Chapter 556: The Original Ancient God
The bodies didn’t go to waste, Paris carried the four bodies to the back of the longhouse where Owen was performing the initial autopsy.
Owen was familiar with human anatomy and had experience with body modification, so it wasn’t a haphazard dissection.
After an unknown amount of time, when the four corpses became fragmented and gave off an unpleasant odor, Owen wiped his hands and left Paris to dispose of the bodies before he began to record the harvest in his notes.
“Can’t really call it a curse, or even a spell.” Owen whispered to himself before listing off various guesses and then crossing them off one by one in rebuttal.
Now Owen knew why those mages called the seafood curse a new type of curse, because it was so complex, and not yet the kind that stitched up monsters, but chaotic, that it was impossible to tell the difference.
It is now known that the seafood curse carries obvious curse characteristics, such as changing the form with the ability to spread, the difference is that this change is permanent, not simply twisted with magic.
It was just that with Owen’s accumulation in biology it was difficult to understand how human beings could be fused together with seafood, it was two sets of biological constructs that were completely bullheaded.
It was outrageous that it just appeared and did not produce a rejection reaction, and there were signs of amphibianization.
Because of his lack of learning and inability to do anything with his spells, Owen cheated a little and used his divine sense for a more in-depth perception, resulting in a shocking discovery.
“No wonder the Fortune Bay is helpless, if the Goddess of Fortune hadn’t fallen, the Fortune Temple might have a way to exorcise the curse, but unfortunately there’s only a Coastal Guardian God with weak divine power now.” Owen shook his head and looked in the direction of Fortune Bay with a bit of pity, because where had been targeted by an ancient god.
The current gods and goddesses belonged to the new gods, products of the material world that had been optimized many times, characterized by their heavy reliance on the material world, regardless of the divinity, priesthood, beliefs, or authority needed to become a god, all needed to be provided by the material world.
It was the same as starting a business and mixing with the financial circle, seemingly calling the shots, but in fact some of what they possessed were all categorized into one circle, so once a god or goddess was abandoned by the material world, they could only go to the void to lie down their corpses.
Such a heavy dependence was intentional, because before that the Material Realm had spawned another kind of god, the Ancient Gods.
The gods were born as guardians spawned by the Material Realm in order to fight against the invasion of the outside world, and because they were inexperienced the first time around, they ended up creating a monster out of it.
Because of the costless catalysis, the ancient god had an immortal body at the origin level, and the assimilation ability to devour everything, which allowed the ancient god to not need to back down when facing any opponent and get stronger and stronger the more they fought, as long as they didn’t destroy them in the first place, the ancient god would assimilate the environment, transforming it into a more suitable place for them to play and devouring and adapting to the opponent’s power to make targeted evolutions.
Such a powerful Ancient God does play an important role, being able to stand in the front line and perfectly guard the Material Realm.
But the long battles and devouring made it inevitable that the Ancient Gods were contaminated, eventually becoming one of the sources of chaos.
How the problem of ancient gods was solved in the first place, Owen didn’t know, no matter the god net or Kim, he didn’t get the answer, after all, the era of the ancient gods was too far away from now, even for the gods and goddesses it belonged to the level of myth.
Although the gods and goddesses are immortal, it doesn’t mean that they are immortal, in fact the gods and goddesses that can live for ten thousand years are few and far between, the vast majority of the gods and goddesses only have a lifespan of a few thousand years, and then they will be sealed, fall, disappear, and lie in wait for a variety of reasons, so they don’t know so much about the things that are too far away.
In fact if there weren’t sealed ancient gods being discovered one after another, it would still be a myth within a myth.
The good thing is that although the ancient gods are powerful, their intelligence is not high, and the most powerful batch has already disappeared in the river of time, the intermediate level ones are strictly guarded, and the only ones that are numerous and weak are sealed everywhere, and they pop up from time to time.
I am afraid that the sealed ancient gods of this realm are now leaking, and only the power of the ancient gods can be so chaotic and difficult to deal with. After knowing about this, Owen had no intention of informing others, or even getting involved, instead he prepared to move, but when he learned about Fortune Bay’s mission bounty that had been increased layer by layer, it had to be said that his heart was moved.
At most, he would lose a Divine Sense with two slaves, and thinking about this, Owen’s motivation came.
Putting on his armor, with a mace in one hand and a long sword in the other, Owen led Paris and the cat-eared maid to Fortune Bay.
Along the way, they are not alone, there are those who escape from the Fortune Bay, naturally there are those who want to go in, it’s just a matter of interest, who let the Fortune Bay give too much, even Owen can’t help but take a risk, not to mention the other adventurers.
“What the hell!” Owen rarely spat out obscenities, in his perspective, the invisible waves from the sea were constantly washing away Fortune Bay, this was not real, but worse than real, this was the domain of the Ancient God eroding and distorting reality.
If it wasn’t for the Coast Guardian Shrine holding up an invisible seawall as a buffer, hell knows what the hell Fortune Bay would have become by now.
Once Fortune Bay completely fell, although the sealed Ancient God wouldn’t be able to completely get out of the trap, it wouldn’t be much of a problem to at least detach a doppelganger.
What was problematic was how to take out an ancient god’s bilocation in the realm.
The new gods have all sorts of limitations, it is difficult to directly affect the material world, demigods are already the limit, for that matter, there is still a statute of limitations, while the ancient gods are not limited, and are even able to arbitrarily annex and merge with the realm where they are located, transforming it into their own domains or god kingdoms.
Therefore, when a god or goddess faces an ancient god, if they are unable to reseal it at the initial stage, then the best way is to directly destroy the other party’s realm, and then defeat it in the void and reseal it.
Either way, Ancient Gods represented trouble, huge trouble.
Although Fortune Bay was a seaport city, because of the residential group, not only was it built tall and majestic, but it was also very attentive in terms of greenery, at least on the other side of the seaport, it was dotted with fountains and flower beds, and the four-season climate also allowed for a hundred flowers to bloom here, shrouding it in floral scent for most of the year, whereas it was now filled with lingering sea odors.
What makes one’s heart fearful is that the eyes of the civilians here look extraordinarily large, but the eyes are large and lifeless, just as if they had collectively turned into dead fish eyes, what is even more frightening is that there are traces of the seafood curse on these people, such as scales or flippers, and even in the pools of water immersed in the extremely serious mutation of the civilian population, which looks like a random fusion of people and a kind of seafood together.
The fish and shrimp and whatnot were not so bad, at least they could move freely, the ones fused together with sea cucumbers and whatnot of soft-bodied creatures could now only squirm underwater, and their heads and tails were almost indistinguishable from each other.
Even more horrifying was the one fused with the sea anemone, whose nearly melted body was now stuck to the pool, and the thin tentacles sticking out of its wide-open mouth were like a nightmare.
It was hard to say if these things could still be called human, many adventurers vomited while twisting their heads and left, no one was willing to take the risk of turning into this ghostly appearance to stay.
The bounty is generous, but what’s the point of having money when you turn into a fish.
However, there are still some who don’t want to die, in their opinion, without money, why do they need to die.
Besides, Fortune Bay has become this appearance, is not it give them the opportunity to fish in troubled waters, as long as the looting of a few nobles, the rest of their lives can lie down completely.
