Chapter 701. You’re free.
Chapter 701 You’re Free
It was dark and humid.
There were droplets of water hitting the glass window, turning into a tilted line of water.
The line of water grew, accompanied by a “crackling” sound, and then a “clattering” sound.
The sound grew louder and denser.
It’s raining.
Haywood raised his head from the paperwork and stared blankly at the gloomy sky outside the window, and the black raindrops that were streaked under the sky.
The water-absorbing pen hanging in his hand was drenched in ink, and at this moment, due to gravity, it was rapidly coalescing into a cloud of ink drops that were about to fall onto the ginger-colored parchment.
“It’s raining again. So much rain this year.”
The ink finally couldn’t take it anymore and dripped from the tip of the pen.
“Swish!”
A black slender tongue suddenly stuck out, swept away the drop of ink, and shrunk into a pitch-black face with completely invisible features.
“You’re gawking again.”
The dark figure sat down on her butt on the parchment she had just protected, not caring if the parchment would be wrinkled by her.
“More rain is more rain, so what does it have to do with us? That’s something only a high ranking wizard on the Wall of Sighs needs to think about.”
Blocked from writing on the parchment by her sister Heidi, Haywood simply threw the blotter back into the quill.
He leaned back and said helplessly, “Yes, more rain is not something that two of us apprentice wizards can fix.”
It had also been a few years since he came to the Wall of Sighs, yet Haywood still had not broken through that boundary between apprentices and full-fledged wizards.
The only change that had happened to him over the years was that his younger sister, Heidi, had been separated from him and transformed into a black silhouette, mimicking what Lady Yura once looked like.
Though still not exactly in the mold of a normal human being, it was good to know that Heidi had, at least for a brief moment, the freedom to move around on her own.
As long as she returned to her brother Haywood every so often to replenish her depleted mental energy.
The two had accepted the fact that they could not become full-fledged wizards, and had lived peacefully for a long time in this dangerous sea, sheltered by Mentor Gorsa.
But Haywood was always distracted lately.
For some reason, ever since Golza came back from the outside last year, he always felt that his peaceful days were coming to an end.
A month ago, Golza even took a leave of absence from the owner of the Wall of Sighs, Wizard Murphy, and retreated into the lowest level of the Wizard Tower to do experiments, and didn’t even come out to fight in the most recent Black Tide onslaught.
Haywood knew that this time Mentor Golza was about to accomplish what he had been aiming for for years.
This time, no one else knew about the progress of the experiment. Even Haywood, who had been following Golza, was not clear.
But what was clear to him was that Golza would not let anyone else get in the way of him carrying out his experiments.
This time, Golza didn’t let a third person help him throughout.
“Maybe this time, Lady Yura can really be resurrected.” Haywood paused and looked at his sister, who was like a black silhouette beside him, “Heidi, do you want to be resurrected?”
The black silhouette without five features let out a gust of cold laughter, which was enough to scare a few timid humans to death when placed in the world of ordinary people.
“Heh heh heh heh heh, resurrection? I’m fine now, why would I want to be resurrected? If I’m a miserable person for the sake of resurrection, then I’d rather be happy as a spiteful spirit.”
Haywood was stunned, because he didn’t have the ability to resurrect Heidi. Therefore he never asked this question before.
And today, he inexplicably felt it, not realizing that Heidi had this notion.
Even Heidi could see how painful Mrs. Yura, who was constantly conducting resurrection experiments, was suffering, so how could Mentor Golza not see it?
So was it true that Tutor Golza had chosen to revive his wife because he loved her?
“Uhhhhhhhhhh !!!!”
An agonizing, shrill cry came from the ground.
Haywood and Heidi looked at each other, their whole bodies trembling lightly, fear accompanying that scream just now, drilling a little bit into the cracks of their veins.
Both looked down at the same time, pretending, as usual, that they hadn’t heard anything.
However, the scream that would usually last for several minutes surprisingly sounded only once today.
Outside the Wall of Sighs, at the bottom of the Seventh Wizard Tower.
Gortha shook the test tube in his hand, then fetched the long dropper and dropped a drop of the liquid inside onto the forehead of the female body on the lab table.
The colorless, transparent liquid instantly disappeared under the pale skin.
“Uhhhhhhhhhhhh !!!!”
The woman struggled violently, but she couldn’t even move her little thumb as she lay on the voodoo spell.
Gortha turned her head sideways, scrutinizing the woman, not willing to miss a single change in her.
Strangely enough, today the female test subject only screamed once, then fell silent, her whole body staring blankly at the ceiling.
And that change caught Gortha’s attention.
“Has the fusion finally begun?” A small smile pulled at his face, he leaned down and lowered his head, his slender hands gathering the woman’s miserable white cheeks, “Don’t sleep, it’s only a true resurrection when it’s completely fused.” The woman’s eyes trembled and moved, a faint airy sound escaping her dark purple lips.
“Resurrection?”
“Yes. The experiments have gone well so far. You will succeed in resurrection this time.” Golza got up to check behind the woman.
On the white, bare skin of her back, a brown branch grew like a seedling breaking out of the ground.
The branch drilled along the hole purposely left in the lab table and into the square box below.
There was a gelatinous medium in the box. Black and red colors were mixed, and it smelled of melons and fruits.
Upon closer inspection, one would realize that the gelatin was vibrating slightly, in the rhythm of a heartbeat.
With each tremor, nutrients would be transported down the branches into the woman’s body, causing it to emit vitality as if it were a real living body.
Confirming that the medium was in perfect condition and energized, Gortha looked to the woman once more and whispered encouragement.
“Yura, I know you’re in pain right now, but success is close at hand. As soon as the fusion is complete, you will be free.”
“Free?”
The long-forgotten word gave the woman strength, and her eyes snapped open, staring fixedly at Golza.
One second, two seconds …… one minute, two minutes ……
The storm outside the tower could not affect the two in the basement in any way.
Finally!
A familiar spiritual power fluctuation came out from the woman.
Golza immediately stepped forward and pressed one hand on the woman’s brow, closing his eyes to feel the other party’s solidified soul.
“That’s right, that’s right, that’s it. The body born through the combination of the Black Sea Tree Source and the Red Sea Tree Source is extremely inclusive, and there is hardly the slightest backlash against the soul’s entry. Coupled with its …… quite powerful and extremely overbearing adhesive, your soul has completely fused with this sorcerous creation.”
He straightened up, his face a mixture of exclamation and relief.
“In short, congratulations, come alive.”
The woman, or finally resurrected Yura felt the strength that came with her new body.
The feeling of powerlessness she had just felt disappeared when her soul broke through the last obstacle and merged completely with this artificial body.
In its place was a full energy as if she had woken up after a full night’s sleep.
With a little effort, Yura actually sat up.
The branches behind her were stretched, but not broken. The culture medium underneath was still fluttering slightly, like her extracorporeal heart.
Although there was still a slight pain in various parts of her body, it could no longer affect Yuura’s joy.
Once, for the sake of sorcery research, Yuura had easily given up her life.
Later, when she suffered for the sake of resurrection, she realized the preciousness of life.
Yuura’s eyes burned and she felt liquid running down the corners of her eyes.
“Even, even tears?”
Yuura wiped her fingertips across the corners of her eyes, then looked at the clear liquid on them, shedding more tears in a flash.
“I really did come alive.”
Golza clasped his hands to his chest with a smile on his face, “Well, don’t keep crying or the culture fluid will come out of your eyes.”
Yura froze, her movements frozen in place.
“This body isn’t a real human body after all, some special reactions are normal. You can consider yourself a changed race. But you are still Yuura.”
Yura hastily wiped the tears from her face, somehow feeling empty inside.
This had clearly ended well.
She then heard Golza’s voice again.
Gentle, slow, firm.
“Now, you are free to leave.”
She lifted her eyes, which were blank.
“What? Leave what?”
Across the room, the love of her life, the enemy of her death repeated softly.
“Leave my wizard’s tower, after all …… the experiment is over, isn’t it?”
