Chapter 537 Rebellion 5
Chapter 537: Rebellion 5
At this late hour of the night, the knocking on the door seemed so out of place.
Lieutenant Colonel Carter Hawley, the battalion commander of the 8th Infantry Battalion, sleepily opened the door to his room.
He grumbled with a disgruntled look on his face, “O Lord of Light above, what’s happening?”
Standing in the doorway was his guard, who stood up straight and gave a military salute before handing over a note.
“Report sir, the sentry on guard duty has received a note that appears to be a handwritten message from Lord Gleeman.”
“Lord Graiman?”
Hearing that the handwritten letter was from the lord, Carter Holly had a jolt that dispelled a lot of sleep.
He finished the note handed over by the guard and immediately unfolded it to view the information on it.
At first glance, the lieutenant colonel was so alarmed that he grabbed the guard’s hand and asked impatiently:
“Who sent this note over?”
“Uh ……” the guard stammered.
“Speak!” The lieutenant colonel urged his guard in a very stern tone.
“A …… large parrot ……”
An incredulous expression appeared on the guard’s face.
“A large parrot? What are you talking about? This is no time for jokes.” The Lieutenant Colonel seriously criticized the guard in front of him.
“Lt. Colonel, I’m not joking, it’s just a parrot sent here.”
The guard replied with a straight face, “It was Sentry Ochoa of Post 2, who recalled that the parrot fell out of the sky and landed on the fence of the sentry tower, then raised its right paw, which Ochoa soon realized had this note tied to it.”
Well, Lt. Col. Hawley decided to take the guard’s word for it for now.
“You will send someone to wake up all the officers and men at once, but there is no need to assemble them for now, let them stay in their barracks and wait to be summoned.”
“Yes, sir!”
……
Twenty minutes later, in the battalion office of the 8th Infantry Battalion, the battalion commander, Lt. Col. Carter Hawley, and the battalion instructor, Major Parr Cobb, looked at Paul’s warrant together.
Lt. Col. Hawley held the note up to the candlelight and looked at it over and over again, “There can be no mistake, this is indeed Lord Gleeman’s handwriting, so hard to read …… such unique handwriting, I’m very impressed.”
“I also think it is.” Instructor Pal Cobb agreed strongly, both of them recognized the Lord’s handwriting.
“But ……”
He glanced at the green-furred parrot that stood on the table right in front of him.
“The identity and likeness of this [communicator] is also too mind-boggling.”
Lt. Col. Hawley said, “I don’t really think it’s anything, if a pigeon can deliver a message, why can’t a parrot.”
“But that’s utilizing the pigeon’s ability to find its nest, this parrot’s nest is obviously not in our camp, I’ve never even seen it once, so how did it find us here?”
Lt. Col. Hawley waved his hand and said, “In any case, since this warrant was written in Lord Graiman’s own hand, something must have happened in the village of Barbour, yes!”
Lieutenant Colonel Hawley suddenly hammered his palm and said in a sudden realization, “Isn’t the nearest garrison to Babol Village our 8th Infantry Battalion? It’s quite logical that the lord would think of calling for help from the nearest territorial army in a critical situation.”
“You’re right.” Major Cobb agreed with Lieutenant Colonel Hawley’s deduction.
“In that case, no matter what happens, we should immediately rush to the village of Babol to take a look.”
“But ……,” Major Cobb said with some difficulty, “Babol Village is nearly a day’s journey from our place.”
Lieutenant Colonel Hawley stood up and wandered around a few times, then all of a sudden he looked up at Major Cobb and said, “I’ll contact the mayor of this city and ask him to requisition a number of horses for us, and later we’ll ride the whole battalion to the village of Babol.”
“Good, that’s it!”
Major Cobb nodded approvingly. “Right!” Major Cobb suddenly thought of something, “Gotta use the signaling station to report this to Lakewood immediately.”
……
In Lakeheart Town, the militiamen who heard the news of their lord’s assassination were horrified.
Lord Paul Gleeman had actually suffered an assassination? That powerful lord, that lord who eliminated the pirates, that lord who defeated the Kent family, such a powerful figure, just like that he was assassinated?
Burgum on the podium looked at the militia who were in a state of shock, and continued to shout: “Now, in order to stabilize the situation, in order to prevent unrest, we need to immediately impose martial law on Lake Town. Unfortunately, the original garrison of Lakeheart Town has gone out for field training, and now you militia are the only force available. I declare-“
Burgan shouted, “The original training program is canceled, and the militia’s mission at this stage is changed to martial law for Lakeheart Town.”
The militia assembled in front of him at this time numbered about two thousand people, a sizable military force, and had also mastered military skills such as formation, marching, sword handling, and firearms operation.
“Now, follow your respective instructors and go to the armory to receive your weapons, one musket each.”
……
The armory keeper looked at the officer in front of him who asked to go in and get his gun with a difficult look on his face, and behind the officer were the confused militiamen.
“But we haven’t been notified ……”
“What time is it now, and you’re waiting for notice?” The officer bellowed towards him.
“But ……”
“Men, immediately take down this person who is obstructing the military operation!”
From behind the officer, two stocky guards flashed out, and without a second thought, they pushed the armory keeper to the ground.
“You guys can’t be like this! Oooooooh-“
His mouth was gagged.
“Everyone! Come inside with me and get your weapons!”
The officer waved a large hand toward the militia behind him.
……
When Schroeder, the chief of staff who had stayed in Lakewood, learned of the militia’s movement, the first thing that struck him was that something wasn’t right, and he was now at his residence.
He himself, the chief of staff – the top-ranked military chief besides Paul – had stayed in Lakewood without participating in the field exercise.
It was only logical that Bourgain should have come to consult himself first, no matter how much had happened.
Why did the night assembly outside of the training program happen? Why was it necessary to forcefully break into the armory to receive weapons despite the rules?
This is definitely a big problematic action, perhaps …… a rebellion!
“I must go immediately to the militia and expose this to them as a conspiracy!”
Schroeder was so anxious that he said so to his police officer.
“Lord Schroeder, it can’t be done! The entire barracks may have fallen under the control of the rebel organizers by now – if this is indeed a rebellion! Wouldn’t you be shooting yourself in the foot if you went.”
“You’re right!” The guard’s words calmed Schroeder down.
“We must first find a military force we can rely on – a force other than the Lakewood militia.”
“If it’s not a rebellion, that’s the best! But if it is unfortunately a rebellion, then we can fight it with the military force at hand.”
Schroeder made an immediate decision.
“Quickly prepare my horse! I’m going to leave Lakewood before they realize it.”
