Chapter 725 – Plans and Accidents
Chapter 725 – Plans and Accidents
Whitebeard was right behind the gate.
He and the orange cat had made this place their base.
But when Saul walked through the gate, the first thing he saw was not the white-bearded wizard crouching on the ground, but the dense, gnarled and curled tree roots behind the gate.
These tree roots were originally supposed to stay underground, but at this moment they were piled up all over the interior of the academy like the walls of a labyrinth. It was also as if they had been deliberately pruned by the florist into this shape.
The walls made up of these tree roots were taller than Sol.
When Sol flew up, only then could he see the even more shocking large stumps inside through the dense forest-like vast walls of tree roots.
As the orange cat described it, a stump that had been cut off at the waist, or at the roots, lay flat in the center of the academy.
The original buildings had all been obliterated and crushed, or squeezed into the surrounding area.
What made Saul feel strange was that the stump in front of him should have been exposed to the air for several months as well. However, the cross-section of the stump was still as fresh as ever, as if it had just been cut off.
Sol squinted his eyes, and it was as if there were countless runes swimming on the broken cross-section of the stump.
They appeared on the bark from time to time, and at other times, they didn’t enter the interior of the tree trunk.
The magic was evenly transferred to the surrounding tree roots, causing the enclosure made up of tree roots in front of them to slowly grow taller and larger.
“Don’t think about flying over it.” At that moment, Whitebeard, who was crouching on the ground drawing a spell, said, “Both Orange Cat and I rely heavily on the ground for our sorcery, so if you’re in the sky, we have no way to go over and support you.”
Without looking back, he pointed at the wall of tree roots, “And these roots can actually grow to great heights. And even if you could fly higher, it wouldn’t help, after all, our target giant tree stump is on the ground.”
Sol dropped back to the ground, “Thanks for the heads up.”
It was then that he went to observe the spell that Whitebeard had drawn on the ground.
This small piece of clean open space was almost the last clearing inside the academy. And there was also a sorcery spell formation painted on this clearing that stained almost the entire clearing.
Both Saul and the orange cat could only stand against the wall.
Whitebeard was still perfecting the details of the spell formation, making final preparations for the immediate attack.
Saul observed the sorcery spell on the ground for a moment, “Air …… cannon?”
“You’re an adjective I like.” Whitebeard finished drawing the last of the sorcery runes and looked up, “I used to fire the cannon a lot. I just don’t get the chance anymore.”
He stood up and explained the spell to Thor.
“An air cannon, just as you described, gathers the air nearby and hits it like a cannon. The longer we tangle with these tree roots, the more passive we will be. This spell formation can open up a path for us to get closer to the stumps through the air cannon.”
“When we get to the end of the path opened up by the air cannon, we can save a lot of effort by using sorcery to break through.”
Whitebeard didn’t seem to be afraid that Saul would steal his lessons, and just so generously displayed the original sorcery spell formation in front of Saul.
“How much longer do you have?” The orange cat walked around impatiently, “When it’s completely light, these tree roots will be more active.”
“Now.” Whitebeard stood up, “Let’s back up to the gate and remember to make a dash for the gap first thing when we hear the boom.”
Off to the side, the orange cat was already in an impact ready position, while eyeing the two men, “Remember, once you spot anyone suspected of being Dean Baidon, wait until everyone is assembled before you make a move to search them. Otherwise, you’re just getting yourself into trouble!”
Saul, listening to Orange Cat’s tone, seemed to have decided that once Dean Baidon was found, he would be able to subdue the other party.
But would the strength of a dean of a major power be that bad?
As for the matter of whether the other party was alienated or not, Saul could not be sure, after all, in the memory of Sorcerer Yona, the other party had only unleashed the Inverted Tree that sacrificed the multitude in order to save Sorcerer Beth, who had been injured by Shia.
However, regardless of the truth, it was time for him to enter the interior of the academy.
It was thought that Korie, who had stayed outside, had already set up the five auxiliary spell formations.
“Bang–“
There was a sudden explosion, as if someone had broken a large drum in a flash.
The Orange Cat and Whitebeard beside him both rushed out at the first opportunity, while Saul waited for a few seconds before following the two.
The huge air cannon shattered the cluster of roots directly in front of them in a flash, and by the time Saul stepped into it as well, the roots behind him had surprisingly re-closed the entrance.
The three ran inside after the gap created by the air cannon, and the closer they got to the center of the academy, the denser and thicker the roots inside became.
The power of the air cannon was waning, and with the gradual increase in cover, the speed at which the passageway was expanding began to diminish as far as the eye could see. But they were still several hundred meters away from the large stump in the very center.
“Ready!” The orange cat let out a meow and suddenly leapt to the side.
In the next second, several branches with abnormally sharp tips shot out from the tree root walls on both sides, piercing into the place where the orange cat had just been with a swift momentum.
But then, an earth thorn also rose from the ground, pinching the most vulnerable angle of the tree roots and slicing out, directly counter-stealing the several branches that had sneaked up on the orange cat.
A large number of branches crumbled and fell to the ground.
Whitebeard on the other side also began to deal with the sneak attacks from the branches on both sides.
His hair was like a steel needle, and when it came together, it was another sharp blade.
The opponent must have also cast some kind of sorcery, the branches swept by the steel needles would all turn dark yellow and brittle, and eventually fall off the root walls on their own.
While Saul, who was the last to fall, felt a wind whistling behind him, it was obvious that there were also man-thirsty branches attacking him from the tree root walls that were merging together behind him.
Saul didn’t even turn around as densely packed black blades suddenly appeared behind him.
The blades were like rain falling, firing silently, but like an autumn wind sweeping away the leaves, tearing all the tree branches that tried to sneak up on him to pieces.
Only when the sound behind him disappeared did Saul look back.
He found that all those branches sticking out from the tree root walls had been destroyed, but the tree root walls only had a few more small, thin holes in them.
And those small holes quickly disappeared in the rapid replenishment of other tree roots.
“The replenishment is fast, even exceeding the speed of spell casting. What’s energizing these tree roots?”
Without the need for anyone else to answer, Saul immediately remembered the ones that had disappeared in the inner city.
The three of them flew forward all the way while dealing with attacks from above and below, left and right, front and back.
After losing the blank area where the air cannons had advanced, advancing again would require a hard push against the wall-like tree roots.
At this point, Thor switched places with the orange cat, with him taking the lead and unfolding the gap in the road ahead with a sharper black blade.
Although all three were not bad in strength, the number of tree branches and roots around them was too much, and soon the clothes on their bodies were torn.
Despite the difficulties, they were gradually approaching the stump of the inverted tree.
“I see the stump, there aren’t any of these pesky trees up there, King …… Whitebeard, you throw me over there, Black Blade, you eliminate the midair attacks for me.”
This was the plan that the three of them had designated.
Without hesitation, Whitebeard grabbed the front legs of the orange cat, quickly spun twice in the air, and violently threw it.
“Meow !!!!”
The orange cat purred angrily, clearly not happy with the way Whitebeard threw him.
With a smile on his lips, Thor immediately waved his hand for Black Blade to follow.
As planned, once the orange cat reached the stump, he would immediately set up another small air cannon to create a new pathway on the side of the two men.
This way, Saul and Whitebeard would be able to penetrate the thin layer of “wall” and advance a long distance again.
After a few repetitions, they were able to break free from the roots and climb up to the surface of the stump.
However, the plan was not to be.
The orange cat flew out of the two men’s field of vision, but suddenly let out a mournful scream.
“Meowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowow–“
Whitebeard glared, “Could it be that these tree roots will still climb up the stump?”
But the next thing he heard was the orange cat continuing to yell, “There’s a ghost!!!”
