Chapter 720 – Both Sides of the Gate
Chapter 720 – Both Sides of the Big Door
Sherry’s consciousness jolted awake from the collapsing dream, and she opened her eyes in the darkness to see that she was still lying in the dark bush that looked like a thorn bush.
Murmurs and whispers and strange hissing seemed to be so close to her ears that they almost penetrated her brain, and cold air currents spread through the crevices of the shadows like nauseating tentacles, as if to lick at her skin, and there was something beyond the bushes, a group of writhing creatures of indeterminate size and indistinguishable solid outlines, which, catching the scent of living beings, had found their way across the long distances to the hideout –A feast was about to begin.
Shirley jerked her arm slightly, the stiffness and numbness of her entire body making every movement exceptionally difficult, but she felt a slight heat permeating from somewhere inside her body, re-nourishing the shell that had just died.
She lowered her head with difficulty and saw that the heart within her chest had completely stopped beating and had crumpled and withered into a black residue in just a few seconds, yet a faint wisp of ethereal green flame was quietly burning on the surface of that residue, eerie, but warm.
She regained a bit more strength from this limited warmth and slowly struggled to rise.
With an involuntary swing of her arm, the broken black chain on her right arm rubbed against the ground, emitting a noise that wasn’t very loud, but was downright shrill in this dark, silent place.
The murmuring and hissing noise outside the bushes paused for a brief moment, then suddenly turned into a chilling whine!
Countless rising and falling and undulating shadows rumbled from the fragmented expanse outside, and countless spectral demons of hideous and grotesque forms took shape in ecstasy and ran wildly to the feast!
Spirit fire spread and burned in the crevices of the skeleton, the black residue in her chest cavity had been completely transformed into an unceasing flame, Shirley inhaled deeply, she heard the commotion outside, the fear of death and an indescribable restlessness were simultaneously surging upward in her consciousness, and she gasped in a small breath, while out of the corner of her eye, she saw the two hearts that had fallen to the ground.
After a moment’s hesitation, she reached out her hand and picked up the two still-beating hearts, her eyes filled with blood-colored shimmering light.
There was a cracking sound from the edge of the bushes, and a huge beast tore through the barrier of the hideout, its heavy footsteps and low roar of appetite reaching Shirley’s ears.
But it was as if she didn’t hear the sound that had come to her head, didn’t feel the breath that had blown in her face, she just lowered her head, slowly stuffed those two hearts into her chest, and muttered in a small voice as if she were talking to herself, “Dad …… mom …… Don’t be afraid ……”
The feeling of a beating heart reappeared in her chest, a kind of “living” experience made her feel that the last remaining stiffness and sluggishness in her limbs had finally subsided completely, Shirley braced herself and stood up, a series of crackling and popping noises erupted from inside her body, while layers of bone spurs rapidly grew from the edges of the dark ribs of her chest, protecting the two hearts and a cluster of fire from the fire. hearts and a cluster of fire protected within – she raised her head in the darkness, her body slowly drawing up while a hideous, grotesque, demonic skull with spikes all over its surface came into view.
The bushes in the hiding place had been torn open in a huge fissure, and the huge floating cranium looked down with malice on its prey in the bushes, while around the cranium were countless ghastly figures hovering around it – tell-tale birds, sooty jellyfish, misplaced dinosaurs ……
Dog had once said that if he encountered them while alone, he must run.
But this is the Profound Deep Sea, and there’s no place to run here – they’re everywhere.
“Shirley, don’t be afraid ……”
A tell-tale bird was the first to attack, the chaotic and unintelligent demon finally had trouble suppressing the hunger in its instincts as well as its desire to attack, and it let out a sharp and ear-piercing whistling cry, its wings suddenly expanding into a cloud of gloom, wrapped in a corrosive cloud that swooped down towards the trees-
And then, accompanied by a dull piercing sound, a pitch-black, multi-jointed bone splinter pierced into the sky like a sword, running the bird straight through!
Immediately after that, there was another multi-jointed bone spike – the black skeleton stretched out from the bushes like some kind of twisted and symmetrical limbs, first stabbing into the sky, then bending down again, holding up a tall body as it stepped out from the bushes.
Her limbs were long and slender, dark bone fragments covered in layers and interlocking clumps like some kind of close-fitting armor, sharp bone spikes and bladed structures grew out of the joints of her arms and legs, glittering with a dark bloody light, her shattered chest was covered with shattered bones like thorns, and two dark-red hearts beat slowly in the bone cages, and countless knuckle-limbed bony structures stretched out from her back, resembling a skeleton’s giant wings, yet like grotesque and unearthly limbs, these pairs of limbs curved down from the air and propped her body up high in the sky like long legs, allowing her to look down on the spectral demons that had converged here from all directions.
Slowly she turned her head, and a pair of empty, void eyes grew bloodshot in a face that retained its human form.
A hoarse, ear-piercing cry came from the side, and the bird that had been penetrated by the sharp bone spikes struggled violently on Shirley’s “long feet” for a few moments, and then turned into a pile of smoke and dust that quickly dispersed, as well as a small puddle of mud that slowly flowed down, which was little by little absorbed into Shirley’s bone spikes.
Shirley frowned slightly, looking at the location where the tell-tale bird had dissipated and dissolved, and lifted the bone-spiked knobby limb and flung it vigorously in the air, “…… Disgusting, unpalatable ……”
She then turned her head and looked towards the demons who had gathered around her, but who had been in a moment of confused stupor due to the sudden change in circumstances, and bent down slightly, “Have you, by any chance, seen, a strange Phantom Hound, it’s name is Dog – it’s a friend of mine. ”
The group of demons briefly stepped back, some sort of crisis instinct bringing the option of avoidance to their uneducated minds, but only moments later, the desire to attack overwhelmed this fragile “sanity”. The strange floating skull with spikes all over its surface suddenly opened its jaws, and a huge corrosive cloud instantly coalesced, slamming straight in Sherry’s direction.
Immediately followed by the circling and swooping tell-tale birds from the air, the Profound Hounds that ran and hissed wildly on the ground, as well as countless strangely shaped monsters that even Shirley couldn’t name – these Profound Demons that acted entirely on instincts rushed over in a brainstorm, hissing and roaring, and rushed towards the territories in a frenzy of confusion “Invaders”!
“I knew it… knew it ……”
Shirley grunted, annoyance in her tone, and in the next instant, her figure snapped into an illusory shadow –
She rolled across this fragmented earth like the wind, those bone spikes like skeleton wings and curved knuckle limbs stretching and piercing through the air, stabbing at every demonic entity that dared to come close – without any tactics or knowledge of magic spells, with only her newly mastered physical instincts and the most basic speed and strength, she rushed into the uncountable demonic clusters.
A simple and crude way of thinking about battle – just as she had done when she had first swung her chains and hurled Dog at her enemies.
……
Lucrecia tilted her head back and looked at the black stone door that had stunned even a veteran Border Scholar, and it took her a while to withdraw her gaze.
“…… They’ve really dug up something,” the sea witch sighed, “These cultists are always making messes they can’t even control… . as usual.”
“This is the point where the Deep and the real world connect,” Duncan said from the sidelines, “From what I’ve sensed, there’s a multi-dimensional ‘overlap’ here, and not only is real time and space iterated together, but a portion of the Deep is directly iterated here as well. A part of it is also directly iterated here, Shirley and Dog should be because their own nature is too close to the side of the Profound, causing them to directly ‘fall’ to the ‘opposite side’.”
Lucrecia nodded, then but was a bit worried, “…… Are you really sure this will work? I’m not saying that your power can’t open the gate, but …… if that ‘saint’ can’t hold out and causes the gate to close early, how will you come back then? The opposite side of the gate is the Profound Deep Sea, we know very little about it, and even you, I’m afraid that if you get lost on the other side ……”
“It’s okay, I’ve considered this problem,” Duncan interrupted Lucrecia’s worry, “We all know that the very center of the Profound Deep Sea is the Profound Holy Lord, and underneath His ‘Throne’ is the Subspace passageway.”
Lucrecia’s expression was instantly somewhat subtle, “…… What do you mean?”
“Punching a small hole, I think it won’t affect the balance of the entire Profound Deep Sea too much, after all, the gap that the Lost Country ship crashed out in the Profound Deep Sea in the first place was much larger in scale,” Duncan said casually, “If I can’t return by the original way, I’ll come back from the subspace, and that ‘ Holy Lord’ shouldn’t have too much of a problem with that – if that’s not feasible, then I’ll simply call the Lost Country to go down and crash it again.”
Lucrecia: “……”
Duncan, on the other hand, simply waves his hand, “Let us begin.”
Lucrecia saw that her father was ready and said nothing more, she nodded gently and then went to the open space in front of the large door and pointed the short baton in her hand towards the ground and tapped it twice.
A smoke like a magic show on the stage “bang” rose up, along with the smoke dispersed, that has a strange and disgusting shape, wrapped up by the spider bone cage “brain” appeared in front of Duncan again.
“The Saint woke up slowly.
At the edge of the skeleton cage, an eye stalk seemed to revive from its slumber, and its many eyeballs twitched and fluttered for a while, finally noticing its surroundings, as well as Duncan and his entourage, who stood beside it with no expression on their faces.
Almost instantly, this monster, which could no longer be considered human at all, came to its senses completely, struggling as if it wanted to get up, but it could not move the slightest bit because of the restrictions imposed by the witch in advance, and could only vibrate the air around it, letting out a chaotic and piercing roar, “What have you done?!”
“Not yet, just about to start,” Duncan took a step towards the ‘saint’, gazing calmly at the sickening pile of eye stalks, “You may begin your prayers – to your Lord. -to your Lord.”
