Chapter 622 Management Committee

Chapter 622 The Management Committee

All eyes turned to the king.

Rodney XVIII said with a dignified demeanor, “Given that we still know too little about information related to magic, investigating this mysterious power and gathering information about them is our first priority.”

He looked around at the crowd, “We should summarize the effects of this power when it is revealed on a large scale to the mundane, and judge our attitude towards magic based on the overall interests of the Kingdom of Aldo, rather than rushing to pander to the Holy See or maintain our relationship with Eton, and jumping to conclusions without knowing enough about things.”

Palace Minister Rupert twirled his own beard and nodded uncontrollably, “Your Majesty has a point.”

The king’s words made his attitude towards Rodney XVIII change drastically.

The rest of the ministers also agreed.

“Let’s wait and see for a while without taking a position in favor or support.”

He looked to the Foreign Minister, “Secretary Valentine, if the Holy See asks us to take a stand, try to deal with it.”

Earl Valentine nodded, “I will do my best, but I don’t know how much pressure the Holy See will put on us.”

Rodney XVIII pondered for a while, “It’s not wrong for us to do some verbal support, but if the Holy See asks us to make substantial help, sending troops, sponsoring supplies, and so on, that won’t work. I think the Holy See will understand our difficulties, we …… still have domestic enemies to deal with after all.”

“Yes, Your Majesty.” Earl Valentine responded.

“In the meantime.” Rodney XVIII looked at the Minister of Intelligence, “Secretary Merlin, it is you who will be in charge of investigating the matter of magic and wizards, and while we still maintain good relations with Eton – who can say about the future – send people there to Gather information, I guess, and the attitude of the Holy See should also be watched, if the Holy See shows that it is bound to extinguish this force at all costs, then we can’t hastily stand against the Holy See on this issue.”

Earl Merlin stood up, “As you command, my liege.”

The royal council came to a conclusion, which was considered the first major decision of the new king in regards to state affairs, and his calmness left a good impression in the minds of the old ministers such as Rupert.

After the crowd had dispersed, the king left Paul and Catherine and invited them to dinner.

With them came Irene, and the king’s two brothers.

“This is sort of our family dinner.”

Rodney XVIII had a relaxed look on his face, eating the food placed in front of him casually with a knife and fork in hand.

“Ah, yes, Paul!”

“Your Majesty?” Paul, who was burying his head in his food, looked up at the king.

Rodney XVIII wiped his mouth with a napkin, “About that so-called [Special Economic Zone] idea you had earlier, I think it’s very good. Since it’s good, then we should put it into practice immediately.”

Paul said approvingly, “You are truly bold, Your Majesty.”

“I’ve carefully considered it, those enterprises we cooperated to start before are mainly concentrated around West Harbor, then we can just set aside that area as a special economic zone, West Harbor is a port city, it’s easy to communicate with the outside world, and it’s very think from Jingyao, so it’s good for us to manage and observe it.”

Paul thought for a while, “That should be a very suitable place.” Rodney XVIII looked at him with a hopeful gaze, “I’m going to set up a …… committee, haha, a new word I learned from you, it’s called the Special Zone Management Committee. I hope that someone from your side can come out as a member of the management committee to provide some …… guidance to the other members.”

Paul replied, “In that case, I’ll go back and consider who would be appropriate.”

The king looked at him, “As a matter of fact …… I already have a candidate in mind, and I hope you can cut me some slack. Of course, I will respect your wishes as well as his own.”

Paul asked curiously, “I wonder which lucky person will receive your favor, Your Majesty.”

Rodney XVIII smiled, “You know this man well, Myron Garnard, your ally brother.”

Paul withdrew his own gaze and stared at the white, shiny dinner plate in front of him for a few seconds of careful thought.

“This …… Majesty, I will convey your wishes to him when I return. Myron would feel very honored, and I have to say, your eyes are accurate, and Myron would be a great help – I mean if he wants to stay.”

Yes, apart from the technicalities of the profession, Myron knew almost everything about the Western Gulf, the administrative system, the organizational structure …… etc etc.

“Oh, sure. I consider you guys friends, and I respect your individual wills.” Rodney XVIII smiled, “I am asking, not ordering, and will not use the king’s power to demand that he fulfill his obligations as a bannerman.”

“Thank you, Your Majesty.”

Paul said this with his mouth, but in his heart he was muttering, is this a reminder to them.

He suddenly thought of something and pleaded with Rodney XVIII, “Your Majesty, I have a request.”

Rodney XVIII smiled and said, “Please say it, my future brother-in-law! What about within my power, I will try to fulfill you.”

Paul said, “I think you know, the Northwest Bay is now gathering a group of scholars, in all aspects, those who study biology, those who study chemistry …… oh, it’s alchemy, and we …… have some very interesting discoveries, so the scholars hope to organize an academic symposium in the Northwest Bay, inviting scholars from various other places to share those new discoveries, discuss them together, verify them together, and even argue about them together to collide more sparks.”

When Paul said this, the eyes of Erin, who was eating silently on the side, lit up.

“And with my own reputation, I really can’t gather so many foreign scholars, which would greatly minimize the value of this academic symposium. But if it’s done in the name of the king, I think back to a strong appeal to a sufficient number of people.”

Rodney XVIII asked, “So you want me to offer my help?”

Paul nodded, “Yes, Your Majesty!”

“An interesting request.” Rodney XVIII smiled, “I’ve always been supportive of organizing scholarly exchanges for that matter, so I promise you, Paul.”

But he immediately asked strangely, “But I have a doubt, as far as I know in your territory for knowledge is strictly guarded, even let Jing Yao also support your patent law, you organize this academic seminar, not afraid of ……”

Paul knew what the king was talking about, “Your Majesty, what we protect is inventions and not discoveries. Specifically, the so-called discovery refers to the distillation of those laws that already exist in nature, whether or not there are people to describe them, the laws of nature existed there from the birth of the world, and will not cease to exist just because people don’t know about them. The so-called inventions, on the other hand, are things created out of thin air by people that did not originally exist.”

Sorry guys, things have been a bit hectic at home the past few days and I’m not up to date.
