Chapter 58: Harvesting the Nets
Chapter 58 Harvesting the Nets
On March 19, 1848, Frederick William IV was forced to announce the abolition of the book and newspaper inspection system and sent a diplomatic note to the German states asking for a joint conference of the states.
On March 23, Frederick William IV also announced the annexation of Prussia to Germany.
Metternich’s hope of establishing a triple alliance between Prussia, Austria and Russia was dashed, and Prussia’s diplomatic relations with Austria and Russia deteriorated sharply.
For the unification of Germany, Austria was a chop that could not be bypassed, and the central question was who would be the boss?
In terms of strength, Austria seems to be stronger than Prussia, but because of the relationship between the domestic issues, Prussia does not have an absolute advantage; in terms of influence, Austria far more than Prussia.
Historically, Bismarck, the Iron Chancellor, found out this problem early, he first used diplomacy to isolate Austria, and then took the opportunity of the Austro-French War just past to take advantage of the situation to defeat Austria and kick Austria out of Germany.
What Frederick William IV did now was undoubtedly to expose Prussia’s ambition to unify Germany, which was something Austria could not tolerate.
Equally unacceptable was the Russians, the Tsarist government did not want to see the unification of Central Europe, which would shake their continental hegemony.
Against this background, Russian-Austrian relations began to warm up, and Franz waited for the good news that Tsar Nicholas I made a public statement that he was willing to help Austria to suppress the Italian revolution.
Although this support was only verbal and Russia would not send troops to help Austria fight the Kingdom of Sardinia, this was enough for Franz.
Ever since the war against France, there was a two-power pattern in Europe – Britain and Russia were standing side by side, and with the support of the Russians, it was impossible for the British to support the Kingdom of Sardinia at the risk of a full-scale war breaking out.
“Prime Minister, we can close the net now.” Franz said calmly
“Yes, Your Highness!” Felix replied
……
Bragg.
“Mr. Raine, quick, something big is happening!”
“Coulson slow down, what’s happening?” Rehn’s man asked with concern
“The Austrian government has decided to execute Vera and the others, over a hundred political prisoners in all, all in three days!” Coulson said in fear
This was definitely the worst possible outcome, it was rare for such a mass execution of political prisoners to happen in Europe, especially since there were capitalists and aristocrats among these hundred or so people.
Lehane was silent, he wasn’t some middle-aged teenager. The Austrian government had suddenly gotten tough, and it was clearly not normal.
But the people couldn’t be saved, or else the hearts would be scattered and the team wouldn’t be able to lead.
The revolutionary enthusiasm of the people in the Czech region was already low, they could only rely on the capitalists and aristocrats to start a revolution, if they couldn’t come with effective measures, it wouldn’t be long before these people would turn against them.
Historically, the outbreak of the Prague Uprising was quickly suppressed because the local aristocrats and capitalists realized that there was no future in hanging out with the revolutionaries and sold them out.
Mobilizing the people to rise up in revolution?
Well, just think about such things. The Czech regional revolutionaries were basically the sons of capitalists and the side branches of the nobility, at worst the middle class.
They want to revolutionize, essentially to defend their own rights and interests, and sacrificing their own interests to bring in the underclass is non-existent.
Historically, after suppressing the Prague Uprising, it was also possible to organize an army in the Czech region to suppress the Hungarian rebellion, so you know who the hearts and minds of the people were towards.
“How many troops are left in the city?” Raine asked with concern
“I heard that the Italian battlefield is tight, and yesterday another two thousand men were transferred from here, so there can’t be more than eighteen hundred soldiers in the city.” The eye man whispered
“Is the news reliable?” Rayne asked with concern
“This is what I heard this morning when I was chatting with a friend from the city defense army, it should be reliable, army movements can’t fool anyone!” The eye man explained
“Mr. Rayne, this news should be accurate, I also saw an army leaving the city yesterday, and none of them have returned yet!” Coulson added
“Well then, let’s immediately make preparations and take action two nights later to overthrow this rotten Austrian empire in one fell swoop and establish an independent Czech Republic!” Rehn said passionately
“Mr. Rehn, how can we solve the problem of weapons? We can’t just rely on these dozens of guns in our hands to overthrow the Austrian government, right?” A pale man asked
As a conservative in the Revolutionary Party, he was against the most extreme revolution by force, and if it wasn’t for the fact that the Austrian government was going to go on a killing spree this time around, he wouldn’t have even endorsed the launching of an uprising.
“I can find a way to raise twenty guns from my relatives and friends!” The man with the glasses spoke up
“I can also get a dozen guns from home!” Coulson thought for a moment and said
With that, everyone chimed in with their numbers, and after a few moments of work, an infantry battalion’s worth of weaponry came out.
Obviously, the recently introduced policies of the Vienna government had made the local aristocracy very unhappy, otherwise the revolutionaries wouldn’t have been able to obtain weaponry.
……
A premeditated rebellion, so child’s play unfolded, all the members of the revolutionary party are voluntary participation, each other do not have any coercive binding force, relying on just the leader’s charisma.
Secrecy was not possible, the Czech Revolutionary Party was a grassroots organization, and all kinds of people were welcome.
Those who attended the meeting were of high status and were considered reliable. In fact, after the meeting was over, the contents of the meeting were organized into a policy that evening and sent to Prince Windischgraetz.
If one wanted to extinguish this rebellion, the police in the Prague area could do it.
Obviously this was not what the government of Vienna wanted, the rebellion had not yet occurred, and now the only arrests would be the small fry in plain sight.
Leaving behind the scenes, this would create serious pitfalls for the future rule of the Czech region.
It was as if Prince Windischgraetz knew nothing about it, and even before the revolution broke out, he organized a field exercise in which most of the police and army in the city of Prague participated.
On April 12, 1848, taking advantage of Prince Windischgrez’s departure, the Prague Uprising broke out, and with the cooperation of the local nobility and capitalists, the city of Prague was captured in one fell swoop.
“Mr. Lehane is bad, the armory is empty, it is said that the corrupt government officials have sold all the ammunition inside, what should we do now?” Coulson said in fear
This statement, is simply fooling the ghost, even if the Austrian government is more corrupt, it is impossible to sell all the weapons and ammunition, ah?
“Being used as a pawn!”
This was his first reaction, originally this uprising, it was smooth as silk, almost did not meet any resistance, captured Prague, now if he still does not understand, Raine is a fool.
