Chapter 723 – Whitebeard and Orange Cat

Chapter 723 – Whitebeard and the Orange Cat
Saul had already flown to where Penny was pointing, but there was no one in sight.

“Hiding.”

Saul landed on the ground.

“You flew over here with so much fanfare, a normal person would hide and observe first, right?” Penny spat in her diary.

Just as the two of them, Saul and Penny, were snickering, a skinny black shadow suddenly rushed towards Saul through a crack in the wall.

“Meow!!!!”

“Meow-“

Saul casually swept the black shadow back into the wall.

The black shadow hit the wall and let out a mournful cat cry.

“Surprisingly, it’s a cat?” Herman said incredulously, “How dare a cat attack you?”

“Hee hee, has it been so radiated by the contamination that it’s delirious?”

“Or ……” Saul stepped forward and stomped on the dirty, filthy cat that had slid off the wall and onto the floor, “Is that what you’re hoping I’ll misunderstand?”

“Ah, pain, pain, pain, wrong, wrong, wrong!”

The kitten opened its mouth, surprisingly spitting out human words.

“Huh? A magical creature with intelligence?” Penny said in amazement.

It rarely encountered demonic creatures with intelligence.

There were small algae, but not many.

So it was still a novelty for Penny to see this talking cat.

It even wanted to keep the cat.

“No.” Who knew that Saul broke its dream, “It’s a wizard.”

“Eh?”

Penny knew there were wizards who could turn into animals, but that was usually a short time change or a blindfold.

But the cat in front of her had already been beaten into this shape by Saul, and it was amazing that it hadn’t changed back to its original form!
It was even more interested.

Saul lowered his head and looked at the orange cat playing dead at his feet, “This is the first time I’ve seen a sorcerer whose whole body has turned into an animal, I really want to take it back and dissect it to have a look.”

“No, no, no, no, no!” The cat on the ground exploded in fear and fur.

At that moment, there were footsteps approaching again, and the second living person who had been hiding nearby finally appeared.

“I’m sorry Your Excellency, we didn’t mean to attack you, it’s mainly because some dangerous people appear here from time to time, and we need to ascertain the identity of the visitor, as well as their purpose.”

Saul raised his eyes and looked over, and saw a man with a full, florid beard step out from a patch of shadows.

Saul’s gaze swept over the other man’s face.

Although this man’s hair and beard were already white, the skin on his face looked like that of a middle-aged man, and there wasn’t much sagging or wrinkles.

His gaze fell back to the other man’s shoulder and saw what looked like a slime monster-like being, scrunched up in a ball right on the other man’s shoulder.

The white-bearded man kept an eye on Saul’s vision, and when he realized he was looking over his shoulder, the muscles in his back tightened.

“He can spot my companion goblin?”

Looking at the vigilance of the man across from him, Saul shifted his gaze away in a seemingly careless manner. He then leaned down and picked up the cat at his feet.

“Attacking is a test, faking an injury is a test, may I ask if your test is over?”

Saul casually threw the cat out, “A second-ranked sorcerer, still disguising a first-ranked magic power fluctuation, is this your third trial?”

The kitten that was thrown out flipped in the air and landed firmly on all four feet.

But then it slowly straightened its upper body and folded its hands in front of its chest, “I’m sorry, this place is just too dangerous, and we’re doing this out of self-preservation.”

The dirty orange cat was cleaned of dust after clapping its hands together, while a red jacket appeared on it.

“But we’ll take this opportunity to get acquainted. You’re strong, and your mental faculties are quite sharp. Among the second-order wizards I’ve seen, you’re also quite powerful. If you don’t mind the little misunderstanding just now, let’s work together.”

Sol smiled faintly, “Cooperate on what?”

The cat’s expression stuttered as he looked back at the white-bearded man.

The white-bearded man picked up, “Since it’s come to this, we won’t hide it anymore. The dean of Baidong Academy has gone crazy, and this matter has already spread in a small area. The second rank wizards that came over are basically here for his method of opening the door.”

“Open door method?” This was the first time Saul had heard of this matter.

The orange cat stared with rolled eyes, “Don’t tell me you’re simply passing through. It’s now being rumored among second-rank wizards that the dean of Baidon Academy went crazy because he tried to open the door, but failed to cause it. Aren’t we entering the inner city, which is closed off by the archaeologists, to get the method their dean used to push open the inner gate?”

Saul raised his eyebrows slightly, the pupils of his eyes shrinking in a look of surprise and trying to restrain his surprise.

“And why would you two want to work with me? If you can’t give a compelling reason, I can only assume this is the fourth try.”

The orange cat didn’t seem to expect Sol to be so difficult to deal with, and couldn’t help but let out a “meow”.

Whitebeard, who was at the side, however, took the initiative to say, “Actually, the reason is very simple, I don’t think you’ve been to the current Baidong Academy yet, right? If you’ve been there, you would know that a huge tree with a diameter of hundreds of meters has appeared there.”

Saul’s first reaction upon hearing this was disbelief.

After all, a giant tree with a diameter of hundreds of meters would definitely be visible to him from this position, but when he looked over towards the Baidong Academy right now, he would only be able to see the Academy’s fence.

That fence wasn’t too high, less than three meters, so how could it possibly cover the huge tree.

The orange cat waved its two paws and hurriedly said, ”That’s not a big tree, it’s a big stump! It was only two meters higher than the ground, and then it was as if it had been cut off by an even bigger axe.”

The white bearded man’s mouth hidden under his dense beard curled slightly, “Yes, that was a broken tree, but what was truly terrifying was actually its roots. Each of those roots has a strength close to that of a full-fledged sorcerer, and even if they can’t kill us, they can still prevent us from entering Baidong Academy. The two of us have already tried a few times and have always been blocked out. Now that we’ve finally met Your Excellency, who is notoriously strong, we naturally want to cooperate with you.”

The orange cat jumped to its feet, “If you still don’t believe me, you can go to the Baidong Academy first to see for yourself. But I have to remind you that once you cross the fence, you will immediately be attacked by tree roots.”

“No need,” Sol said after thinking for a moment, “I don’t think there’s any need for you guys to lie about something like this that can be easily verified as true or false. Then if we cooperate, what do we need to do? And what are your countermeasures for entering the Baidon Academy to find a way to push the door?”

Saul’s words directly silenced the two people on the opposite side of the table.

Seeing this, he asked incredulously, “You guys wouldn’t have any battle plans, would you?”

The orange cat jumped up, “It’s really the sheer number of those tree roots, we’ve tried other ways, but they all failed in the end.”

“That tree stump is most likely a third-order magical creature, if you want to enter the Baidong Academy, you can’t take advantage of it, you can only go through it the hard way. The cat sorcerer and I are a bit short, but with the addition of Your Excellency we should be able to get in.”

Probably afraid that Saul still didn’t believe them, the orange cat took out a black stone from the jacket’s shirt pocket.

The shadow-retaining stone.

“Here is the image we specially recorded in order to review the previous battle, you can check and examine it. Of course, it would be perfect if we could find a better line of attack along the way!”
