Chapter 10: Elegance is not so elegant anymore ……
The “coffin” is back.
On the aft deck of the Lost Country ship, Duncan looked at the gorgeous wooden box lying quietly in front of him, and the water droplets on the edge of the box fell on his feet, confirming that his previous memory of throwing the box into the sea was not false, and confirming that this thing was really floating in the sea not long ago.
Such a bizarre situation was enough to send chills down a man’s spine, and yet for some reason, Duncan was calmer than he could have ever imagined himself to be at the moment.
Maybe it was because he was on this already bizarre ghost ship, maybe it was because he had experienced a thrilling “spirit world drift” and ship collision not long ago, and maybe it was because he had dealt with a certain equally bizarre goat-head for several days, Duncan seemed to have become somewhat immune to the strange and bizarre paranormal phenomena of this world.
In fact, as early as the last time he threw this “cursed mannequin” overboard, he had a sneaking suspicion that things wouldn’t end so simply.
He lowered his head, and unsurprisingly found that the iron nails and the chain around the coffin had disappeared, and then he bent down and pried open the lid of the coffin with the pirate sword in his hand again.
The gorgeous Gothic doll was still lying quietly in the center of the red velvet lining, hands folded, quiet and elegant.
But this time Duncan clearly noticed that the corner of the other side of the skirt seems to have been wet by the sea water traces – a slight smell of the sea from the inside of the lid of the coffin.
Up to now, this weird doll didn’t seem to have any other out of the ordinary or dangerous behavior other than coming back again and again, but the mere fact that it was “coming back” was already a standard attribute of “cursed objects”.
Duncan expressionlessly looked at the doll for a while, suddenly broke the silence with a smile: “I suddenly want to satisfy my own curiosity …….”
As his words fell, he turned around and walked towards the cabin entrance not far away, leaving the doll on the deck with a sense of relief.
–Although personally speaking, he was very wary of the doll, and did not want to leave the other party beside him, but based on his understanding of the Lost Country ship as well as that goat head, he knew that leaving the doll on the deck for the time being would not be too much of a problem, and that even if she rose up to injure someone, the many “living creatures” on the ship would be enough to deal with her. Even if she were to attack someone, the many “living things” on this ship would be more than enough to handle it.
And he had to do some “preparatory work” in the meantime.
Duncan crossed the aft deck, opened the wooden door leading to the lower deck, stepped on the wooden stairs, I do not know how many years of age, and came to the lower deck of the cabin in a familiar way, here in the cabin belongs to the “upper cabin”, is the placement of the gun place – old style of front-mounted guns silent The old style of front-loading guns lying quietly on both sides of the cabin, moldy black wooden boards covered in the side of the firing ports, black powder kegs and solid iron ball shells piled up between the gun positions, it looks as if it has been piled up for a century long.
Duncan’s eyes swept over these things, which at a glance were quite dated, and a sudden thought occurred to him–
On this ship, he did not see a second “human” shadow other than himself, so who is in control of these cannons ……?
Could it be that just like the Lost Country ship itself, these cannons can also be loaded and fired by themselves?
What about the fresh water tanks on the ship? Are they also replenishing themselves? What about the damage? Also self-repairing? Or …… does this ship really have the concept of “damage”?
The questions in his mind came up one by one, but could not think of how to explain.
Duncan knows very well, his understanding of the ship is still too little too little, although he has been here in the past few days to a certain degree of exploration, but only a general understanding of its upper structure, those deeper areas are far more bizarre than the upper level, but also more scary, coupled with the fact that before he has been hoping to be able to leave their own “bachelor pad In addition, he had been hoping to leave his “bachelor pad” and return to the normal world on Earth, and did not focus on the Lost Country, which led to his actions on “this side” did not have much motivation.
But now, he suddenly had a greater curiosity about the ship, or …… had a greater “sense of control”.
This is his ship, he should be to understand this “lost country ship”.
This may also be the change after holding the rudder wheel.
Duncan shook his head, put the subsequent exploration plan in his mind for the time being, and then went to the place where the cannonballs were piled up ……
A few moments later, clutching several cast-iron cannonballs, Duncan returned to the aft deck, and just as he thought – the cursed figures in their coffins were still lying honestly in their wooden crates.
“Did she move at all just now?”
“Not at all,” came at once the voice of the goat’s head, which seemed to have held its tongue too long, and crackled as soon as it spoke; “the lady is as quiet as she looks, and you ought to trust my judgment that she is mild and harmless as far as you are concerned; and as she has come back to the ship thrice, it may perhaps mean that she and there is some connection between her casket and the Lost Country, a great horticulturalist once ……”
“Shut up.”
“Oh.”
Duncan gazed expressionlessly at the mannequin in the casket.
It wasn’t clear if she really couldn’t move, or if she was still pretending to be asleep after all – Duncan didn’t care about that anyway.
He was going to have to satisfy his curiosity.
The solid iron ball-like cast iron cannonballs were extraordinarily heavy, and when it came to executing the ship’s traitors, strapping on a single one of these would be enough to bury even the most seasoned sailor.
Duncan placed four into the coffin – and then returned to the cabin to carry another four.
Eight shells filled almost all the remaining space in the wooden box, and the gorgeous, elegant Gothic figure, now surrounded by a ring of cannonballs, looked …… Wunderbar very full.
Elegant is not very elegant anymore, evil is really evil. Duncan sealed the lid of the coffin again, and then rather laboriously pushed that wooden box to the edge of the deck, sparing himself the strength of his own body nowadays, to complete this operation is not too easy.
Finally, he flew up and kicked the coffin into the sea.
A heavy sound of falling water came, and the ornate wooden box went straight into the water and sank straight down.
Duncan still stood quietly at the edge of the deck, gazing at the place where the wooden box had fallen into the water, and did not move for a long time.
Goathead’s voice came into his head, “Captain, are you backtracking? If you’re sorry about discarding this trophy, the Lost Country can try to fish that crate up again with the anchor; it’s not the proper use of a ship’s anchor, but the anchor says it’s okay to try ……”
“Shut up.”
“But I see you’ve been standing at the edge of the deck for a long time ……”
“Shut up.”
“Oh.”
Duncan exhaled softly.
He couldn’t admit he had a sore toe in front of the dogged goathead.
So he ached at the edge of the deck for several minutes, struggling the entire time to maintain the seriousness expected of a dignified captain, and at the end of the day he wondered a little if he didn’t look like a rock looking out for his wife before finally easing off, and then nonchalantly returning to the upper cabin below decks.
After waiting quietly for a few more minutes, Duncan suddenly walked towards the aft section of the upper cabin and opened the observation window in the center of the two aft cannons, gazing intently at the movements on the surface.
The goathead hadn’t been quiet for long, and couldn’t help himself at this point: “Captain, what are you ……”
Duncan stared intently at the surface of the sea while his head was not lifted, “I’m curious as to how that ‘cursed mannequin’ actually came back.”
“Uh …… because she’s a cursed doll?”
“…… I appreciate your unasking attitude, but I think that even if she was a cursed doll, there must have been some sort of process for her to return to the ship. She wants to pretend that she is ‘dead’ but returns to the ship again and again, I think there must be a reason in between, and the other party must exist the ability to communicate …… But she refuses to communicate right now, so I’ll just have to figure out a way to catch her pattern of action and forcefully talk to that guy to establish communication.”
Listening to Duncan’s explanation, the goat head was silent for two seconds, and suddenly asked tentatively, “Captain, you seem …… to have suddenly become more excited? Ah, that’s a good sign! You haven’t been in the best of moods since you last woke up from your nap, appearing to have lost interest in a lot of things, your loyal first mate and second mate and ……”
“Shut up.”
“Oh.”
After Goathead quieted down, Duncan was still gazing at the movement of the sea, which in his line of sight was nothing but calm in the direction of the stern.
The “coffin” seemed to have sunk into the deep sea, and no longer appeared.
But with the experience of the previous two times, Duncan this time extraordinarily patient, he silently counted the time, silent waiting, silent observation, let time flow.
It was as if he himself hadn’t noticed that he was actively expecting the figure to reappear.
And then, a small, dark figure did appear in his field of vision.
Between one wave and another, the dark figure rushed into Duncan’s eyes; it was a beautifully crafted wooden crate, breaking the surface of the sea like a lone boat in the wind and waves, and the beautiful gothic mannequin was standing in the crate, holding her ornate casket lid in a rather imposing pose, paddling playfully forward from side to side in the wind and waves.
A gothic doll standing in a coffin waving the lid to ride the waves.
Elegant is not so elegant anymore, evil is really fucking more evil than eight cannonballs.
Duncan was greatly shocked.
(Mom yeah!)
