Chapter 712: Vanna’s “Fame”

Chapter 712 – Vanna’s “Fame”

In the mist, three small boats docked silently at the end of a gentle ramp at the corner of the harbor.

Duncan was the first to set foot on the strange island that the Annihilists called “holy ground”.

The surrounding area was silent, and the floating mist had a slight chill in it. The man-made buildings inside the harbor were scattered at different heights and appeared hazy due to the mist, and the borders of the buildings seemed to merge with the terrain in the distance, with their outlines blurring together, while a few dim lights penetrated through the mist in the far distance, which could not bring people a feeling of peace of mind in the slightest.

“There’s no movement at all …… ” Shirley felt the chill permeating the mist and subconsciously hugged and rubbed her arms together, muttering as she surveyed the surroundings, “Dog do you smell the ‘ human smell’?”

“There’s no scent of the living, only a little bit of the dead, mixed in with the rich, ethereal scent,”, Dog muttered, carefully sensing its surroundings, the blood-colored shimmering light flickering in and out of its empty eye sockets, “…… . the feeling of ‘old home’ is becoming more and more obvious, not only in terms of scent, but even in terms of ‘atmosphere’ …… it’s a bit similar. ”

It raised its head and looked at the inland of the island shrouded in mist with its empty eye sockets, and in its tone it was a bit confused again, “There are many things here that are similar to the feeling of my ‘old home’, but they are …… not so much like each other, I can’t describe this feeling.”

“This is the environment in your old home, Dog?” Shirley’s focus, however, was clearly in another direction, “Then this living environment of yours can be substandard enough, no wonder you said that the Spectral Demons in your old home usually only gnaw on rocks in addition to each other ……”

“I don’t like the atmosphere of this place,” Vanna, on the other hand, frowned tightly and whispered while alerting her surroundings, “This place always reminds me of the Frost City State back then ……”

Shirley waved her hand, “Mists, silent streets, writhing mud, and protozoan clones popping up out of nowhere right, we get it ……”

Duncan didn’t care about the conversation around him, and after confirming that there wasn’t even a single living soul around here, he waved at the marines who were getting out of the two two small boats, signaling for all to follow while striding towards the dim lights that glowed hazily in the mist.

The atmosphere around them was strange and disturbing, which made everyone raise their alertness – everyone had imagined what kind of danger there would be in the lair that the Annihilationists called the “holy land”, they had imagined that there might be thousands of ferocious armed heathens here, they had imagined that there might be thousands of ferocious armed heathens here, they had imagined that there might be thousands of ferocious armed heathens here, they had imagined that there might be thousands of ferocious armed heathens here. They have imagined that there may be thousands of ferocious armed pagans here, they have imagined that there may be countless traps and flesh and blood monsters created by devil worshippers here, and they have even imagined that the Annihilation Order has secretly built a powerful fleet that will give the exploring team a head-on attack in this mist …….

However, a “ghost island” without any living person’s scent is not in any of these scenarios.

Vanna reached behind her back and took down her own alloy sword, gripping it tightly in her hand – she had plenty of time to prepare for this quest, so she didn’t have to use her ice-condensed sword as a temporary emergency, as she had done in the previous hasty situations.

Holding the familiar “fighting partner” in her hand made her heart a little more solid.

The sound of footsteps approached, and a young lady wearing close-fitting armor similar to Vanna’s light armor, with a large sword on her back, walked over.

Vanna remembered that the other woman was the lead cleric sent down from the Tidal Wave, the leader of the eleven marines.

Under her curious and somewhat puzzled gaze, the young magistrate carrying a greatsword came to her side, and while walking, she whispered in a somewhat excited tone, “You’re Your Excellency, Vanna Wayne, aren’t you? The Legendary Inquisitor from Prand, the most powerful …… ever.”

“A …… Legendary Inquisitor? I don’t know when I had such a name,” Vanna frowned and seemed a bit embarrassed, “but I am indeed Vanna Wayne. What is it that you wanted to see me about?”

“My …… name is Amber,” the Goddess Officer said hurriedly, “I’ve heard of many of your deeds …… such as the time you leapt off a cliff and beheaded the Evil God’s children who had invaded the city-state, such as your leap from the roof of the cathedral to decapitate cultists intent on destroying the church, and your leap from the lighthouse on the sea cliffs ……”

Vanna didn’t wait for the other to finish before she felt a bit tense and hurriedly waved her hand, “Stop, I don’t have that many records of decapitations in one leap – the legends are mostly exaggerated.”

“You …… are very humble,” Amber laughed, and followed up by pointing to the greatsword she carried behind her back – a sword that was already larger than the standard steel swords used by most of the Deep Sea Magi More than one, but still a far cry from the giant alloy sword in Vanna’s hand, “I’m also trying to learn your fighting style, which my mentor says is the oldest yet most practical decapitation technique in Storm Swordsmanship …… Of course, it’s certainly a far cry from yours now! ……”

Vanna opened her mouth and barely managed to stifle a, “Ah, well …… cheers.”

“I’m still working on it,” Amber nodded vigorously, then hesitated and asked, “But …… what exactly should I do to have power like yours? I’ve heard about many of your battles …… Do you have any unique training techniques?”

Vanna’s expression grew more and more awkward as she subconsciously glanced in Duncan’s direction, only to realize that the captain had no intention of hitting this side of the table, and could only hold her tongue for a few seconds before venturing out, “Eat more meat.”

Amber: “…… Huh?”

“And drink a lot of hot water, go to bed early and get up early, regular routine.” Vanna also seemed to feel that this answer of hers was not very convincing, and added after thinking about it.

Amber’s expression gradually became with a “Huh?” It was already hard to describe – that was more close to stagnation, “Just …… that’s all?”

“Well, then remember to pray every day, pour out your heart’s confusion and perplexity to the Goddess, and don’t save your stress and turmoil in that regard for the next day,” Vanna nodded, “as well as, finally and most importantly- ” Amber’s expression finally changed, instantly very serious, “The most important point?”

Vanna thought for a moment, her face looking at the junior in front of her with extra seriousness, and intoned, “Don’t make any blind vows in your spare time – if you’ve already made them, don’t add to them just because the heat of the moment gets to you, you’ll get yourself stuck.”

Amber’s expression once again became dumbfounded, “…… Huh?”

But Vanna was already walking away – after leaving a certain “junior” behind who had embarrassed her, she took three steps to Duncan’s side and hurried on with her head bowed.

Duncan, however, had been listening to the commotion behind him, and when he saw Vanna approaching, he finally smiled and spoke, “It sounds like you’re popular amongst your own people – even now that you’ve been removed from the Inquisitor’s position and out of the public eye. ”

“…… It happens once in a while, more often when I’m in the city-state,” Vanna hung her head, finally able to complain a little about these “little nuisances” in the captain’s presence, “And it’s not like they’re common knowledge! “And no matter how many times I encounter it, I can never get used to it.”

Morris fished out his pipe from his pocket and held it in his mouth without lighting it, but only sniffed and casually mumbled, “And I don’t know why, but it’s always the girls who chase after her …….”

Duncan at once looked with subtle eyes to the Inquisitor lady beside him, only to see the latter showing a lifeless expression towards himself, “…… You don’t have to look …… I don’t know why… …”

What else could Duncan say? He now only thought it was quite unbelievable that this beautiful strong woman could still have a normal friend like Heidi …… It probably had something to do with the fact that Heidi was a science student?

It wasn’t like it had much to do with him anyway – it was just interesting to see the normally calm and reliable Vanna have such a clueless and awkward side.

At that moment, Shirley, who was walking on the other side of the line, seemed to have suddenly tripped over her feet and stumbled, “Oh shit!”

Dog instantly reacted, his neck threw back and yanked Shirley, who almost planted herself out, by the chain: “What’s going on?!”

Shirley turned her head cursing as she stood up and stabilized her body, “What the hell kind of shitty road is this, something just tripped me up ……”

In the middle of her sentence, her voice came to a screeching halt, staring wide-eyed at the place she almost tripped over just now, and the words she didn’t finish later turned into a short exclamation of surprise: “Grass!?”

Several lines of sight instantly focused on the direction her gaze was looking.

Duncan also saw what it was that nearly tripped Sherry just now – it was an arm.

Technically speaking, it was a black arm that was ’embedded’ in the road, seemingly blending in with the surrounding road surface, and its texture seemed to be solidified by silt!
Duncan’s eyes instantly condensed slightly, quickly stepped to the “arm” near.

It was a section of bent upper arm, elbow and small arm, its black mud-like texture and the surrounding road surface completely fused together, even as if from the road surface directly “grow” up a piece of material.

One cannot help but think that underneath the pavement there might be a more complete body connected to this arm!

Almost at the same time, Amber, the Goddess of the Deep, who was walking not far away, also found something in the fog: “There’s something over here too!”

What Amber found was a section of torso protruding from the road, with a mutilated head and an arm that seemed to be struggling to reach forward – the arm and head looked like the “humanoid billets” that the Combined Fleet had seen floating on the surface of the sea near Sanctuary Island! The arms and head looked like the “human rough” seen by the United Fleet floating on the surface of the sea near the Holy Land Island, black as silt, and lacking in details of the limbs and features.

But its posture was enough for people to imagine the desperate and frightening scene when this “humanoid rough” struggled to climb out of some kind of substance that swallowed itself.

Duncan looked at the body “embedded” in the pavement with a grave expression, and a picture already emerged in his mind – the earth softening like mud, the owner of this body being swallowed by the road under his feet, his body melting like mud into another mud, struggling for his life! Slightly delaying the onset of death, but after a brief and useless clinging, he was left here permanently ……

And yet Sherry and Amber’s discovery was only the beginning.

Just half a minute later, the Marines, who had expanded their search, found more …… bodies that blended in with their surroundings.

Dense, everywhere in the fog.
