brought life and order to all things in the world, but my Lord was usurped by that vile counterfeit …… Sooner or later that vile counterfeit will have its time to crumble from the sky!”
Immediately afterward, Duncan heard the cultists around him respond, “Sooner or later the False Sun will fall!” “The true Sun God will soon be revived!” “The excess waters of the world will be expelled back into the deep void by the greatness of the Sun God, and the earth will return to a fertile and stable epoch!”
Listening to the words of these cultists, Duncan’s mind was spinning rapidly. He knew that such fanatical cultists could not be reasoned with, and what they believed in was mostly twisted and distorted information, but some of the information they revealed was still worthy of consideration –
The “sun” hanging in the sky is a fake ……
The real sun has been usurped ……
They believed that the real sun was a fallen god, and that he would “rise from blood and fire” ……
They also spoke of a surplus of sea water in the world, of a fertile and stable epoch …… What do these words mean?
Duncan’s mind was racing, while the cultists calmed down shortly afterward, remembering their business, remembering they were escorting an escaped “sacrifice”, so the ones closest to Duncan resumed their silence, while the two at the end of the group muttered something in hushed tones:
“Do you ever think this ‘sacrifice’ is a bit evil?”
“He doesn’t seem right …… I’m a little unsteady.”
“Could it be that this sacrifice spent too long in the lightless underground when he escaped before, and his spirit was given …… by something.”
“That’s just right, the Lord’s might will purify him.”
Duncan listened to the conversation coming from behind him, he especially noticed the words “lightless underground”, but just as he was trying to gather more information from this conversation, the black-robed man in the lead stopped in his tracks.
“We’ve arrived.”
The black-robed cultist said in a low, icy voice.
Duncan felt some regret in his heart for a moment, but immediately afterward, his attention was drawn to the sight in front of him.
Ahead was the end of a section of road, where several sewers intersected, and within this space that was as wide as a small underground hall, there was clearly an assembly site for black-robed cultists!
