Chapter 726: Night Scene

Chapter 726: Night View
Due to the accident on the orange cat’s side, Saul and Whitebeard were not able to get the air cannon’s support in time, and the two of them were momentarily trapped among the tree root walls, and surprisingly, there was no way to move in or out.

“Kate!!!” Whitebeard shouted at the top of his lungs, “Whatever you’ve encountered, release the Air Cannon first, or there’s no way we can get over there to help you!”

Apparently Kate was Orange Cat’s real name.

Whitebeard was afraid that Orange Cat wouldn’t understand the code name in his panic, so he shouted out the other’s name to try to call his attention.

Whitebeard’s words had some effect, but not much.

Orange Cat Kate literally let loose a small air blast.

But the air cannon hit askew, nearly twenty meters away from the two, and about the same distance as the two to the large tree stump.

“Shit.” Whitebeard couldn’t help but curse out at the sight.

Whitebeard actually had an alternative plan to deal with this situation, but that plan could only preserve himself.

It wasn’t that he was so kind as to want to save Saul, it was just that it was hard to gather a team that worked well together, and it would be a shame to disband it just like that.

The most crucial thing was that the next time he could get this close to the big stump was not known how long it would be until later.

Just as Whitebeard hesitated to use his last resort, Saul suddenly jumped into the air.

Immediately afterward, a large number of tree roots followed to attack him.

Whitebeard was wondering if Saul had given up and wanted to escape when a large number of black blades suddenly appeared around Saul.

But this time, the blades were so black that they glowed, unlike their previous dull state.

“He actually transformed Jasim’s strongest sorcery?”

The black sharp blades shot out, instantly cutting off all the tree roots attacking Sol and plunging into the nearby tree root walls, leaving behind a trail of tiny holes.

More black sharp blades were fired in the direction of the large tree stump, shooting the tree root wall over there into cheese.

But that’s all it looked like.

In terms of attack power it didn’t seem any stronger than the original Soul Blade.

However, the thing that almost made Whitebeard pull out his beard in shock happened.

This time, the roots of the tree that had been cut off by the bright black blade didn’t even repair themselves.

Not only that, as if the roots had met a corrosive liquid, the wound pierced by the blade was still expanding.

Toward the big tree stump side was even more exaggerated, without Whitebeard’s hands, the tree root wall was corroded out of a big hole.

Thor dropped down and looked at the dumbfounded Whitebeard with an expressionless face, “This is my killer weapon now. Get out of here before the effect wears off.”

After saying that, Saul rushed into the broken tree root wall first and continued to approach the large tree stump.

Despite having been demonstrated by Saul, Whitebeard cautiously observed for two seconds before following.

He was afraid of being affected by the corrosive effects of Saul’s sorcery.

To prevent being trapped, he still chased after Saul before his back disappeared.

Just after entering the group of broken tree roots, he really felt a bit uncomfortable, although it wasn’t very serious, but he could see how terrifying Saul’s attack just now was.

And this uncomfortable feeling was also somewhat familiar, it seemed to be some kind of contamination, but he couldn’t recall where he had felt the same aura for a while.

There was no time to think more, Whitebeard eliminated the roots that appeared sporadically along the way, and finally arrived in front of the large tree stump.

The large stump was only two meters tall, and Whitebeard was at the same height.

With a gentle leap, he jumped up.

As he jumped, two thoughts flashed through his mind.

The first one was: this sorcery of the Blackblade Wizard lasts quite a long time, and the roots of the tree show no signs of recovering even after we have rushed here.

The second was: how come we didn’t see Black Blade and Kate who just rushed here?
When Whitebeard’s feet landed on the ground and stepped on the section of the tree stump that was as fresh as a brand new cut, the scene in front of him swished and changed.

“Illusion?” Instead of panicking, Whitebeard immediately began to look around and spread his mental power, trying to find Saul and Kate who had come up earlier.

Now, there were no stumps or densely entangled roots around him.

Not only that, even the time had changed.

It was just as the sun was rising over the horizon when they made their move.

By the time he stepped on top of the big stump a half hour had passed at most.

But at that moment there was a crescent moon above his head. The time went from day to night.

Under his feet was a clean and tidy stone path.

On either side were towering buildings, vaguely lit by a few windows, mostly dim.

If Saul had been here, he would have recognized that this was clearly a nighttime view of the downtown area before the destruction of the city of Kaukoustine.

There was just something unusual about the night scene here.

Black silhouettes sometimes appeared in the lit rooms around them, but not when they looked closely over.

“Hmph.” Whitebeard sneered, “Using such low-rank scare tactics against second-order sorcerers as well?”

Still, he cautiously walked to the middle of the road, away from the nearby buildings.

It wasn’t that he was being tough-talking, but he was actually worried that there would be traps hidden in this bizarre scene that could harm him.

He wasn’t afraid of ghosts, he wasn’t afraid of ghosts that faked and couldn’t harm him, not ghosts that were as powerful as second or third order.

There was a street lamp a dozen meters on each side of the road.

But the lights were dim, only allowing one to barely see the road ahead.

Even if Whitebeard was a second-order sorcerer with the ability to see in the dark, he couldn’t.

The entire illusion was sending signals to his brain that he couldn’t see.

“Since I’m in here, the Black Blade Wizard and Kate should be here as well, I just don’t know if the illusion will make us unable to see each other, or even treat each other as enemies?”

“Let’s not look for anyone first, let’s first find that source in the illusion that is affecting my mental body, and after eliminating the source, we will naturally be able to get out of the illusion as well.”

In a few thoughts, Whitebeard had already made his decision.

Instead of standing in place and waiting, he took a step forward.

“Since I appeared facing this way, the source of the illusion should also want me to move forward.”

Following the illusion’s guidance made it easier to encounter dangers, but it also made it quicker to spot the breaks.

Whitebeard had confidence in his own strength, and naturally felt that a stillness was better than a movement.

“Meow.”

He had just walked less than ten meters away when he heard a cat call.

Whitebeard snorted, “Sure enough, there’s been a change.”

“Meow.”

Another cat purred.

“That’s not a very good imitation. Kate may look like a cat, but there’s still some difference between his voice and a real cat.”

Despite having recognized his opponent’s disguise, Whitebeard walked up.

“Let me see who’s barking?”

He followed the sound and continued onward.

The streetlight overhead flickered a few times, as if the voodoo prop device inside was malfunctioning. With each flicker, the lights dimmed a little more again.

After the streetlight flickered for the fourth time, a huge cat shadow suddenly appeared under a streetlight in front of Whitebeard.

Because the lights were dim, Whitebeard could only vaguely see the outline of the cat in front of him.

He frowned slightly, feeling that there was something strange about the cat’s appearance.

“Trying to mimic Kate’s likeness, but it’s a whole lot bigger. And what’s with those limbs? Is that cat standing on its toes?”

The cat silhouette in front of her had a high arched back and straight limbs, with the very tips of her paws only touching the ground.

It was as if the cat wasn’t standing on the ground.

Rather, it was hanging ……

The height of the hanging allowed the tips of its paws to hang just above the ground.
