Chapter 135 – Feast in the Fire

Chapter 135 – Feast in Fire
Sherry’s fighting style was the same as always.

Simple, brutal, effective, with a sense of spontaneity of a Tengu – all beings are equal in the whistling sound of chains.

The strange figure that jumped over through the shadows didn’t seem to realize that the “Summoner girl” with the demon in front of her was essentially a melee combatant – according to the normal way of thinking, the first time you see a spellcasting profession, you should close the distance and start a melee combat. But after closing the distance suddenly realized that the opposite side of the caster pulled out a meteor hammer that is another story, so Duncan had seen a scene once again:
Chains creaked, Shirley slammed her dog down, and the dark figure was hit solidly on the spot with a loud thud, almost whistling as it flew backwards!
“Boom” sound, the figure was directly smashed into a nearby building, the remaining fire has not disappeared, bringing up a rising smoke and sparks, followed by no movement.

“That’s it?” The smoothness of the battle was unexpected, even Shirley herself didn’t react, she carried Dog in one hand while looking into the distance, her face full of wariness, “How do I feel in my hands ……”

Before her words fell, Dog’s alarmed voice suddenly rang out from the other end of the chain, “Be careful!”

Shirley immediately tensed her muscles, the next second, she finally noticed that the shadows at her feet had become a little thicker than just now, and immediately afterward, a blurred “whip” whose outline could not be seen bounced out of the shadows!

The long black whip was wrapped in a vicious cracking sound, and came straight at Sherry’s neck, the latter dodged back in the nick of time, but was still struck by it on her arm, and blood splattered all over the place at once.

Shirley “tsk” a sound, but to this pain does not care, she quickly back away, and only then she saw that part of his shadow was left in place, and that the umbrella of the strange tall and thin man from the shadow quickly emerged, she also saw clearly hit his “long whip! She also saw what the “whip” that hit her was – a “limb” that extended from the hem of the other party’s clothes!
The shadow seemed to be wrapped in a thick smoke, inside there were writhing and deformed flesh and blood in the rolling, seems to be in a constant state of decay and rebirth, looks disgusting and creepy.

Shirley only took one look at that wrist-like limb, and felt a wave of nausea from the bottom of her heart, and in the next instant, she heard the strange man with the umbrella let out a low, muffled mumble, and the strange “limb” extending from the hem of his clothes once again turned into a long whip and lunged at her face.

Subconsciously, she raised the chain in her hand and was about to swing Dog up again, but at that moment, a greenish flame suddenly appeared at the edge of her field of vision.

At the instant this green light flame emerged, she noticed that the tall and thin silhouette on the opposite side of the room’s movements suddenly stalled, as if some kind of fear originating from instinct suddenly curbed his movements, and the next instant, that silhouette quickly retreated backward, and the thick black smoke churned under the big black umbrella, and within it, there were constantly low and blurred hissing sounds coming from the bottom of the black umbrella, and the streams of green flames almost rubbed against the edge of this smoke and spread out, and in the shimmering light of the Spirit Body Flame, that big umbrella was suddenly filled with the light of the Spirit Body Flame, and the green flame stream was almost rubbing against the side of this smoke. In the dim light of the Spirit Body Flame, the black smoke underneath the large umbrella was reflected with a layer of miserable color.

Shirley subconsciously swept a glance at the direction where Duncan was, she saw that the other party was just standing still, but the phantom-like flames continued to spread out in all directions with it as the center, and wherever the flames reached, no matter whether it was the surrounding buildings or the sparks floating in the air, or even the silhouettes of the buildings in the distance, they all began to be gradually tinted with a layer of ghostly green!
As if it was some kind of plague spreading out, wherever that strange flame went, everything was gradually being infected!

Is this the power of this great man? Or is it just the tip of the iceberg of his power?

Shirley’s heart was flooded with suspicion, but she didn’t have time to think about it in detail, the attacker who was retreating quickly had obviously been suppressed and shocked by the spirit fire in the surroundings, and in line with the guideline that you can’t stay in a fight, Shirley took advantage of her opponent’s weakness to once again swing the chain in her hand, and slammed the dog down on the assailant with all of her strength!
More than just the feel of the hand more strange feedback along the perception of the dog, Shirley felt as if she hit a puddle of rotting meat, she saw that the figure with a black umbrella was directly smashed by their own broken open, accompanied by a sickening tearing sound, the thing’s black “coat” in pieces, several clusters of indeterminate, was wrapped in smoke A few pieces of unshapely, smoke-covered flesh fell out of the clothes, and then began to run all over the place as if each had its own will, and continued to split into smaller pieces while running around.

Countless overlapping shrill cries came from inside each piece!
It was an absolutely horrifying and grotesque scene – charred and twisted alien limbs were in pieces, writhing, splitting and fleeing all over the streets where the embers had not yet disappeared, and the sharp chirps that seemed to be able to pierce through the sanity of mortals were coming from all over the place, and as the pieces continued to split up, they became more and more grotesque and strange, and in the end it was as if the whole world was filled with “them”. In the end, it was as if the whole world was filled with “their” piercing screams!
Shirley, for the first time since the beginning of the fight, felt creeped out, she gripped the chain in her hand, but did not know how to use her customary “tactics” to deal with these screaming pieces that were still splitting and writhing, but soon, she noticed that these fragmented pieces had no intention of continuing to fight! But soon she noticed that the fragmented pieces had no intention of continuing the fight — they were actually fleeing in unison.

Fleeing the green flames that were still spreading.

Now they had split into hundreds of pieces, wriggling and running like black swarms of insects on the street, fleeing frantically towards the far side of the street between the green flames, some of which were constantly being “captured” by the nearby Spirit Flame – just an accidental bump, and some of which had been caught by the nearby Spirit Flame. Just a careless touch, or just a little spark rubbed on it, and immediately the flames spread over it, burning through it instantly!
But this burning was not the end, but only the beginning – the pieces burned by the Spirit Body Flame did not die, but suddenly turned around and began to hunt, attack, and eat those pieces of flesh and blood that had not yet escaped from the fire and had not been touched by the green flames.

Everything happened very quickly, almost within half a minute, half of the scattered pieces of flesh and blood running away have been burned by the fire of the spirit body infiltrated, those who were eroded by the green flame of the flesh and blood splitting body around to feed on the previous “compatriots”, while a vague green wall of fire has been closed at the end of the street, completely blocked off A wall of vague green fire has closed at the end of the street, completely blocking all escape routes.

The fire became a hunting ground, and the thousands of fragments from the same black-clad assailant became a swarm of insects in a deadly battle, and the continuous screaming finally stopped, but was replaced by an even more horrifying sound– the sound of a “human being” that spread throughout the street.

It was the sound of chewing that spread throughout the entire street.

The assailant tried to disintegrate and escape, and now he’s turned into a feast of his own. Shirley felt goosebumps rise all over her body, and she could feel Dog shivering too, as she shivered slightly in the hot, ash-strewn street, but the next moment, she felt a warm hand pressing on her shoulder.

“Don’t be afraid,” Duncan whispered soothingly to Sherry, “bugs are most afraid of fire.”

Shirley’s shoulders shook and an extremely strange feeling bubbled up in her mind, the reassurance of being favored and soothed by a powerful presence and the creepiness of being watched closely by something unnameable all mixed together at the same time, she boldly glanced up at Duncan next to her only to see that the other woman was frowning tightly.

“One thing’s for sure, it’s kind of gross,” Duncan lamented to Shirley from the bottom of his heart as he looked at the swarm of bugs feeding on each other, “I didn’t think it would turn out like this.”

Who would have believed it!
“Indeed …… indeed ……” Shirley said abashedly, believing whatever the big man said, “It’s kind of gross! ……”

“Good thing it’s almost over.” Duncan said with a slightly relaxed tone.

It’s almost over.

The sounds of flames spreading and predation in the streets were gradually ceasing, both the predator and the prey were finally running out of life, turning into piles of ash that drifted away in the wind, the monstrous assailants simply turning into nothingness, and the auror’s fires that had been spreading everywhere began to taper off and subside.

Shirley until this time finally swallowed her saliva, she looked at those tiny drifting piles of ashes, boldly asked, “All …… over?”

Duncan, however, shook his head, “…… Not necessarily.”

Shirley looked at Duncan in surprise and confusion, but saw that the other woman was walking forward while the last of the broken pieces from the assailant burrowed out of a nearby ash pile, the indeterminate abomination of flesh and blood wiggled and squirmed as it seemed to be trying to escape, but stopped after just a few squirming steps.

Duncan stopped in front of the shattered piece and bent down, a little green flame leaping between his fingers.

“I have heard many frightening and bizarre stories, and they have taught me one lesson,” Duncan said slowly, explaining to Shirley, “If you suddenly realize that your enemy has the ability to splinter, it is best to default to the assumption that the first enemy you encounter is simply a splinter — to always assume that there is an essence hiding behind the splinter, to be used to make up sequels for crappy authors.”

He tapped his fingertips, lighting the green flame on the surface of the last fragment.

“I don’t like sequels much, and I don’t like it even more when there’s an inexplicable ontology hiding behind the curtain that has to wait until the protagonists are paralyzed before popping out to knife people.”

The green flames burned fiercely, and the tainted piece of debris suddenly shuddered, followed by a number of structures sprouting from its underside as if they were insect steps and feet, supporting it as it staggered to its feet.

Duncan stood slowly, gazing silently at the last remaining fragment of the assailant.

“Go home and take my gift with you.”
