Chapter 602: Escape
Chapter 602: Escape
“Honorable Lord Hubbard City Lord! Please forgive me for not being able to obey your orders!”
The muscles on Horace’s face stiffened a little, he didn’t know what expression he should use to face the city’s master.
Still, he forced himself to continue speaking.
“Attacking a group of guests who possess such a level of civilization and have not shown hostility towards us is something that would trouble my conscience.”
“Whoa whoa whoa whoa! It looks like our harbor manager is a noble and compassionate example of nobility, is that why Her Majesty appointed you? Ah yes ……”
Hubbard looked at Horace, “I remember you were against the conquest of the beast slaves in the northern lands.”
Horace’s teeth clenched, he was somewhat offended by the term beast slaves.
“Doesn’t matter.” City Lord Hubbard approached him and gently patted Horace on the shoulder, smiling, “I’ll catch the hornless men myself, but ……”
Hubbard City Lord’s tone brought on a heavy dose of morose coldness, “I will remember every disobedience you’ve done to me, don’t think that I can’t move you just because you’re the administrator of the harbor area appointed by Her Majesty herself.”
The city lord’s threat caused a layer of cold sweat to seep from Horace’s forehead, but without waiting for him to explain anything, City Lord Hubbard flung his sleeves and left Horace’s office.
—
Three large, three-masted sailing ships were pulling away from the docks of Port Vaude, each of them towed by a small paddleboat in front of it, and the oarsmen on board were struggling to swing their oars as the tiny paddleboats slowly, bit by bit, would drag the large ships behind them away from the docks.
The sailors on the big ship were also busy, lowering the canvas so that in a short time they could use the natural winds to drive the huge thing that carried them out into the vast expanse of the sea.
“Captain Glenn! There seems to be something strange on shore!”
A message suddenly came from the lookout overhead.
Glenn felt a twinge of discomfort.
“Captain Gran! Several paddle boats have sailed out of the dock, and judging by their direction they should be charging towards us!”
Glenn made an immediate decision, “Recover our paddle boats immediately! Notify the other two boats to join us and get out of here at full speed.”
Now their boats were in a position where they were able to rely on the wind to navigate.
But the sheep people’s paddleboats were faster than them, and soon caught up with them, some of the paddleboats even ran ahead of them, vaguely forming an encirclement.
Glenn at once brought in the chief gunnery officer whom the army had stationed in the exploring party.
“I think it’s time to get the firearms configured right away, those golems obviously don’t have good intentions towards us.”
The head gunnery officer nodded, “I agree with you.”
The sailors of the OP watched a strange phenomenon, the sides of the large ships of the gang of hornless men suddenly opened some windows, and in a short while, some sort of cylindrical thing stuck out from which dark holes, those with good eyesight were able to make out that it was in fact tubular.
“What are you doing?”
Vito asked jitterily as he looked at the golems that had boarded their ship.
He had signed up as an oarsman to paddle on the tugboat today, and he hadn’t expected to have an accident.
A golem in the lead smiled and stepped forward, then suddenly punched him in the stomach, catching Vito off guard, he covered his stomach and fell to his knees on the boat.
Vito’s companions were shocked.
“Shut up!” The goat-man who was in the lead said, “From now on you will be slaves of Lord Hubbard City Lord! Praise be! Be grateful! Hornless scum like you have the honor of being taken as slaves by the noble Lord of Ewald!”
Slave!
Vito and the others were shocked beyond belief!
These golems actually wanted to plunder them as slaves!
“NO! You have no right to do this! We are Aldo ……”
Vito struggled, trying to argue his case, but just as he braced himself there was a kick!
“Slaves are not allowed to speak without consent!”
Vito and the others were unarmed and unable to resist against the sword-wielding golems, and they were quickly and roughly captured.
The men on the other two tugboats were very fortunate and made it back to the big ship before they were boarded by the golems.
“Oh no!”
Captain Glenn, who had watched Vito and the others being captured, cried out in agony; he had promised the old shipwright Benjamin that he would take good care of his apprentice, and now he had been taken captive.
“Destroy the other oared schooners! Take care not to injure the one carrying our men.” He quickly gave the order.
The guns on the three ships began to search for their respective targets.
“It seems like we’re one step too late! They’ve all run to the big ship.”
Above the docks, City Lord Hubbard said somewhat unhappily.
“Please rest assured, my lord.” His attendant said, “Our warriors won’t let them get away.”
To Vito and the others, the golems on the paddleboats were sitting in very strange motions, as if they were just performing some kind of ritual.
“What are they doing?”
Vito’s mind suddenly recalled something that the Egbert priest of the Big Stream Tribe had said to him, that the goat-horned people had the “power of the gods”.
“Everyone be careful, they might be practicing some kind of evil sorcery!”
Vito warned the team loudly.
The head gunner ordered, “Aim at the ships that are casting witchcraft!”
After a breathless number of minutes, both sides opened fire almost simultaneously.
On the side of the golems, several ships suddenly shot out long jets of flame that came at the Explorers’ sailboats like long snakes flying through the air.
On the other hand, the artillery on the Exploration Team’s side let out a dull roar, followed by a cloud of smoke wrapping around the ship.
The flames ejected by the golems totaled 10 beams, two of which hit a sailing ship each, while the remaining 8 beams fluttered, fortunately hitting the deck, and the flames that flared up were quickly extinguished by the crew.
“What’s all that smoke and fire?”
Hubbard asked a little strangely as he looked out over the sea at the battle, could it be that the other side also possessed the power of the gods.
His attendant added, “My lord, it might be some kind of blindfold from the other side, I can see it, we have already hit their ship, it’s not very effective because it’s still some distance away, wait until it’s close to the other side’s ship’s side, that’s the time to fix them hard.”
However, what the people on the pier did not know, at this time, their paddle sailing boat was already in a miserable state.
“My hand! My hand!”
“Ah…!”
“Somebody help me!”
“I need help!”
There was a chorus of screams and wails from every paddle schooner hit by the artillery.
The distance between the two sides was now very much able to ensure accuracy for the Exploration Team’s artillery, the shells carrying huge kinetic energy ruthlessly pierced through the relatively thin bulkheads of the goat-horn people’s river sailing ships, and then there were wood shavings flying all over the place, and even if they weren’t directly injured by the shells, the wood shavings that flew around ruthlessly caused a wave of kills and injuries.
As for those goat horns who were standing on the deck to perform the magic of God, the gunners decisively used grape bombs, after a storm of metal, the deck was like hell.
Hubbard and the others standing on the dock could not see clearly, in their eyes, their side of the ship suddenly did not move.
“What the hell? These guys.”
Hubbard was a bit annoyed.
“Send me more men and urge those bastards to keep attacking!”
Glenn, on the other hand, ordered to fire to continue the deterrent while leaving the waters as soon as possible.
They were always on the weaker side, and the other side had terrifying sorcery.
As for the captured members of the team, may the Heavenly Father bless them.
However, he would definitely return!
