Chapter 623.

Chapter 623 – Misplaced
Sol pulled the little girl and quickly went up to the top of the tower.

However, when he arrived at the topmost floor, he realized that it was empty, and there wasn’t even a single chair on the ground.

The ground was dusty and out of place with the gorgeous style of the entire manor.

Not only that, Saul didn’t see anything out of the ordinary.

He released the little girl’s mouth again, “How come there’s nothing unusual as you said?”

The girl looked ahead with wide eyes, “This isn’t the top of the tower.”

Saul was puzzled, but the stairs were cut off and there were no other floors above.

Whether using the Meditation Method or the Exile Pupil, Saul didn’t see any other rooms exist.

He jumped straight to the wall above his head and felt around for cracks in the wall, trying to find the physical form of the mechanism.

But there was still nothing.

“The texture of this wall is quite good, it’s much more comfortable to touch than the floor at the top of the tower.”

This tower was so strangely decorated, to have the ceiling so beautifully arranged.

This made Saul even more convinced that there must be an organ here.

It was a pity that the little girl was not threatened at all, and when Saul pressed her again, she just smiled and said “This is not the top of the tower.”

Saul was a bit confused, and felt as if there was some kind of thought flashing in his mind, but he could never catch the clear node.

Just then Saul heard the sound of someone approaching again.

The new footsteps were not hurried, and there was a bit of cheerful leisure in their voice.

One at a time, approaching the top of the tower.

Once again, Saul hid in a corner with the little girl.

But when the footsteps came to the last step, Saul still didn’t see any silhouettes.

Saul’s brows furrowed a little, but did not make any noise, much less step out from the corner.

The unseen footsteps strolled around the room for a few minutes before slowly leaving.

Saul was just about to reveal himself when he heard a second footstep.

“This footstep belongs to another person.”

But Saul still didn’t see the owner of the second footstep.

It was as if those who came into the room were ghosts, existing in a world of the dead that Saul could not see.

“There is something strange about this footstep.”

The first footsteps were light and fluttering, making it impossible to call out where in the room the owner of the footsteps was hovering.

The second footsteps were much clearer.

But such clarity confused Saul even more.

Saul slowly raised his head and looked at the wall above his head, and an idea that had been hidden in his mind for a long time finally dawned on him.

He stopped being invisible and came out from the corner where he was hiding, only he didn’t undo the camouflage of Zo and the girl, still keeping them hidden.

Saul, alone and on high alert, slowly made his way to the center of the room.

By the end of the day, he didn’t even hide the sound of his footsteps.

And when Saul deliberately stepped on the ground to make a sound.

The footsteps of the second person who had been wandering around the room suddenly stopped.

As if someone had noticed something, they stopped what they were doing, kept quiet, and listened with their ears.

Saul took a second, deliberate step.

“Step!”

The sound of footsteps echoed in the empty room.

“Da da da da da da da ……”

The sound of Saul’s footsteps completely startled the second person, yet the other person’s reaction was unexpected.

The other party actually ran away directly!
It was not at all the reaction that a pursuer should have.

Saul did not chase out.

He kept tilting his head as if he was looking at something very interesting.

Then he pulled backward behind him, yanking the small algae hiding in the corner along with the girl.

All the while, his gaze remained fixed on the wall above his head.

“I can see why the second person’s footsteps sounded a bit strange just now.”

The little girl fluttered her big eyes without saying a word.

Although he didn’t get an answer, Saul looked down at the little girl with great certainty. He said softly, “The footsteps of the second man came from the wall overhead.”

“Now that I think about it, the first person’s footsteps weren’t very clear, but they should have come from the wall overhead as well.”

Saul looked at the little girl and said in one sentence, “The two people who just walked overhead.”

Saul recalled what had obviously been weird about the journey that he had overlooked.

“It wasn’t that they were walking on the wall above their heads.”

“It’s me walking on the roof.”

“So those little iron black tables in the hallway not far apart just now aren’t tables, they’re overhead chandeliers!”

“That’s why the overhead walls feel better to the touch, because that’s where the masonry floor is.”

Saul flew up so that he was pressed against the wall overhead.

“If you look at it from this angle, this room isn’t the top of the tower at all, it’s the bottom floor of the tower.”

Saul landed back on what he perceived to be the ground, “Are you right?”

The little girl, however, seemed to be playing dumb, “What are you talking about? I can’t understand. Anyway, my baby is at the top of the tower.”

“Heh.” Sol pressed one hand on the little girl’s head, “Then we’ll go to the top of the tower, which is what I perceive as the bottom of the tower.”

Saul once again had the little algae bind the girl into a cocoon and pulled her around to head downstairs.

……

Inside the Lady of the Manor’s room a humanoid black figure suddenly appeared, pinned to the wall in one fell swoop by Redbeard after a failed raid on Lucy.

But this was only the beginning.

Before the crowd could study the composition of that black shadow, a second, third, and fourth black shadow shot in from outside the balcony like a bow and arrow!
The crowd, who still hadn’t regained the ability to cast spells, could only rely on the items in the room to return fire or dodge.

At that moment, the head of one of the housekeepers was covered by a black shadow monster that lassoed the head.

Since the housekeeper was considered one of the more crucial clue characters in this manor, Lucy and Red Beard and the others immediately went up to rescue her.

However, after they picked off the black shadow with the candlestick and smashed chair, they realized that the housekeeper’s head had even been mostly corroded.

The remaining small half still had half of it white and bubbling, and the other half was gurgling and bleeding.

Such a person naturally could not survive.

The butler collapsed like a normal corpse.

The corpse that had just collapsed rotted and disintegrated at an incredible speed, then quickly turned into a puddle of rotten flesh in the eyes of everyone.

The crowd was instantly chilled in their hearts.

This black shadow’s attack was too terrifying, right?
The few people who originally wanted to fight with the black shadow immediately conceded and exited the room, closing the door together and dragging a cabinet aside to block the door.

The other housekeeper escaped with them, but there was no look of fear on her face, and she even twisted her head to urge a few people.

“Find the Lady. Or the demon will dissolve us all.”

“Damn.” Red Beard’s face did not look good, “These black shadows are a countdown, if we can’t bring back the lady of the manor, I’m afraid this place will be covered in black shadow monsters!”

Lucy, however, was even more certain of what she had just guessed.

“Or maybe we either need to find a way to retrieve the stolen Lady, or find a way to enter the other dimension where the thief is!”

As soon as her words left her mouth, the door to the blocked room shattered with a crash.

Several black shadows jetted out of the doorway.

Because of their speed, they crackled and stuck to the wall on the opposite side of the corridor.

But before people could feel amused, one by one, they pulled their bodies up from the wall and stared straight at the wizards in the corridor with their black faces devoid of features.

The number of these black shadows was too much!

Just a moment ago there were only one or two humanoid black shadows, now it looked like almost hundreds!

The terrifying sense of oppression immediately caused everyone’s breath to stop.

Suddenly, Red Beard copied the housekeeper standing beside him and ruthlessly slammed into the black shadows that were about to attack again.

The housekeeper just hit the wall and was immediately wrapped by countless black shadows.

Her body wrapped in black shadows then began to rapidly shrink and deform.

A few drops of murky juice flowed down the cracks of the black shadows onto the ground, emitting a disgusting odor.

The moment he threw the housekeeper out, Redbeard twisted his head and ran.

“Run!” Lucy’s face was ugly and she followed suit.

She had a few more questions she wanted to understand with the housekeeper, but she didn’t expect Red Beard to directly sacrifice the housekeeper in order to escape.

But now was not the time to blame him, let’s survive this crisis first!
